In Vancouver. Wow!
One of the top shows I have ever witnessed for too many reasons to list.
Will say that Grohl's personality was a variable that cannot be understated for contributing to the overall experience- that guy is freakin' hilarious... a really cool guy. With all respect to our PJ heroes, Grohl might be the epitome of a rock star.
Their new songs belong with their old songs- Wasting Light is an underrated album worthy of much more praise than it has received to date.
Can anyone else echo these same sentiments?

I posted this after the IZOD show in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=148038&hilit=foo+fighters
OMIGOD was that amazing or what?!?!?!?!?! I wasn't supposed to be at tonight's IZOD show but a friend had an extra ticket and it didn't take too much convincing. Helped that I had a ride there and back to the city which was my big hang-up.
So many highlights... Krist Novoselic playing accordion on These Days, the rising platform across from the stage, Dave talking smack to the people sitting down, This Is A Call, Everlong (my all-time favourite), crazy fan who managed to get on stage and bounced around for a bit before diving back into the pit after a guard tries to chase after him, Dave talking about how it's the first time he's seen people tailgating at their shows and how they've finally made it (or something like that). AND, the best part was NOBODY in my row shuffled back and forth to get beer or pee, so I could watch the entire show uninterrupted. What a beautiful thing.
They played for close to 3 hours. Whole reason I originally didn't want to go tonight was because I really didn't think I needed to see them 3x but after tonight, I'm so happy I get to see them two more times at MSG and Newark!!
I've seen him drum twice. Once with QOTSA in a small venue in '02 and with them Crooked Vultures. He's one badass drummer and coolest dude out there today.
I'll be seeing them for about the 5th time in a few weeks, can't wait

Very cool. When in Detroit, he went to a friends guitar shop, Detroit Gutar and purchased a Taylor guitar. Walked in out of the blue, dropped some cash into the Detroit economy and moved on. Love this guy!
I saw them open for Bob Dylan a few years ago. Dave is certainly a piece of work.
He then paused- you could see him thinking- and he blurted, "You know what? I'm glad you never saw us before. We used to suck!" And then, "But we're tearing ass now!"
The humility of the band- willing to poke fun at themselves was refreshing. I really liked these guys and regretted not making the effort to see them earlier.
I don't live in Vancouver. I have to drive 4 hours to get there... and 4 to get back on a work night! Getting home at 4 in the morning so I could teach this morning was rough... but sooo worth it!
Consider the following:
I took my 14 year old son. The Cage the Elephant (they're good by the way) sound guy gave us the setlist. Later in the night, during the encore, Dave acknowledged Cage- they were right behind us on the floor. My kid got the guys to sign the setlist. Then, unsolicited, the Foo sound guy gave my kid the setlist for the Foos. Just as we were leaving- again, unsolicited- the Foos equip guy gave my kid one of Dave's picks.
How cool was this?
Haha, that must be his thing. He used that at the IZOD show too, but instead of saying "we used to suck" he said "We've been practicing 16 years for this" or something like that. He's a lot of personality. I love the part in Back and Forth where Taylor joins the band and Nate's like, oh no, now there are TWO of you?
Oh, if anyone hasn't seen Back and Forth you MUST see it. One of the best films I've ever seen in my entire life.
You reminded me that Talor H needs some props as well- an excellent drummer... with stage presence! Again... absolutely thrilled from seeing these guys.
Yep! Have not seen them this tour cause they have not come here. Hope they do. Seen them 3 times over the years, and fantastic show. Dave is alot like Ed, tells funny stories, rocks out, and just is a bad ass on stage. Love it. Foo chemistry musically is great. they are awesome live. Really loved their "back and forth documentary too.
EV Solo: 7/11/11 11/12/12 11/13/12
Make every effort. While I listened to their music with regularity, I snoozed on these guys- passing on their shows to attend others. I will not miss them again when they are anywhere near my vicinity!
i did get the new album and i think i need to see the foos again.. new album is awesome!
Definitely go see them!! I stopped following them after One by One, not sure why. I tried to get back into them a few years ago, went to a show at MSG and left totally disappointed (I KNOW!!!!). The new album and Back and Forth really put them back on top for me, and seeing them at IZOD in East Rutherford was just amazing. Definitely in the top 5 concert experiences for me including Pearl Jam shows which says a lot.
The Foos were awesome and Grohl... what else should be said- he's a genuine, talented, fantastic rock star. Almost a rock role model. Just flat-out impressed.
Between PJ, DMB, the Foos, AIC, Soundgarden, Rush, KISS, Blue Oyster Cult, Robert Plant, Ozzy, and others... this past year has been freaking phenomenal. My big folder of tickets is now empty. My current tour is over- although I have a feeling the Peppers will be on the horizon as well as a sneaking suspicion that PJ will be performing in Seattle (nothing confirmed... just my feeling!).
Re: Dave being the epitome of (today's) rock star - yes he sure is; probably the coolest person on the planet right now (OK that might be a stretch but still).

I haven't been able to catch them yet on this tour, but I've seen some webcasts of their shows and they are on fire right now!
I caught 2 of their secret shows here in LA back in February, where they were playing the new album in its entirety before it came out. Seeing them play the new album front to back 10 feet in front of me easily solidified Wasting Light as my favorite album of the year. It wasn't out until April and I just counted down the days until it came out. It was the absolute best way to hear an album for the first time and there were a lot of cool experiences between the two shows. At the Dragonfly, I had the opportunity to meet Pat, Taylor, and Chris before they show as they mingled in the venue. After the show, I was lucky to get the setlist from that show. At the Troubadour, I saw them play 32 songs (they're longest show ever!) and as great as the 1st show was, this one just blew the first one out of the water, which is not an easy task considering how great Foo shows are. Luckily, I caught one of Taylor's sticks to have a memento from this show as well.
When they announced their arena tour, I was apprehensive about going because I didn't think it would compare to the secret shows. It kept gnawing at me though because I had seen them in arenas before and know they never disappoint so I caught a ticket last minute, literally a couple hours before they played the Forum that night. They rocked the arena just as hard as they rocked the small clubs and I was so glad that I went. It was awesome to see their production on the big stage. Oh, and it was awesome to see Dave back behind the kit as well (I also saw him with Them Crooked Vultures). He played drums with Cage the Elephant since their drummer's appendix burst. Grohl is an absolute rock star. An energetic frontman and an absolute beast on the drums.
If anybody still hasn't had the opportunity to see them live, don't miss out next time. You will not be disappointed.
Here are some photos from the 2 secret shows: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 082bcf274f
This was my 4th Foo Fighters show. The first in 11 years. The 2nd time I'd seen them headlining their own show. The Edgefest '98 show and opening for the peppers in '00 don't stick in my mind nearly as much as when I saw them the first time. That would of been a small venue called the UBC student rec centre in '97. That show was pretty epic (so I don't agree with Dave joking that they used to be bad.. lol). What this years vancouver show demonstrated to me, was how much they've grown as a band since I'd seen those shows earlier in their career.
The other thing I keep wondering is aabout the 11pm noise curfew in Vancouver. Pearl Jam played 'til 11:30 last month, and the foos until 11:40. I've been seeing shows in vancouver for 20 years, and I'd never seen bands break it by more then 10 or 15 minutes. A curfew is so antirock.. lol. I guess bands who play long sets are willing to pay the fine and I appreciate it
