You piqued my curiosity so I checked and found 1 listing, currently going for $20.51, if there's thousands of these for sale here, the secondary market will not be that strong and Speedy's nemeses the flippers won't be able to profit greatly.

There were 2000 Benaroya Hall vinyls and those are very hot commodities. 5000 of these will still be somewhat collectible IMO.

Just picked one up after randomly walking into the Apple store here in Buffalo and checking in.

Definitely takes the sting off of missing out on the vinyl last night.

I'm fucking stoked to get one!

As a long time collector of PJ vinyl, here are my two cents on the flipping matter... I don't collect things to sell them. But, if I score a super-rare record, why wouldn't I enjoy the fact that it's worth a lot? Sure, I agree that we, as huge fans of the greatest American rock band ever, should have a shot at owning whatever memorabilia we want to buy, but wouldn't that take a lot of the fun out of collecting? I've spent a few bucks on ebay over the years, but that's just the nature of the collecting game, right? I don't necessarily assume most people on here are buying them to flip. I think most folks on here are like me when it comes to this stuff, and I'll never sell my collection. In fact, I might just get buried with my unopened Benny Hall!

It takes balls to come out and say that and have that mind set. Fair play Kev. As a collector you know that you win some and you lose some. Its part of the game.

One way to stop the flippers is to make the buyers hesitate to lay down big bucks in fear of the item becoming available again.

This is the correct attitude. I respect you for it.

Collecting is a "game". The thrill of the hunt is often the best part of it. I'd say that 99.9% of us still have something out there that we are chasing after. If you happen to have something in your collection that you're willing to part with to get that other item you go either trade what you have for it or sell what you have to raise the money to be able to buy it.

I not only collect Pearl Jam items but also tour golf equipment and on a small scale, Porsche automobiles. I've purchased a few Porsches for my collection and to use/enjoy. Then my taste changes and I sell those to be able to afford the next one that I want. Sometimes the cars I buy appreciate...sometimes they depreciate. It's part of the game.

My philosophy on collecting.... Buy what you like...not what you expect to appreciate in value. That way you'll never be disappointed.

Obviously these will likely rise in value over time again, but if there's 5000 of them (speculation of course), then they won't be selling for crazy dollars. Its 2.5 times as many Benaroyas, so one could infer that they'd likely garner no more than 40% of what a Benaroya can get on a secondary market, probably less cause many more die hard collectors will have this now, and the Benaroyas were individually numbered making them more desirable to some collectors.
At any rate I think a large chunk of fans who were interested in owning one of these likely nabbed one for $25 plus shipping over the last 15 hours, there's gonna be those who missed out, creating some secondary market demand, but I think it won't be crazy.

  • Do people actually think these things are worth more than $25 now?? People are mainly buying them now cause they think they have a $$$ value... Trust me when I say MOST people arent buying them because they love Backspacer... I feel for those who paid bigtime bucks for these when they were "rare". I was almost one of those people up until this past week.

totally passed on it. black vinyl will do just fine for me.

my least favorite PJ album, going to get the least amount of spins. just need it to help complete the collection.

i hope the value doesn't decrease TOO much for those who bought the original batch for some big time loot.

I think 5000 is still a high estimate of the number pressed, but the point remains....Why would they just sit on these for so long?

My guess would be somewhere in the middle(maybe 3000 or so), unless quite a few people bought huge batches. Enough for plenty of people to get them, but not enough to totally kill the collectibility.
