Happy 40 years. One of the greatest rock albums ever made by any band.

Love the drums on "When the Levee Breaks".

I'm sure there is a lot of love for this album around here.

Agreed. That one is playing as I was reading this and writing it now. Never knew what he was doing on that song until I read the "Hammer of the Gods" book. Even the drum beat is great on that song.

THOSE DRUMS!!! Damn you Bonzo, still trying to get this song on drums after eight years of listening to this. Truly the best rock drummer of all-time.

What a fucking monumental album!!!! I could make a pretty good argument for any of their albums being their best, but no other album is the perfect encapsulation of all the band's styles, the different influences of the members, and Jimmy Page's vision.

Even though it's my third favorite Zep album (behind II and Houses Of The Holy) and I love the shit out of it. My favorite song is "Achilles Last Stand", unfortunately the rest of "Presence" I don't care for at all.

  • Just threw it on. A masterpiece in every way possible.

One oddity about the album that I've noticed: while Stairway To Heaven is a monumental end to side 1 of the vinyl and Misty Mountain Hop is a fun start to side 2, the CD kinda sounds goofy how you go from the ending of Stairway (imagery: Lord of the Rings-style battle) to Misty Mountain Hop (imagery: a bunch of hippies dancing around) within a moment's time.

This might be the first rock album I ever listened to in its entirety as a kid. My uncle was a big Zep fan and played their records constantly. DC said it - I realized at that moment I was a rock fan. I was like 8 years old and had been exposed mostly to radio. My mom and dad played some good stuff but I usually split doing kid stuff. I remember wanting to hear this album in its entirety - in my uncle's room with the black light posters and strobe lights and lava lamp and bean bag. No weed yet though. Good times.

If you are so shallow as to let radio "kill" a band for you, I pity you.
