  • Thought it was pretty funny the little miscue at the beginning and glad he pulled it off later
speaking as a child who shouldve have been a teen in the 90's
  • Sweet set, voice perfect, but too short- all performers got 30 minutes and then show ended early! City gave permission to go till 1 AM!

I wonder if we lost a song to the miscue? Made it through one verse, then just crashed to a halt on the chorus... Ah well, Ed's set was solid, Without You always slays me... but when the chick from Arcade Fire walked out for a duet, thought we'd get Golden State. Sigh. Tomorrow please?!?!?! Other than the miscue, (which was hilarious as usual, self-deprecating) sweet, sweet set.

Santana owned the show though the moment he walked out on stage, best set of the night, and he was right after sunset, 4th act! (Devendra, Norah, Beck, Santana, EDDIE?!?!, Mumford, Dave, Arcade)

Mumford brought it and worked it and f'n delivered, and I want to give the top nod to them, but hey, it's Santana. He only had to walk on stage to win, and he did more than that -- jazz Greensleeves?!?!?! But Mumford was quite the force to be reckoned with - very powerful!

Was thrilled to see Tim Reynolds with Dave, if Santana wasn't there, best guitarist of the night! Beck was sweet too.

Ed got every bit as much reaction as anyone, Santana prolly had the most, Mumford, Dave, Beck all solid reception. Was definitely NOT an overwhelmingly Dave audience, phew, nearly every band had a good contingent present -- good vibe all night (cept...)

I won't say Arcade Fire flopped, but... not their element. They apologized for playing too loud - weird vibe. Crowd was not into them as the headliner -- sitting, scattered applause. Very strange reaction, but I'm glad I got to catch 'em. I wonder if they'll change up the order tomorrow? Mumford or Santana could have easily closed the place down with a bang.

Fallon was a no-show. Neil sang with Beck, Mumford and Arcade -- I got there mid-Norah so no clue what happened first 40 mins. Overall kick-ass time!

Yes, There was an option to add the poster for $50 when you bought tickets through ticketmaster. The artist is Shepard Fairey. It will include all performing artists.

I watched it live via Facebook. I love being able to do that. Wish more PJ events would be streamed that way. Definitely makes catching live performances doable for those of us who cannot be there in person.

Ed was great as usual. Very generous with his invites of other artists into his set. I would expect nothing less of him. Voice was as smooth as butter.
It's nice to be nice to the nice.

"Porch" gave me chills, I've seen him play it solo twice live but that version he played last night was incredible...He pulled off "Don't Cry No Tears" after fuckin' up at the beginning, dedication for Without You made me tear up a little bit that girl looked so happy. :D

anyone know why it was just ed this year and not pearl jam?
  • This event is about children and giving...."Sweet" is a great word to describe Ed's performance!

God, how does that man get better looking with age? Loved his hat!

Santana is always about "winning it". He lacks the giving and generous qualities more of the other artists shared.

It was a short performance but very sweet! :)

He sounded great and looked like he was in good spirits too.

It's a wonderful event. I thought it was very touching when the mothers gave Mrs. Young the roses. And, I think it's beautiful the way these children have been given such a positive and loving environment to go to school in.

Ed's set was so appropriate and beautiful..apart form the fbomb  His voice was remarkable, the hat just did it for me...and I'm not usually an 'Ed is gorgeous' kinda gal, and the version of Porch was the best acoustic yet...and I loved the solo tour versions. Messing up is Ed's thing but as he took it in his stride, he also looked a little shaken because it was Neil's song. (just my interpretation). Overall..way too short, great setlist, brilliant voice, gracious and giving to the children and fellow artists...and did I mention the hat???

One wish would have been for Nora to sing with him!

Yeah she kinda flubbed accompanying Ed didn't she? Oh well, Ed was gracious of course.

  • I thought both duets were pretty bad. Ed was great, but the Arcade Fire chick was not great and I thought Beck's attempt was terrible. He sounded bad, sung wrong melodies and generally looked and sounded like he heard the song for the first time 5 minutes before he hit the stage with Ed. Norah would of been so much better than the AF gal.

Beck and EV did Sleepless Nights way back in '02, but yeah, Glen Hansard is much better on it. I still thought Beck was way better than Regine from Arcade Fire. I'd give Beck a B- and Regine a D. Ed was pretty much perfect, including the initial flub and F-bomb. :D

I think because Matt Cameron is on tour with Soundgarden later this week. I'd asked this awhile back and that reason made sense to me.

I can understand this.. but it does bode well to know how Regine sings.

That said... I thought it was very, very well! And SO very stoked to see a part of Pearl Jam and a part of Arcade Fire together! :)

GAAAAA I keep seeing "Regine did not sound good..."

I'm tellin' ya folks... it's how she sings. She's never going to win an award based on her singing voice.. it's her style that sets her apart.

Once again, REALLY liked the duet.

The girl has terrific stage presence and fits the Arcade Fire sound pretty well, but no, she's not much of a singer and it's difficult to watch her butchering a song like this with Eddie.

So a week later, and watching those vids, and letting it all just soak up and sink in -- I'm coming around. I think Eddie was actually pretty stellar.

I think my initial impressions, a bit of a let down, was a classic case of overexposure -- having seen him and PJ a few times this year. And then seeing some artists for the first time and being pretty overwhelmed by them (Beck, Mumford, Santana, Dave & Tim). And getting only 30 mins of Eddie....

Listening to Saturday again, man, that was a good, good, good set! The No Tears song is growing on me, and the Beatles cover was a great crowd pleaser. He really crafted a pretty awesome set both days for the time and place (still leaning toward Saturday as the stronger set). Three off the Uke album seems overkill, but they were two of my favs, Rise and Just Breathe fit in perfectly -- and it was an awesome Porch.

A week later, with Mumford's set still giving me shivers, Grohl's Everlong, Mathew's Watchtower, what I'm really humming in my head is Beck's Sea Change tunes -- and Eddie's sets.

I agree. Felt kind of weird to say after the show both days that Eddie wasn't the highlight, but I think it's just impossible for him to get any real momentum going in 30 minutes, when I was used to his 2 hour solo sets of just a few months ago. The marathon PJ/EV sets are addicting!

I think I'm still standing by my general overall highlights - best sets of both days were Beck (seeing those Sea Change songs live was a treat to say the least) and the Neil duets were the standout songs:

-Ed's "Don't Cry No Tears" with him from Sunday - http://youtu.be/_XqS3hVfbLY?hd=1

-Beck's "Pocahontas" feat Neil from Sunday - http://youtu.be/RltdHuMl8_k?hd=1

And perhaps the song of the weekend was the Arcade Fire/Neil duet of "Helpless" - http://youtu.be/89vZVMl2gJ0?hd=1
