but if i was buying today....no way i buy a phone with out 4g....i'd go bionic on verizon..
4g is a battery hog for me. The evo 3d didn't impress me overall as much as the original evo(had both). iPhone is a great phone that rarely has any software issues or glitches like android phones and has an awesome battery life. imo, there are zero phones out there that even compare to iPhone(especially with the 4s coming out in a few days).
How about that iOS 5? What other features are cool?

i disagree on 4g killing the battery....
yes, if you leave 4g on all the time in non 4g zones it will, but if you are in a 4g zone and have it on, it's fine.
i do agree about bugs...early versions were a little more buggy than i would like....gingerbread has been great so far.
so what did that add that was so cool to the new isystem
Holy shit, man. You started downloading iTunes hours ago. What the hell is going on?
2nd attempt at downloading the software update stopped because if I don't I will snap the phone in half...I have done that before. It should be simple. You plug this piece of shit in and it does its thing. Instead it just fucking hangs. Holy FFUUUUCKKK!!!!! :-x

Someone mentioned that they added a notification for all future limited release pj goods. It may be worth upgrading for that feature alone (shit, that's not a bad idea for the pearl jam app, along with making it available to android)
I think capthowdy summed up the new features pretty well.

you gotta plug it in? serious?
Yes. Apple seriously for being so cutting edge just holds on to the past with some shit. I just tried it for a third time and I'm done now. If I don't I will have a hole in my living room wall. I hate...hate...hate when electronic devices don't do what they are supposed to do. fuck fuck fuck fuck
I have the Iphone 4 and I'm really happy with it. I don't really care about 4G. the iphone works so smoothly. I've tried other phones but I love the whole apple ecosystem. it's all just so easy for customers.

Decide if it's time to leap forward to a brave, new operating system
Apple's new mobile operating system is finally nigh and imminent. Apple fans have been eagerly awaiting iOS 5 since it was announced in June. Last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed an October 12 release date for iOS 5, at the same time that he revealed the iPhone 4S. Apple mobile devices like the iPad and iPhone are eligible to upgrade to a brave new world of cloud computing, with exciting new notification features and money-saving messaging.
If you're like many computer and electronic consumers, though, you might be a little nervous about the idea of immediately upgrading to iOS 5. Older gadgets often feel slower when upgraded to new operating systems, and the fearsome specter of annoying bugs lurks around every corner. You could be tempted to wait until iOS 5.1 hits the street, hoping the later release might clear up any troublesome features and smooth out your experience.
Here's why you should overcome those worries and upgrade to iOS 5.
iMessage in action
Save on your phone bill
iOS 5 debuts a new iMessage system that communicates across wifi and mobile data plans instead of traditional SMS text messages. You'll be able to trade chat message with friends and family who also use iOS 5 devices without ever dinging the capacity on your SMS plan. If most of the people you chat with are also on iPhones, you can safely reduce the size of your SMS plan. If you use iMessage while you're on a wifi network, it won't even use up your mobile data plan. For no other reason than the possible text message savings, iOS 5 is a boon.
Cut the cord
Wednesday could be the last day you're forced to sync your iPhone to your PC or Mac using a wire. Once you're loaded up with the new operating system, your device can sync with iTunes wirelessly to load music, movies, and documents to your device. You can even download and upgrade additions to the iOS without plugging in a cable. This anticipated freedom from extra cables is a huge benefit to iOS 5. Even if you can wait for the newest apps, you won't want to wait for this feature.
iCloud convenience
Apple's cloud storage features, known as iCloud, means that you can snap pictures on your iPhone and have them available on your computer without even having to sync. iCloud stores your documents online and pushes them automatically to all of your iCloud-eligible devices. You'll get 5GB of storage for free, which is even more storage than you get with Dropbox. Much like wireless syncing, iCloud makes your iOS 5 devices work more conveniently, independently, and without cumbersome data cables. Why wait to experience that kind of freedom?
Twitter integration
Twitter is already a big part of many iPhone users' lives. Social networking 140 characters at a time is fun, fast, and convenient. Apple recognizes the immense popularity of Twitter and is baking new Twitter functionality right into iOS 5. You'll be able to tweet directly from Safari, the camera, YouTube, and many other popular iPhone apps. You can even send a tweet from the iPhone Maps application. If you're a Twitter user, iOS 5 is a huge convenience upgrade for you.
Notifications get a makeover
Notification Center
Your iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch all produce dozens of notifications. New emails, new text messages, reminders, friend requests, and so on can all clutter up your iOS device. iOS 5 bundles all those notifications and puts them in a single Notification Center. This centralized location gives you a single place to get all of your notifications, keeping them from popping up inconveniently in the middle of your screen. You won't have to suffer interruptions while you're working on other tasks, and your lock screen becomes more useful. Notifications can be a pain in the neck for iPhone users, so the new Notification Center in iOS 5 is a welcome convenience.
Other upgrades
Of course, there are more than a few other upgrades that come along with iOS 5. You'll finally be able to perform AirPlay mirroring from your iOS device, streaming anything that's on your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S straight to your TV through Apple TV. You can use italics and bold text in your email, flag important messages, and even search the body text of emails. Mobile Safari is getting some upgrades with a Reading List read-later option, tabbed browsing on iPads, and an overall faster, smoother performance.
The list of reasons to upgrade to iOS 5 is pretty long. iOS 5 will work on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, the third-generation iPod touch or later, and all iPads. Considering the operating system upgrade is free, you have relatively little to lose by going up a step. At the end of the day, the reason you should upgrade to iOS 5 is the new operating system is a huge, impressive upgrade; get in on the game as early as possible.

I got it installed on my 3GS. Running fine right now, but the new Music app isn't working right. When I click the artists tab several bands are missing, but when I click on albums they show up. Very strange.
EDIT: I just deleted everything but Foo Fighters Wasting Light. When I click on Artists it says No Music. When I click on Albums, the album appears. Any idea how to fix this?
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

yea. upgrade to the 4S already.
no but seriously I have no idea. i would just delete all the music and put new music back on. and BTW with ios5 you can now delete music from your device without synching it to the comp. just swipe the song to the left and it'll say delete. if you wanna delete an entire album just tap and hold the album art and click X. then just redownlaod the music again thru iTunes on the device. unless you didn't buy on iTunes, then just sync it to your computer.

I deleted the album and added it multiple times through iTunes. Each time it still shows up under Albums, but not Artists. Very strange.

Here's a quick fix to put the annoying Newsstand into a folder:
- Take two apps and go to create a folder
- The second the apps are in the folder and it’s doing the folder creation animation, drag Newsstand into the folder
- As long as you’re quick enough Newsstand will go into the folder!
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

Just tried two more times tonight...my IPhone 4 just won't do it...I threw it across the room and now it won't turn on...something tells me I have to activate my old Blackberry in the morning.
Updated the wife's 3GS to iOS 5. Now her Mail app crashes as soon as it opens. I tried syncing and restarting the iPhone, but no luck. She's not too happy with me for updating her phone. Anybody else having this issue? Mail is working fine on mine.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

check the information on the album on your computer. iTunes is reeeeaaalllllyy annoying at times when the album info isn't spot on. make sure the artist name and album for each song are perfectly the same. maybe thats it.
edit: noticed this about ios5. even when you do a soft reset (home button and power button for a few seconds) it still saves the last song you were on in the iPod app. before it didn't do that and I hated it.
I really like imessage.
It looks like they gave us the ability to add our tones for text alerts, unless it was there before and never notice.
The wireless syncing is nice as well.
So far works good in my 4 and wife's 3gs.

I checked and everything matches perfectly. I'm very anal about the way my music is labeled, so everything is usually set up right. I'm not sure what's going on.
