I remember that bass. I remember Paul Wellstone too. He died when I was a freshman at the U. Sad day. Two years later Ed said at St. Paul "where's Wellstone when you need him?" before playing "Bushleaguer."

Wellstone's tragic accident makes me think of what could have been. Sad that we lost him. On a happier note, I live here in Mn., North Branch to be exact, anyhoo, my daughter attends speech therapy in Pine City and so, on our way there on 35 W N I see this really cool red motorcycle trike. This trike was way different though, with two wheels in the front and a big fat one on the back. So, I tell my son who was driving to pull up alongside of this trike so I can yell cool ride to the driver. We get next to this guy, and I'm sticking my head out the window and gesturing two thumbs up yelling COOL RIDE. The guy turns his head at me and gives me a sweet smile and nods and then my eyes must have bugged out my head, because I only then recognized him, that's when I noticed this name with a logo on the back fin thing on this trike. It was BOB freakin Dylan. No shit! I yell at my son my god, that's Bob Dylan!!!! Anyways we rode along side of him till we had to turn off 35 at the Pine City exit!!! Sweeeeeet!!!!!
My high school job lead me to meet Wellstone a couple times. The lady I worked for was a huge supporter of his and her son was his driver. He also died in the crash. As a teenager, I had no concept of what he was in the world of politics. I just knew him as a powerful man that was very polite, outgoing and personable even to a dumb teenage dishwasher.

That's awesome! I would've driven off the road if I were driving and saw him on that trike. So cool!! Now, if only you'd have gotten a picture!
The Lightning Bolt vinyl pressing fiasco and fix is so bad that I can't tell which vinyl is the "good" one (supposedly the replacement vinyl) and which is the "bad" one (the original). Terrible. Two years out and the vinyl is junk.

saw def leppard/styx/tesla on day one, and then merle haggard/kris kristofferson/sturgill simpson on the last day.
last night's show was a lot of fun. those old farts can still do it. they're obviously not mick jagger in terms of energy, but they certainly still possess the ability to remain incredibly engaging. and sturgill simpson was a perfect compliment. i'm not sure who i *thought* he was (i had come to the show thinking he was a black guitarist similar in style to shakey graves for some reason; clearly i did little research!), so i was kind of thrown when he emerged with a full band and was very clearly a white dude. but he tore through something like 15 songs in his allotted time and his music was no doubt influenced by the legends he was opening for. he's a modern country artist without the pop elements that a lot of modern country employs these days. and they even used a theremin.
good to see jerparker there; we seem to run into each other a lot.
^^^ I agree, good times last night. That was the music I grew up listening to, so it's always great to see true living legends in person. On top of that, Mr. Simpson lit it up. I lucked out this past winter in getting to see him at the Fine Line. Great performer.
i figured it out- i was thinking sturgill simpson was benjamin booker. maybe it was the alliterative names. booker is playing the palomino fest in a couple weeks, and i must have confused the two. obviously not too familiar with either, but sturgill simpson won me over and hopefully benjamin booker will do the same here in a couple weeks.

You going to the Palomino Festival too? I'll be there as well. Benjamin Booker is great. Caught his show at First Avenue and his album is solid.
yup, will be at palomino. hoping i can get there early to see the lowest pair, i really like them.
i went last year, and thought it was a pretty great fest. looking forward to this year. looks like they put the stages next to each other this time, which should work better.
.. Until PJ'NYC... Eagles of Death Metal tonight at the Varsity!
it took me waaaaaaaay too long to put together that their band name means they are the eagles (band) of death metal (genre). i hang my head in shame to this day.

haha.. I didn't get there until you just said it. Then again, I'm not very familiar with The Eagles nor Death Metal, but I appreciate the play.
I, too, am excited to hit Dinkytown and see EODM. Jesse "the Devil" Hughes is pretty engaging as a performer.
