Has anyone ever asked Eddie...

...why he chooses to smoke on stage now? I have seen them in concert since 98 and up until about 4 years ago he would never smoke on stage. Clearly he was making a decision not to influence people while he is on stage. Recently he has thrown that thinking out the window and he lights up all the time on stage. Anybody see his rational for doing that and has he ever answered that question in an interview?

It's kind of like smoking after sex and then choosing to smoke during sex...

Either way it's a bad habit.

  • I think he is either more addicted or he just said "fuck it!"

i hope he quits for the sake of his kids if not for himself.

    Hmmm...

Maybe now He feels really good on stage and treat it like home? Sure, it's not this way...

you said it! i mean yes the smoking is bad for his health, singing, and not too good around young children/pregnant people, but that spitting, it makes me want to throw up every time i see it!

Who cares? I don't care if Ed urinates on stage as long as he puts on a great show, which he always does.

    Me too.

BTW. I thought I'm in a minor group of people who don't like spitting on stage...
Is it just that PJ fans become to be so well-mannered ? Do we get older?

I've only ever seen Ed smoke on the side of the stage during solos. He'll run off to the side and light one up quick, maybe have a few puffs out front but Ive never seen him light up and smoke right in center stage

You are not looking closely enough. He's been smoking on stage since about 03 I think. Check out the Live at the Garden DVD. Doesn't bother me but to each his own...

Yeah, at the Sydney 1 2003 show he comes back on at the 1st encore with a smoke, just chatting away, and telling us that he just wanted to finish his smoke because on the stage was the only place you could legally smoke in the arena

too bad for me my 10C seats are always WAAAAAAAY in the back....

I may have seen him smoking, but since I could care less maybe I just blocked it out and forgot.

I'd like to see him NOT be smoking to save his health and voice. However, as long as he doesnt like, stop the show completely to smoke for 5 minutes then I dont have a problem

  • Smoking and spitting are rock n' roll!

I took a couple of mates to a PJ gig last year who claimed not to like the band and they predicted it would be 2 hours of shoegazing 40-somethings doing stadium rock renditions of Daughter. Then Eddie turned up spitting and puffing away and they fell in ove with the group.
we're all going to the same place...

I think you might have some long time 10clubbers pissed off (on) about this. Oh well, might mean more room up front for the rest of us.

My gawd I am so sick and tired of seeing "Eddie/smoking" threads. Get a life people. Stop dissecting this shit. We are really not in a good place as a fan base if we keep creating and discussing this invasive shit. That fact that someone took the time and thought to come up with a cockemamy idea that Ed somehow puts conscious effort into where or not to smoke on stage is ridiculous. If that is all you have to pay attention to while at a PJ concert, you've got issues!!

    Who gives a shit???

And anyone who says "I thought he quit smoking," besides the invasive speculation on this board, where do you get your information?

Fandom itself is an unhealthy behavior. The extremes its taken to here are, well, in need psychiatric attention.
