really like rap. some of my favorite rappers are Kanye, Eazy-E, NWA, Odd Future, Classified, Chiddy Bang, and Blue Scholars.

Above all though, right now I love love love Macklemore. Check him out, next to Kanye, he has the best lyrics in rap right now. Here's some videos of him:

I don't listen to Rap, but the rapper "Heavy D" died today, he was only 44, so that stinks!

Old school, RUN DMC, Tribe Called Quest, Eric B. & Rakim, NWA, & the first Wu-Tang. I don't listen to much new stuff except for Jay-Z's Black Album and occasionally some Roots.

I was a break dancer with fat shoelaces back in the day, before this PJ and alternative music came along and the focus shifted toward our miserable selves, not what street we lived on or how cool we swore we were :D
  • Right on, yeah I love old school rap too. I think Nas is crazy good. And there is new rap that's not bad too, I just downloaded Drake's new album and it's way different from most of the mainstream rap out now. Good stuff!

There's a bunch of rap fans here. Me, I'm into everything Wu, Wyclef, most Anticon artists, Run DMC, some Jay-Z, A Tribe called Quest, NWA and Outkast. There's some good local artists here too, amid the glut of crap.

  • I like Outkast. Have their entire discography. Very little else in my collection in the way of rap.

Don't listen to it much but when I do, it's usually them. I recall an interview from way back in the day in which Stone said something like, "Outkast just put out a great record." He was referring to ATLiens which was released in 1996.

I don't expand much on the genre. I stick to what I was introduced to by my brother:

    Tupac
    Biggie
    N.W.A.
    Dre
    Ice Cube
    Older Snoop Dogg
    Westside Connection
    Jay-Z
    Bone Thugs N' Harmony

    you get the jist.

Yeah, from what I've read Stone is quite partial to rap & hip-hop.

  • I went through a phase where I really liked rap some 8 years ago or so, both US rap and French (I live in France and the rap scene used to be just wild over here in those days). Now the rap I still like is the old school stuff, I really don't like any of the more recent hip hop/rap stuff: I don't find much of a message in what they say and the sexist attitude just bores me to tears.

here's a couple of links to some cool French rap bands, IAM and NTM

When I was visiting Seattle in the Summer I met a kid who was really really into Macklemore. He said "this is what we relate to", and he had a look in his eye like people used to get talking about Eddie Vedder in the early days. He was urging me to check him out - but then I couldn't remember the name until I saw your post. I looked at those vids, and yeah, I can see it. He is saying something. He's good.......

Run D.M.C. - Saw them on a bill with Mighty Mighty Bosstones at Univ of Pennsylvania about 10 or 12 years ago. AMAZING performance. Also like M.I.A. Have seen her four times...Lolla , Coachella twice, and Armory on Lancaster Ave in Philly. Met her before Philly performance. As classy off stage as she was on it. She is my favorite. Love Arular and Kala albums.

I barely listen to any rap at all. However, the Canadian rapper/singer/songwriter K-OS is quite awesome. The dude is ridiculously talented:

"I try my best to chug, stomp, weep, whisper, moan, wheeze, scat, blurt, rage, whine, and seduce. With my voice I can sound like a girl, the boogieman, a Theremin, a cherry bomb, a clown, a doctor, a murderer. I can be tribal. Ironic. Or disturbed. My voice is really my instrument."
