Since I heard Binaural several times a day before my first show, it was almost ... no surprise ... I didn't know very much about the setlist-philosophy of this band before ... ... I can remember that Ed's scream at the beginning of the song was a little disappointing for me ... but the whole show was very overwhelming for me ... see, I'm not a guy who was or is very much into sports or dancing but this show got me rocking for 2 hours constantly

I thought the world...Turns out the world thought me
**sighs** if I only had a time machine I would go back to The Gorge... PJ and Blind Melon on the same bill **sighs**
I remember then thinking how much it sucked to be 15 years old and sitting at home in Florida :(
It was the ONE and only and LAST time I ever drank at a PJ show....I remember being with my best friend at the time and sitting in the parking lot polishing off a 5th of vodka and lemonade in 100 degrees(cause thats what you did at concerts when you were 23, right? . I had been a fan for a while already, but only a "studio" guy cause it is all I had known.
We made our way down to our seats(right after Blind Melon ...sorry...:( ) They came out and EXPLODED into GO and I fully recall almost being mesmorized into total sobriety that second and was in a trance the rest of the time watching these 5 guys absolutely COMMAND your full attention! As I said, I was a fan beofre, but this show is what set me off. I have been an AVID collector of EVERYTHING and ANYTHING PJ since that time. I still get chills watching it and try to do it every few months so as to remind me why I do what I do......:D
My friend was going to see Eddie last night. Since he was in Vegas, I gave him 5 Grand to gamble with. I told him I wanted it all to go on Black. Bastard! PhillyCrownOfThorns-11-2-12
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
I remember thinking 'If I die tomorrow, I don't care'
that was my second pj gig
First one was Athens 2006, and it kicked off with an exploding version of Go. Which was amazing because it was their first time in Athens, and it was the first live pj song for loads of people. Boy there was a lot of jumping )

Because of the expected thunderstorm got a heads up from a police friend working the show saying that PJ was going to open at 7:30 on the nose. Me and a couple of friends hit the beer line at 7:15 loaded up ( 4 beers each ) and headed up close to the stage, Mike's side just out of the mosh pit. Didn't want to spill the beers! Spectacular Evening.
So, What you Giving ?........ (Thanks Speedy, Alesek, & Arq+friends)
What You Giving
I suggest you step out on your Porch.
Run away my son. See it all. Oh, See the World!
Sometimes...Montreal 98. I believe the band ripped into Corduroy right afterwards. GREAT start to my first show!

Good point, but I started the thread to see what openers people seem to get the most excited about. It seems like the band has roughly ten songs they open with on a consistent basis, I just was interested to see which one sparks the "magic in the air" as Ed likes to say...
Yeah I agree. After reading through them all though, I think I'm the only one who had Present Tense as the first song they heard. (Just allow me to feel special) hahaha.
So what was the first PJ song you ever heard live?
Sometimes; September 29th, 1996. Randalls Island, New York.
Randalls Island New York 9/29/96 - Oakland Coliseum Oakland California 11/15/97 - MSG New York New York 09/10/98 - Key Arena Seattle Washington 11/05/00, 11/06/00 - PNC Bank Arts Center Holmdel New Jersey 7/14/03 - Tweeter Center Camden New Jersey 5/28/06, MSG New York New York 06/25/08, Spectrum Arena Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 10/27/09
I couldn't find this thread in a search, so I thought I'd start it here.
You drive/walk/run/fly to the arena. You wait in long merch or food stands. You sit through an insufferably long opening act (ahem,MMJ,ahem). Then the moment's here. The lights go down and you can see five figures creep to their position on the stage. You hear that first note/drum beat/lyric and you know you're losing your pearl jam virginity...
So what was the first PJ song you ever heard live?
Mine was Release, and it was amazing. The whole crowd was into it and it was overwhelming. For the first time I understood why some people faint in church.
Anybody else?
Wow, thats how I felt in June. That description just gave me goosebumps.. described soooooooooo perfectly.
My first song: Hard to Imagine 6-24-08 followed by Release the next night.
