Losing Levon to me will be like losing an old personal friend, which was pretty much how I felt about Clarence Clemons. The man is truly a national treasure. A unique talent with so many talents and a voice that just demands to be listened to and listened to closely. I deeply regret having missed opportunities to see him live over the last few years, now more than ever, but what a wonderful legacy of music he has left for all of us. And that will never die. Several months back I got his live at the Ryman dvd and the man still had it...yeah the voice wasn't quite like it was way back when but damn...the man is special.
I don't know...it's funny to me how some performers can come to be such a large part of your life and seem like someone you actually know. Levon is definitely one of those people for me though I don't, of course, know him at all aside from interviews, reading his book and listening to him.
Much peace and prayer goes out to his family and friends.
I'll be paying tribute in the days to come enjoying all the wonderful music he's made and I guess that's probably how he would want it
Nice post....I don't "know" him as well as you or many other fans, this is just a mule kick to the chest. Something hits home when I listen to The Band and I think Levon is a big part of that. Watched a making of their classic self titled album and the footage of them playing feels like watching a family reunion.

I started this thread and havent posted here in a while. I am glad to see that there was a lot of over whelimng support here for him earlier this year when he past. I am still very saddened by the loss of such a great musician and someone that I would consider a friend after meeting him so many times. Such a kind hearted guy. I am blessed to have been able to go to a bunch of rambles at his house. I really miss this guy a lot. Truely a music legend and an upstanding human being.
Is anyone going to the benifit concert in New Jersey? I feel like I have to.

I had a thread in AET that went for a little while then I was the only one posting videos. I should have came here. Just and awesome musician and better guy.
So jealous about the rambles. Pretty incredible that you have met him a few times. I am kicking myself in the ass for never going. I talked about it forever and never went. I'm an idiot.
I'd love to make this but I doubt it's going to happen. I wish they'd put it out on DVD to raise money for the barn.

How music should be played, how music should sound...I've said about a few other bands, but there has never been a more appropriately named group of musicians. They truly are THE Band.

Levon Helm Studios has this initiative to help the studios out. To save it from closing down. Their tag line is "Keep it Going".....how about we do the same. Keep this thread going so we can share in Levon's memory and legacy. If you love Levon, post something, anything, a video, an article, whatever in here. Try and keep this thread on page one for at least the rest of the year. I will try and post some awesome stuff whenever I get the chance.
Yesterday I bought another Band vinyl. "Rock of Ages" cant wait to spin it after I get home tonight.
From Love For Levon the other night. I don't think I can watch one of these videos without getting chills. Really wish I had just pulled the plug and went. An awesome show for an awesome dude.

Awesome, thanks so much for this post. I wanted to go to this so bad, but I couldnt justify the money for a show that didnt have levon even though it was for him.
I've seen most of the acts live before too. Regaurdless it looks like it was a great concert and I missed out on a great time.
