I call BS on that. None of those dates work with other events already scheduled. Also, why would the band play cities four months after they just played them?

finally, we would have heard the inevitable, "My friend works at this venue and heard...." rumors already. Complete fake info.

The sentiment remains the same. Play Minnesota, pearl jam!!!

    I agree.

But here's one idea I've kicked around with myself (and dismissed, only to resurrect it a few days later):

What if 2014 is the return of the super tour for the band? I know I know, their touring history over the last 6 years suggests otherwise, but what if Lightning Bolt is different? What if they truly intended all along to really promote the hell out of this thing? What if the band really is as rejuvenated as they sound live and on the new album? The most curious possibility: what if Matt's hiatus really is an indication that they will be touring - a lot?

Maybe not 70 dates, but what about 30-40 total? Is that so unbelievable? As far as I can tell, they're booked through February 2, 2014. That's all we know. It's possible that Europe will get shows, so maybe block out June and July (that's their recent history over there). Would Matt really take an entire year off from Soundgarden for only 3 months of shows?

    Fuck. This is getting exciting...

yeah, beerbarons toronto rumor thread from last night got my attention and piqued my excitement. damn rumors...

someone in that thread hoped for bonnaroo, too, which would be most excellent. however, it occurred to me that were a midwest tour to happen, there may be a possibility they would hit up mpls/st. paul just before or after the fest, meaning a possibility that i wouldn't be able to go because of the travel aspect. man, would that suck.

The one thing I would say about Bonnaroo is that, while I could be wrong, outside of Europe they don't tend to repeat festivals often. They've done Jazz Fest once, Outside Lands Fest once, Lollapalooza once (not including 90s stuff), Bonnaroo once. Would they go again?

Hope so, because that means a 2014 US tour...

I hope for no more festival shows, too!

Unfortunately, it's my understanding festivals are easy money for bands. Headliners get a big chunk of cash to play a shortened set. And they don't have to pay as much $$$ to set up their equipment since most of the stage/lights/sound are already in place.

That said, I think Chicago's been pretty spoiled lately. I'm hoping they skip Chicago this time around and do 2 night stands in Milwaukee/St Paul/Denver to make up for shortened sets we got when they opened for Tom Petty. Don't get me wrong - those were great shows!

Maybe a return to Summerfest & Red Rocks?!

  • I feel out of the loop.

So, I'll jump right in. ...

I don't understand or believe in the idea that Pearl Jam doesn't do big tours anymore. Just because they haven't doesn't mean 2014 wont be the year they do decide to tour the hell out of the US. I mean, it's kind of how they make a living. It's up to them. Other big, older bands (Petty, Springsteen, the Rolling goddamn Stones) have toured the hell out of one album after being a band 20+ years. Why not PJ?

    Also, just watched Fargo.

i have to think they would IF they wanted to. bonnaroo would certainly have them back, as bands like radiohead, dave matthews, and phish have all done the repeat headliner thing. pretty sure pearl jam have doubled up on some of the euro fests, so it's not unprecedented for them- it just hasn't happened in the us.

speaking of dave matthews, i believe our good friend cardoso is going to the show in porto alegre this evening.

I mean, this opens up a whole 'nother bag of worms!

PJ plays MN late summer/fall. Then EV returns next winter/spring for solo shows?

    I'm guessing he'll play Papa Charlie's...

The band and Ed seem to be booking places right and left...but still no MN. :x

As for the band really touring hard, I just don't buy it. They play where they want and when they want, which for the last decade or so has been few places and few times.

Getting five people with families who would rather be doing something else in the same room at the same time is like herding cats.

I think it's a lot harder for the band to play gigs now than it ever has been. I remember reading an interview where Stone said something along the lines of, "We don't play any more shows than what we want to play." If the last almost ten years shows us anything, it's that the band doesn't want to play many shows.

Maybe I'm off and putting too much stock in his statement, but the question asked was why the band plays so few shows....

sweet. i love setlist nerd stuff.

i'll keep your format since we have a lot in common and i can just save my fingers from typing what you already done did.

    1. Covers - 53 unique covers seen. I saw the last time they played "My Generation" (6/30/98 MPLS, MN). The most covers I've seen in a show is 7 (7 of 24 songs, Boston I, 2004). I've seen all of the Pink Floyd covers they do twice over (and all in one show!). I've seen "Whip It" (once, 1x only), "I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts" (once, 2x total), "The Needle and The Damage Done" (once, 3x total), "Here's To the State of Mississippi" (once, 3x total), "Public Image" (once, 7x total), "Bleed For Me" (once, 8x total), "Driven To Tears" (twice, 12x total), and, wait for it, "Happy Birthday" (twice, 7x total)!

    2. States- I've seen them in 10 states (CA 6x, IL 5x, KS 1x, MA 1x, MN 4x, MT 1x, ND 1x, PA 1x, TN 1x, WI 2x).

Got the sit on the player's bench at the United Center. I brought my cousin who was stoked because he's a huge hockey fan. We put our beers in the wall where the player's put their gatorade. It was fun playing with the door and pretending we were jumping over the wall onto the 'ice'.

The thread will live on as there are Midwest fans who want them to come back again. Give us a show and we'll make you glad you came, PJ!!!

If PJ plays Minnesota in 2014 will this thread die or will it just continue on in preparation of them coming back in 2015 and beyond?

It's already been updated from 2011, 2012 and into 2013. It's more of a "Minnesota PJ fans" thread now anyway.

It was ratified at the bi-weekly Tenclub meeting. If you check the agenda for November 2013, it's there in section B, subsection 3, article D.

All this was in the orientation.
  • Fun Fact (Stat) for me is until the Wrigley show, I had a different opening song for every show I went to.

STP 03 - Of The Girl
    STP 06 - Last Exit
    STP 06 - Interstellar Overdrive - Corduroy
    PJ20 - Release
    PJ20 - Wash
    ATL 012 - Why Go?
and then Wrigley 013 - Release (Again). Broke my streak, was a little bumed they didnt play Long Road or Hard to Imagine given the lyrics and the circumstances. Oh well.
