I would imagine there is some type of "bump" involved in that.

In 2009/10, they announced a 2 leg US tour in March, with shows starting in May. Then, they finished shows in Europe over the summer. After that, they didn't play shows until PJ20...so maybe they'll really hit it hard for the next year or so, and then drift back into hermitude...

I think the early announcement has more to do with Big Day Out's booking system than it does PJ's. I expect the countdown to be the album or album related stuff, and then a mid-spring announcement for a tour.

I'm only basing that on the past few tour routines they've done.

Someone was complaining that Wuhsta just got a second show and the South didn't.

From another post, I give you all my "the South should stop complaining because the Midwest has had less shows in the last 5 years" argument:

Looking back at the last 5 years of PJ tours (2008-2013)...

If you look at the 12 state region of the "south" or "southeast" (historically as: AL, FL, GA, KY, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA, WV, TX and OK), over that 5 year period, PJ has played a total of 15 shows in the South. This includes 3 in Florida and 5 festivals (although I don't hear anyone complaining about their Bonnaroo set  ).

If you look at the 12 state region of the "midwest" (historically as: ND, SD, MN, WI, MI, OH, IN, IL, IA, MO, NE and KS), over that 5 year period, PJ has played a total of 10 shows (3 in Chicago including Wrigley, and PJ20).

I know the "play the South" thing is really popular and I, in complete sincerity, really hope they do. But at the same time, there are other places - ahem, the midwest - that have seen less shows in the last 5 years. To say that the southeast hasn't been played in 10 years is inaccurate, especially on the heels of two shows last fall.

I hope PJ plays everywhere, but this myth that the South or Southeast doesn't get shows is a little annoying when the Midwest has seen even fewer shows. We don't complain though...we just bump the shit out of our thread.

Here's hoping everyone sees them who wants to.

I kind of wonder if PJ knows the fanbase they have in the Midwest.

I met lots of people who were in Chicago from Minnesota. I think the band would be pleasantly surprised with the amount of love Minnesota would give them if they stopped here. :-)

They were impressed...in 1998! Then they snubbed us in 2000 and it's all been down hill from there.
No longer overwhelmed it seems so simple now.

Just worked up the nerve to watch video of the two new songs from Wrigley.

They are okay. The solo at the end of "Lightning Bolt" is pretty cool.

    Other than that.....neither grabbed me.

    Thoughts?

Also, I was in Atlanta for PJ last year (almost pulled the trigger on Florida, too) and tried to see Eddie in Memphis in May 012 when he cancelled his spring tour. Couldn't make the fall show work. So, I completely agree with Vant. Hard to when he produces the numbers, don't you actually work? "

Ya, I mean Jeff still has that wellstone sticker on his bass. I wonder if MN crosses his mind when he plays it.

    This is really late..... :fp:

A couple days ago or a week. Whatever. :fp:

VANT asked for the rarest song(s) we've heard live. :?

I know a lot of us have been to the same shows and had the same answers.

I just did some research.... :geek:

No Way has only been played 10 times. Pretty shocked. Love that song. :P

Add that one to the list for those of us who attended PJ20 :corn:

Disregard if this has been reported. I didn't look at the previous pages to check. :nono:

I'll even throw down for a little Minnesota love...

Would just like a show closer than a 10 hour drive.

I know I've been spoiled with Alpine 1.5 hrs and Wrigley 3hrs, but ya know...I sure could use another hit in a few months. :(

If they played in international falls in feb it would still sell out.

Just worked up the nerve to watch video of the two new songs from Wrigley.

They are okay. The solo at the end of "Lightning Bolt" is pretty cool.

    Other than that.....neither grabbed me.

    Thoughts?

i liked lightning bolt alright. musically it's pretty interesting and i was glad it had some "space" as opposed to being a concise little number that most of backspacer was. there was definitely some 70's rock influence on that one. future days i doubt will be a favorite. lyrically, i think i audibly groaned after the first lines to each song were sung. "she comes on like a storm..." .. "if i were to ever lose you i'd surely lose myself"... ugh.

Lightning Bolt the song has potential. I cringed when I heard Future Days. The exact type of adult contemporary that made Backspacer what it was.

I think you're right about the "space" thing. They need a few more songs that have room for solos, tags, a little creativity. With the short, tight songs, they leave paint themselves into a corner and if the song isn't great to begin with, you're kind of stuck.
