Favorite record label...

The label is usually one of the first things I look at when checking out a band. A lot of the times I get into a band by searching through a record labels catalog... There are a lot of really good labels out there that truly care about the music and product they are putting out.. My current favorite would have to be, Temporary Residence Limited, with bands like, Young Widows, Dreamers of The Ghetto, Pinback/Rob Crow and Coliseum, they have a lot to offer.....Do you have a current or long time favorite?...Do you even notice or care what label a band or album is released on?

I do it backwards, if I see a band is on a certain label that I can't stand (for instance Victory Records), then I don't bother checking them out.

First one that came to mind is the now-defunct I.R.S. records. They were always my go-to label in the 80's.

Rhino and Anti- are up there too.

Subpop, Matador, Silver Arrow, ATO, Monkeywrench, Stax, Dischord, Epic...

For metal, I think Relapse and Roadrunner are most dominant in my collection.

Elektra, Warner Bros, Columbia, Atlantic, holy cow... a lot of record labels are good.

these are probably the ain labels that distribute a lot of what I listen to and a lot of artists I like. Subpop is great though. They have a lot of great bands on their label, and they sell awesome merch. I love that all their band shirts are on American Apparel shirts. THose t-shirts are amazingly comfortable and they always fit me so damn well.

I remember when PJ did their self-titled on J Records, and I looked up their roster of artists at the time. Man, PJ really stood out like a sore thumb.

Yeah, that was a strange choice... I really like Sub Pop also, the last Sub Pop album I bought was , J Mascis, Several Shades of Why, the packaging is top notch and the vinyl sounds and looks (translucent purple) awesome.

That's a great album. I recently bought a shirt from them and they sent some awesome stickers along with it.

yep, cause comparing sub pop, to a major label makes alot of sense, even given the company. after all, sub pop puts out the same type of stuff as the majors. britney, gaga, bieber, beyonce, kelly clarkson. sub pop puts out music by those artists and by bands who sound like them. yep, agree totally.

    wow,
