Anyone else jealous of shows your parents got to see?

My parents saw Johnny Cash front row, Elvis Presley at the Spectrum and John Denver a few times! My aunt saw The Beatles on their first U.S. tour. I would trade any number of shows I've seen in the last 20 years to see even 5 minutes of anyone of these shows. I'm just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat. I know it's just wishful thinking... but if I had a time machine, all I would do is go see epic concerts of the past!

My mom saw the Beatles at Comiskey Park.

Other than that, I doubt they went to enough decent shows between the two of them to need both hands to count.

My parents attended concerts don't make me too jealous but one of their friends (he's on this board but I don't know his username) has been to just about everything in the States. I think he saw Led Zep's first American show, was at Woodstock- so he saw just about everyone in music, has seen Dylan in the 100's, Springsteen countless times, believe he saw Hendrix at Fillmore East but I could be wrong, The Dead way too many times and the list goes on and on. He has been going to concerts from the 1960's-present. He and his wife(also at Woodstock) gave me a lift home from PJ in Newark last year.

trading any shows you've seen in the last 20 years for 5 minutes of one of those? that's quite a statement. i'm sure at the time that your parents saw those shows, the historical significance of what they were seeing wasn't fully appreciated. how could it have been? it's easy to say stuff like that when you are looking back 50 years. i don't want to take anything away from the beatles, as i would be in agreement with the millions who consider them the greatest rock band of all time, however, they weren't known as much of a live act. personally, i wouldn't trade the my morning jacket bonnaroo 2008 show that i was lucky enough to attend for anything. and i've also been lucky enough to see bob dylan in the flesh, so my life is complete. (though i do wish i could've seen dylan in the 60's or even 70's)

to answer your question in a simpler fasion, no i am not jealous.

A resounding YES!! My mom is not a big music person, but got to see 2 awesome shows in particular: Rolling Stones at Shea Stadium and Led Zeppelin at MSG.

My dad, on the other hand, is a HUGE music person and gave me the music foundation that I am forever grateful for. He introduced me to amazing artists at a really young age- I can remember listening to The Who, Hendrix, The Beatles, and The Doors with him. He's had some RIDICULOUSLY cool music experiences, guess it was pretty awesome being intothe music scene in the late '60s and early '70s:
-Woodstock. Was 2nd row the first day. He has some pretty amazing stories from that! And still raves about Hendrix and The Who and Santana's performances.
-Small club shows with Ace Frehley- My dad and Ace were friends growing up, they grew up in the Bronx together and would always run into each other at gigs (my dad wasn't a musician, he just loved music), so they hung out quite frequently.
-Fillmore East shows: When my dad was a teenager/early 20s, he worked at a clothing store across the street from The Fillmore. So he had easy access to a lot of cool shows, notably The Who, The Doors, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Edgar Winter.
-Zeppelin at that Garden concert, which I am supremely jealous of! He has also gotten kicked out of a bar with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page before. What the hell?!
-He skipped school to see Black Sabbath on their first US headlining tour!
-The Ramones at CBGB's, which must've been unreal!
-The Kinks in a really small venue
-Run DMC at the Garden. Took some of his students too (he's a teacher)

  • My mom mostly listens to terrible music, but she was at the tragic Who concert in Cincinnati in 1979. Although I'm not sure that I can actually say that I'm jealous of that.

I'm not entirely sure I would have wanted to be at a Beatles concert, except just to be able to say I was there. My favorite stuff from them came after they stopped touring for the most part. I really have no desire to hear them sing "Love Me Do" or "I Want To Hold Your Hand" while hysterical teenage girls scream in my ear to the point they bleed.

I would have loved to have seen The Stones on the Exile On Main Street Tour, Pink Floyd during any tour or Led Zeppelin, but oh well.

my parents didn't go to concerts I don't think but I just talked to a guy last night who went to the last Jimi Hendrix show of the Experience tour in 1969. I was jealous.

I'm not. My old man's seen REO Speedwagon countless times. Though I have considered going to see them b/c of sentimental reasons and I know so many of their tunes.

The one show that he attended that I would go to was Super Jam 77 at Busch Stadium.

My grandma went and saw George Jones. I loved him when I was little and I remember throwing a pretty big fit for her to take me. She brought me a totally kick ass tour shirt with about 100 flags from all the states and countries he was visiting on his tour

  • My Dad saw both Hendrix and Zeppelin before they got big... Hendrix at the Southampton Guildhall in '67, and Zeppelin at the Bath Festival '68. That makes me more jealous than you can imagine! He also took my Mum to the Isle of Wight Festival 1970 (Hendrix and The Who) just a few weeks into their relationship :) He went to hundreds of gigs during the 1960s British blues rock explosion, so saw the likes of Cream, Rolling Stones, The Who etc. etc. in the early days. I get depressed just thinking about it.

I never had the chance to talk to my Dad about music but I'm sure there were quite some shows/stories to tell. But my mum told me they saw the Beatles here in Hamburg at their beginning at the famous Starclub (and ate at the same take away afterwards  were my mum actually got autographs from all of them! Present whereabouts unknown :( ) and they went to see Led Zep in Hamburg as well in March 1973!! Actually me included but I was -6 months by then as I was only born in September later that year ;)
So, I am actually very proud to say my first show was a Led Zeppelin show :D:lol:

my father saw the doors under the arch on the riverfront in st louis in the late 60s. sounds pretty sweet.

he also had tix to led zeppelin but something ridiculous involving high school and drugs prevented him from going. HAHA.
