My father bounced for & drove with Hendrix to numerous shows in NY. He always mentioned how well Jimi treated him. He also was with Cream, Sly & the Family Stone, Ike & Tina Turner, & Mountain to name a few.
I always got a lecture how bad drugs were after he spent time with the bands & seeing how fucked up they got......... I had to listen & obey the old man too. He was 6'1" 250 & played semi-pro football for 17 years. One tuff son of a bitch. RIP pop.
So, What you Giving ?........ (Thanks Speedy, Alesek, & Arq+friends)
    What You Giving

I suggest you step out on your Porch.
Run away my son. See it all. Oh, See the World!

oh geez... I've seen most of these bands
Me too. I can't imagine having parents that were into the music I like.
I've seen quite a few as well...one of many great things about being old! :o The one I missed that Paul saw a few times were the Doors. I am jealous about that as they were probably my fav before you know who. ;) My parents were actually pretty cool, liked the bands they could understand the words to that weren't too rock...Elton John, Cat Stevens, Carole King, Beatles, etc., but it was my grandmother who was born in 1897 who really supported me, not only in the music but also the long hair. She said the boys looked cute! Yes, I have had a wonderful life! :)

My parents saw Johnny Cash front row, Elvis Presley at the Spectrum and John Denver a few times! My aunt saw The Beatles on their first U.S. tour. I would trade any number of shows I've seen in the last 20 years to see even 5 minutes of anyone of these shows. I'm just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat. I know it's just wishful thinking... but if I had a time machine, all I would do is go see epic concerts of the past!

My dad got to see the Moody Blues @ Redrocks.... Oh that bastard...

In 20 or 30 years time, your kids will be jealous of the shows you saw, mine are now asking me about some I saw, Nirvana in '91, Metallica/Anthrax double bill in '86, GnR '88 (Donington), Chili Peppers '92 (Rollins Band supporting) etc, etc.
I didn't realise the significance of most of these at the time, Nirvana being the exception, it was in Calton Studios in Edinburgh, which holds about 500, there must have been about 1000 locked out

Jealous of my Dad. He has seen The Pogues, Madness, The Cure (I have seen them too but he saw them first).
He saw alot of awesome African music when he lived in Johannesburg. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but he saw Ipi Tombi (a famous African musical in the 1970's).
Jealous of my brother, Nirvana, Faith No More, Metallica (back in the days when they were REALLY good), The Tea Party and heaps of others.

Mum was never allowed out to things like that when she was young so not jealous of Mum. ;)

Anyone should be jealous of you when you saw Pink Floyd. Just about the best show I eve saw. My parents never saw anybody good, but my husband saw Led Zeppelin back in the 70s, so I guess I'd have to say I'm jealous about that!

my parents didn't really get to see any cool bands, as they're from a super small village where nobody famous ever comes by (nearest actual concert city is munich, and that's about a 3 hour drive away)...I remember my dad saw deep purple, and my mum went to joe cocker in berlin, both sometime in the 1970s, but that's about it.

My parents were never big live concert goers...but my dad was 10th row for the Stones first US tour. Pretty cool. He also was on his motorcycle and almost went to Woodstock. Decided to head back to Maine though. Shame though...he probably could have made it on his bike. Most of his concert experiences have come through me. I have taken him to see U2 (Elevation 2001), Springsteen (2009), and Clapton x2 (1998 & 2006>>with Derek Trucks).

I am sure when people look back they will see my concert resume and be pretty impressed.

The one show my dad saw that I'm really jealous of is Rory Gallagher in 1974, at Bristol Colston Hall. He's seen a few other things, but all a long time ago. Our only shared concert experience was Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros, which was very cool. A lot of my musical interests have come from borrowing (often without asking or knowing the ocntents) tapes (remember them)... some of my favourite albums/songs have come from that, Blood On The Tracks, although he wasn't a huge fan I found a copy of Born In The USA and loved No Surrender from the first time I heard it... that sowed the seeds of an obsession that's as bad as my PJ one. From that I've just moved on and now have way too little time to hear all that I have! It broadened my horizons greatly and I can't thank him enough for that.
The secret to a happy ending is knowing when to roll the credits

It was more the amount of people locked out and the level of excitement that made me wonder about Nirvana at CS, not their performance, which I agree wasn't the best, I'd seen them earlier in the year (or the year before?) at Reading, but there were too many people there. I gave my Calton Studio ticket stub away to a friends daughter recently, it was her 21st birthday, her Dad got it framed for her.
Was at the Soundgarden gig you mentioned, and AIC supporting Megadeth, and probably many more that you were at (virtually every 'Metal' gig at The Playhouse or in or around Edinburgh in the mid/late 80's)...we may even have met!!!!!
