Given to Fly 7" single. Here's why (sorry for storytime, had to get this out though).
I was just a kid back in '98, and didn't really have means to travel to the nearest retailer selling the NEW release, Yield. Best Buy was doing a promo where you buy the album, get a free Given to Fly 7". The nearest Best Buy was 20 mins away (Eau Claire, WI). I couldn't drive yet, so I begged and begged my Dad to pick up the Yield CD on the release day, and asked him to pleeeeease get the free 7", for some reason back then that single meant the world to me!
Dad came home with a yellow Best Buy bag, Yield CD inside, but NO 7" . I thanked him for grabbing the CD, and not wanting to seem ungrateful, neither I nor he made any mention of the 7" single. I figured it was nice enough for him to pick up Yield for me the day it came out... but in my heart I was pretty bummed.
Later that night as I was in my room enjoying my first listens to Yield, my dad knocked on my door and popped in. He said something like "Oh, hey, this came with your album" and nonchalantly gave me the Given to Fly, like it was no big deal or he had forgotten or something. I knew he was hiding it, waiting to bring me down just a bit, then BAM, SURPRISE, good ol' pops came through for ya after all son! I was ecstatic. (To this day, my friends know that one of my signature moves is the LET DOWN PUMP UP )
Anyway my father passed away of cancer a couple years ago, and every year that goes by I find myself trying to cling tighter to the memories, cherishing those little moments with my Dad that once were, as I don't want them to slip away. Remembering the good things about him, the bad, missing him, thinking of him every day of my life. Some of you know that I love collecting PJ vinyl and go pretty nuts over a lot of it, but I truly believe in the end this is all just "stuff", it is temporary, it will not make you any happier. It is the relationships, the kindness, the memories that you get from these "things" that matter most to me.
Sorry to be over-sentimental! I sometimes need to remind myself to take a step back from collecting more "things", and to keep collecting more moments and memories. Looking forward to many more with all of you.

wow, great story, thanks for sharing. I lost my father to cancer as well about 11 years ago and the things i have that remind me of moments with him are some of my most treasured possessions. Those things help keep the memories fresh and I am still surprised how sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday that i was speaking to him. stories such as this one in these threads from other PJ fans are some of my favorite posts so thank you again.
Benaroya Vinyl is the most valuable one that I own
Every other album on vinyl (including the original pressing and the new rereleases)
Any single that was released on 7" on vinyl (mix of domestic & imports. I don't have all versions, my goal was to have everyone available on a 7". I didn't care if it was import or domestic unless it looked cooler. If the tracks were different I duplicated) (Includes volcom singles, and some of eddie's solo singles)
Includes all the Christmas singles. Finally bought let me sleep a few years ago for 70 bones.
Any single that was released on cd (same as above) (includes in hiding promo, S/T single promos as there were no official releases, and I think a promo off backspacer. I had to look to ebay when PJ stopped released cd singles)
Ten/VS/Vitalagy Super Duper Editions. Some bootleg vinyls (including soldier field). Dissident 3 cd set. A few silver pressed bootleg cd's.

Sealed first pressing of No Code and Vitalogy. Just got them. Haven't opened them and had a listen though. My record player died - need to buy a new system and then I will tear off the plastic with glee.
I am also partial to the Hawaii '78 club single - the song is awesome, but also that surfer dude with the fro is super groovy, lol. :ugeek:

Thanks for sharing your story. It reminded me of the time my Dad came home with the Vs. Lp from the record store, so I could hear it before the CD came out. Everything is just stuff, but those special times make you appreciate your friends and family.
Just added 1993 High Times magazine with Pearl jam (Rockers for Pot) to my collection!!! Shit, popcorns burning...
