Obviously you don't talk to anyone around here....

  • Nah, mostly everyone here loves No Code. Its kinda like "your not a true fan unless you like No Code." Which isn't true but you get my point. I happen to like Yield more.

sorry. i seriously thought you were fucking with us.

to your question, no, here No Code is the the old testament and Yield is the new testament of the PJ bible ! lol

those seem to be the two albums that EVERYONE loves.

its everything that came out after Yield that is up for debate.

i love NC and Yield, but as it stands right now Avacado is what i listen to the most. i think someday it will be held in the same regards as NC and Yield. but i could be wrong ;)

    anyway, welcome to the board.

    have fun.
    Peace, Love.

No Code is one of my favorite vinyls to play. Played it the other night as a matter of fact.

    lol good point.
The people I speak to rate No Code poorly in terms of its lyrics.
I beg to differ, the lyrics are brilliant.

  • No Code was way ahead of it's time. Much like the great bands before them...it showed real growth and it was a creative departure from what they had done up until then...it was a true mark of how talented these guys are.
"Had my eyes peeled both wide open, and I got a glimpse...of my innocense, got back my inner sence, baby got it...still got it"
  • Did the people who you talked to say this, "Pearl Jam's No Code sucks, I would much rather listen to Creed's Weathered"?

I'll see those people in HELL!!!

Back when it was released I remember a lot of people hating it. Pearl Jam was still a pretty big deal commercially, and when "Who You Are" hit the radio everybody was like "wtf." That along with several other songs from the album broke new ground for the band, and it didn't have the appeal that the other records did to the casual listener. Subsequently the band has become less and less popular.

Mind you, none of these things matter. I just know a lot of people my age who were turned off to PJ with the release of this album. I, however, loved it from day one. When I first heard "Present Tense" and "Red Mosquito" I said they were some of the best songs they had written to date. And I still think that
I am lost, I'm no guide. But I'm by your side...

All that matters is that you like it.
To me it is the perfect album, a variety of different styles and sounds.

I love No Code, I just love it. But then I like all PJ's albums, yes even Riot Act to those out there who love to knock that album! No Code is a highly creative and experimental album with some brilliant stuff, especially Present Tense, Red Mosquito and Smile (although Smile wasn't written by PJ was it? correct me if I'm wrong!). Everyone has their different opinions on what PJ albums they like and dislike but this is a fantastic album and I listen to it every now and then, even my husband likes it, someone who's very fussy with his musical tastes and only likes "some" of their stuff.
  • No Code Is F*&%ing Brilliant. In My Tree Is Genius Song Writing. Spend The Money For That Song Alone If I Had To.

you are corrected sir. there has only been one song cowritten with an "outsider" on any of their albums, that being Army Reserve YUCK!!!!!! YUCK even mentioning the name of the song makes me vomit horrendously

You are somewhat correct. Ed is credited with the lyrics and Jeff with the music. However, Ed's lyrics actually come from a note that was written to him by one of the members of The Frogs.

I thought it was just the 'Three crooked hearts and swirls all around...' line at the end that came from that note.

Although when you look at the rest of the lyrics there really isn't much left...
