Best PJ Opener?

Which opener in the past 20 years has been the best? for my moneys worth it was My Morning Jacket during the 2006 U.S. Tour. I mean, wow, one of the best live acts in America right now and us PJ fans got to see them back in '06 when they were rising stars, boy did they put on a helluva opening act. Got my super juiced for Pearl Jam.

I'm sure there are other stand-outs, so what say you? :?:

in order from the best down, my morning jacket, sonic youth, sleater kinney, eleven, mudhoney, bad religion, ted leo, carnival art. missed (drank through) the fastbacks, cheap trick and ben harper. only mmj and sk really killed it and played it like a headlining show. wish i had been willing to drive a little further to catch one of the bob pollard shows.

Red Hot Chili Peppers in Seattle in 2000. It was very cool to see such a popular band play a basic, opening act set. After that, doesn't get much better than the Mudhoney, QotSA, Strokes lineup at PJ20.

I agree with My Morning Jacket. I saw them open 3 different shows that tour and thought each time they were great. They had a lot of previous albums that they could pull music from too to mix the setlist up some.

From the 14 shows I've seen:
(I counted PJ20 main stage acts only)

    GREAT:
    1.) Sonic Youth
2.) Queens of the Stone Age
    3.) The Strokes
    4.) Kings of Leon
    5.) Sleater-Kinney

    GOOD:
    6.) Mudhoney
    7.) Bad Religion
    8.) Social Distortion
    9.) Buzzcocks

    OK:
10.) My Morning Jacket (to be fair, I didn't know any of their material at the time!)
    11.) Band of Horses
    12.) Death Cab for Cutie

    BORING:
    13.) Gob Roberts
    14.) Ted Leo

My vote would probably be for either Kings of Leon or My Morning Jacket.

It was fun to see them playing after Slayer/My Chemical Romance/Placebo at Reading too though (poor little emos didn't know what to do! :D)

  • Mudhoney is lame.. I tried but after 3 shows, ive given up. RHCP in 2000 was unreal. Played a rad old school set had lots of fun. And before that Ed came out with Wellwater Conspiracy. Other shows, Supersuckers are kinda fun. No love?
