  • Anyone remember to tape the news last night? There was nothing on CHRO, but CTV had about a 30 second clip of "Animal", and the anchorwoman talking about how they're "godfathers of grunge", surviving the Pacific NW scene, blah blah.
  • just got in the door from going to montreal and ottawa and all i can say is...

  • I think I made the right choice when deciding which show in Canada to go to. Drove up from Boston on Friday, got to the show just in time to see the preset, get blown out of the arena by Sleater-Kinney (that's not a compliment), and get rocked by Pearl Jam for close to 3 hours (you'll note that the download of the show made for 3 CD's of enjoyment). I was sitting in section 115 which provided an adequate location for the show.

All shows I've seen of the band have been Boston shows 98, both 2000's, all 2003's, both 2004 VFC shows, so I am used to a place that really gets into the band and enjoys the shows. I've read in some of these fanviews that the crowd in Ottawa sucked...I think that's an unfair and innacurate characterization of the 13000+ people who got to witness one of the best shows of this tour. What is your criteria for such a judgement?? I was at the show and many times looked around to see people, most people were really into it and having fun...I listened to the bootleg and I can hear tons of crowd participation...yeah, you'll get a few people sitting down at shows, but that happens everywhere...from what I saw, people were having a blast...just because a crowd isn't the loudest doesn't make it a shitty audience. Lastly, I don't really care if I've got someone next to me sitting down or whatever, not everybody has to rock out like myself...nobody is gonna bring me down at the show.

Anyway, the energy from the band at this show is like none other that I've witnessed...I'd only been to 8 shows before this, but I'm telling you, they are bouncing around that stage like it's 1992, especially Jeff...it was great to see. The energy at shows begins with the band and they really lifted this concert to superior levels. It's a great time to be a fan of this band.

Highlights for me: Wash as an opener (never even considered it when trying to guess the opener), In Hiding, Stone singing (absolutely hilarious, the band was loving it and I think Stone really nailed it), Bee Girl was great, Harvest Moon was pretty damn good. Black and Crazy Mary went on forever, and Ed had some great improvs (maybe even tags from other songs) on Black, Not For You, and even some added lyrics during the Rearviewmirror breakdown. All in all a great set, and it was pretty random from my point of view...no Save You, DTE, Porch, which to me are all very predictable songs at a show these days. I feel they really mixed it up, oh, and did I mention the show was almost 3 hours long?? The band brought it and brought it big...made my trip well worth it. I hope they never lose whatever they had for this canadian tour, I hope they bring it to Boston!!
Hope everyone had fun...Ottawa, don't take the naysayers personally, the crowd was just fine!!

  • Yeah I was in section 115 as well and our section was rocking out. I did notice some sections up high sitting down but from where we were if you weren't rocking out there was something wrong with you.

  • some other tidbits...

In my opinion, the suggestion that the Ottawa crowd sucked is not accurate.
I've been to other PJ shows and this one was fine. There were a lot of first timers at this show. BTW, all of the first timers I have spoken with are in awe.
I don't believe that the crowd drowning out Ed on Betterman is the only indication of much they're into it.

Then again, I was in 10C seats so my perspective is a little distorted.

I posted several messages before the tour telling fans to stay downtown. Ottawa is decent place, but the location of that arena is absolutely brutal. The Market is a fun place to hang out at night. Next time, stay downtown.

  • I got back form Montreal & Ottwaw shows last night but was too damn tired from 9 hours on the road to post.
    What a great fucking show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The crowd by me (Section C 12th row on Mike's side) was pretty damn awesome.
I consider myself pretty damn luck cause This was only my 6th show and already I have seen 2 3hour show (Ottawa & MSG1) & Stone singing twice (Ottawa & Mankind@Jones Beach 2000).
I was a bit dissappointed with no Daughter tag, I was hoping to maybe here "It's OK" But it was great none the less.
When I saw Jeff come out with Ed for the first encore I knew Bee Girl was coming. That kicked ass.
This was my cousin's second show (Montreal on thursday was his 1st) and he is pissed he didn't get philly tix now!!

Unfortunately I got to O'Conner's late (Traffic sucked ass) and didn't get to meet most of you. I did run into Schlitz & her boyfriend. Hope you guys have a great show in Toronto & enjoy the falls :D
I was hoping to say hi to more pople from here but oh well. There's always Philly :)

Great show, Great weekend, Great band.
Thanks boys for never dissappointing & thanx 10c for everything.
