wow did someone seriously list the majors on here? wow.
Why not? There is music to be liked on bigger name labels.
i agree, and im pop musics biggest supporter. im a huge fan of kelly clarkson and justin timberlake and timbaland and the neptunes and r kelly, beyonce etc...
but its like someone asking "whats your favorite tv network" and responding "abc and nbc", when we have mad men, breaking bad, arrested development, the wire, and the sopranos all on other networks.. or someone asking who your favorite book publisher is and someone saying "random house" when their are so many small publishers who put out risky, edgy and amazing books. of course their are great shows on nbc and abc and random house puts out great books, but i dont know, seems a little hollow to me.
I agree with you, but I think listing major labels is valid if they are the names associated with a lot of work that is put out by some of your favorite artists. For example: Epic w/ Pearl Jam.
Yes, they now have their own independent label in Monkeywrench, but damned near every last one of their songs that we all hold dear to us was put out w/ association of Epic Records.
The philosophies of smaller and independent labels are much more attractive and respectable... but, I'd be neglecting some of my favorite material by not giving credit to the label that put it out there.
In my eyes though in the end, like always with music and art, it just comes down to the listener (viewer, reader, etc).
7/2/06 - Denver, CO
6/12/08 - Tampa, FL
8/23/09 - Chicago, IL
9/28/09 - Salt Lake City, UT (11 years too long!!!)
9/03/11 - East Troy, WI - PJ20 - Night 1

They carry music by a bunch of my favorite artists. Ryan Adams, Ryan Bingham, Johnny Cash, Elvis Costello, Van Morrison, Morrissey, Willie Nelson, etc. They're kind of all over the place now, but they started out as a label for Americana style music.
