Is an awesome slow balad song.
Up there with Black.

    I love this song.

"And I'm the night, as I'm waiting on
The real possibility I may meet you in my dream
    I go to sleep"

Pulls on the heart strings. But for me, Black is still a more emotional song, cause I have lived Black, This line in particular

    "I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky, but why, why, why
Can't it be, can't it be mine?"

    Yes!

    And...

    "I take a walk outside
I'm surrounded by some kids at play
I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin round my head
    I'm spinning, oh, I'm spinning"

Great Song. Definately my fave off S/T. I was fortunate to see them perform it live at Mansfield I 08. Awesome.

Never much grew on me. I'm trying to think of another "ballad" a la Black that really hits me. Maybe it's my definition of ballad, which has to be both slow in tempo but also about longing and desire. Or it's not something I really look for from PJ.
  • I like black better but come back is a good one

  • my woman and i love this tune...i really wanted to hear it live...no luck....

there was already a thread comparing these two songs, it turned into arguing about what each song meant. anyways...i think "come back" is right up there with "black." The emotion from eds voice is comparable in both songs and (to me) they both are refering to love lost in some form or another.

they both have potential to jerk tears from anyone who has experienced similar situations....and that takes a damn good song!

Not bad! ;) (read name and sig)

I love the song, it hits close to me.

Black is classic, love that one too. Used to hit close to me, enough time has passed.

Surprising to me, actually. Such an open journal. It's brave of him.

    I think it's highly underrated.
Some say it is one of the weaker songs on pearl jam, but I think it it heads & shoulders better than anything I have heard on the radio in the last few years. It is 99% as good as Black.

  • This song could have been one of my all time favorites...the lyrics are amazing, the combination of the simple guitar and Ed's voice in the verses are wonderful, and the outro is simply killer with Mike and Ed shinning. But i just can't get use to Ed's part where he sings "the real possibilityyyyyyyyyyy" It just doen't sound good to my ears. I keep trying...but for now i'll say that it's a song that i like, not love :)

i think when they play the song live, the boys need to be wearing shark skin suits and spinning in order just like the 4 tops or something. :D

Even that wouldn't save this dreadful song. There are a couple of somewhat annoying songs in PJ's repetoir but this is the only song that makes me want to stuff dirty sweat socks in Eddie's mouth before it's too late.

I thought this song should have been released as a single, lots of other people would dig it.

I'm gonna try to play it tomorrow 9/30, cause that date has significance to me...might not be easy cause its a heavy song
  • IMO "Black" is million times better.
"Come Back" is the song that I skip every time I listen "Avocado".
Let's say knowledge is a tree, yeah.
It's growing up just like me.
  • I think it's the lamest piece of cheese in Pearl Jam's catalog, and the fact that there is a new thread about it every week proves that most Pearl Jam fans have bad taste in music.
  • Good, not great song. As far as PJ slower songs go it's on the list, but towards the bottom, with of course Black being at the top.

  • I guess I'm in the minority here, but I think this is a very average song. Yeah, I don't doubt that there's a valid sentiment in it, but it just comes across to me as really cheesy and contrived. It really does nothing for me.
