If you are so shallow as to let radio "kill" a band for you, I pity you.

Really. I mean, radio stations don't play every single Led Zep song, do they? (well sometimes, but only as a special A to Z thing)

I'd add that the closest thing to Led Zeppelin IV since the 70's, IMO, was Soundgarden's Superunknown album. Closest in a sense of attitude, flow, greatness, and in your face rocking without being ponderous or excessive.

I've heard a lot of people compare Soundgarden to Zep. Look, I like Soundgarden, and I'm not trying to diss them. But they never could have pulled off anything like a Battle of Evermore, Going to California, Since I've Been Loving You, Side 2 of LZIII. Soundgarden was (is, I guess) a hard rock band, and were very good at what they did. But what separates the great Zep from the pack is their versatility. Nobody did the hard stuff better, and they did amazing slower stuff too. The whole fucking package.

This is also the reason that Pearl Jam is better than Soundgarden, btw, IMO.

    That seems pretty shallow too.

Wow! Sorry for posting my opinion on something. What I was saying is that a combination of my local classic rock station and my own overplaying of that album years ago has led me to not enjoy it. Yes, my local station does happen to play a lot of ''IV'', as well as ''I'', ''II'', ''Houses of the Holy'', and ''Physical Graffiti''. Because of this and my own personal overplaying when I was younger I very rarely play it on my iPod. I never said ''IV'' or Zep was bad, its the total opposite...a great album by a great band. Thankfully radio hasn't touched ''III'', and that one is my favorite Zep album and the one I go to for my fix.

Ah man, you don't meet too many people in the world who truly appreciate Superunknown!! For me it is the only album that came out of the scene that really transcended "grunge". It is an artistic masterpiece, pure and simple. One of the greatest of all time but, of course, one of the most under-appareciated of all time.
