Ton of trades today, my canes got williams back, now they just need 2 more top six forwards and we got a shot.
Wouldn't it be funny if the world ended in 2010, with lots of fire?

I hope someone signs Jagr. I wouldn't mind him back with the Rangers.

to be honest.  I don't think he will be signed.  with the cap pretty much staying in the same place as last year not many teams are going to sign a player who is in his 40.

Got my tickets to the Pens home opener, and my tickets to see "Let's Play Two" the night before.  Looking forward to an awesome couple of days in, as Ed would say, "the City of Champions."

Red Wings may have burned their salary cap, but at least they were smart enough to put the locker room logo on the ceiling.

    Where is your team?
Kings @ 25-1.  Probably better odds than I would give.  Suspect D beyond the top and our O wasnt good enough last year.  Hopefully with Quickie in net all year and some changes on Offense, we position well to make a run.  Should be interesting with new coaches to see if the philosophy changes much from Sutter's forumula.

  • Blackawks are 11-1.  Not great odds, but that seems like the highest they have been for the past few years.  After 1st round exits the last 2 years, anything but a deep playoff run would be disappointing.

I bet they get a bargain out of him at 1m. I'm a Blues fan and was hoping they'd give him a shot.
I think I'm going to re-write Ed's "All The Way" lyrics and relate them to being a die hard Blues fans. Another season and playoff series or two of disappointment coming my way.

I'm just going to do what I do every other year as a Habs fan - hope for the best, expect the worst.

    Predictions?
    Playoff teams:
    Montreal, Tampa Bay, Buffalo, Toronto
    Pittsburgh, Columbus, Rangers, Devils
Nashville, Chicago, St Louis, Minnesota, Dallas
    Anaheim, Edmonton, Calgary

Columbus vs Edmonton in the SCF.  Edmonton wins

McDavid gets the Hart and Art Ross again
    Carey Price - Vezina
    Hedman - Norris

if we are looking for good value odds for winning the cup.  I would go with one of
    Columbus +2000
    Montreal +2000
    Calgary +2500
    St. Louis +2800
    Ottawa +4000

Is he? I figured that when you're the greatest player to play for the franchise and literally save them from going under...fans would want you to be last.
I know nothing of the guy though beyond I loved him growing up.

Lemieux was the hockey equivalent of what's called a "cherry picker" in basketball.
  • MayDay10MayDay10 Posts: 11,720
He always has seemed so full of himself, has never been a great ambassador to the game, and him and the Penguins were always given preferential treatment.  Cried when things didnt go his way.  How many times did he threaten to quit if the rules werent changed?  Remember when he quit on the team and got Ubriaco and Esposito canned?  The team was bankrupt and owed him money, and he claimed an ownership stake at pennies on the dollar which was a no-brainer investment.
  • ledveddermanledvedderman Posts: 7,761
I'd heard the cherry picker complaint and I agree with it 100%. Didn't know those business details though. He seems quite shifty after reading those.

it isn't shifty... it was smart.  But on the other hand, he is put out there as a hero swooping in and for saving the team as if it were some sort of sacrifice, but it has made him a rich man.  In the process, he threatened, almost to the point of no return, to move the team to kansas city, only to get Pennsylvania to pay for $317 Million on a $321 Million dollar building.

I am always extraordinarily cynical toward him and the Pens.  He was the over-saturating hype master before Crosby.  I remember the Sabres played them in a playoff series, and the Sabres would score, and instead of showing them celebrate, the cameras would be on Lemieux to show his reaction.

    this incident
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysGiUe9M07E

then he continued to carry his crybaby mentality to the owners box.  The Islanders and Pittsburgh had a fight filled game, and much like when he played, he threatened to take his ball and go home
    http://www.espn.com/new-york/nhl/news/story?id=6118511
"If the events relating to Friday night reflect the state of the league, I need to rethink whether I want to be a part of it."

oh, and not to mention, the Penguins proceeded to employ a few of the most dangerous cheap shot artists in the league, mainly James Neal who nearly killed Marchand a few years later
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7ft_DciAac

He was a very on and off player who would get moody.  It wasnt always a great relationship with Pittsburgh fans.  In the late 80s, he got his record breaking contract, quit on his coach and GM, and was getting booed.

Now with all that said, if I were a Pittsburgh sports fan, I would worship the guy.

  • Calling Mario a cherry picker is absurd.  Talking about him taking partial ownership of the penguins being shady is absurd.  Showing a video of him losing his mind and condemning him as some kind of drama queen is absurd.  I don't even know how to respond to the cherry picker thing so I won't, how do you argue against something that doesn't exist?  The penguins signed Mario to contracts they were never going to be able to pay him. At the time of taking partial ownership of the team it did not look like an equitable solution for Mario, it looked pretty bad, thank god for crosby.  And the video thing, jesus, half the time Mario was on the ice he was being hit cheaply.

Happy birthday Mario, hopefully you weren't at the game tonight.

Saw them on Saturday when they were here in Columbus.  They look like a dangerous team, very quick.  Fun game to be at but sure was not expecting a  6-4 final score with Bob and Quick in goal.

Vegas is looking good! I’m happy for Marc Andre that he got out of that fair weather city of Pittsburgh and is finding success with the Knights.
