By the way, I can remember a time ... it doesn't seem like too long ago ... where Yellow Ledbetter was the holy grail.
The first five or six shows I ever went to, that's all my friends and I talked about: "Is this the show where we FINALLY get to see Ledbetter?" It wasn't played that often, usually only on nights where the band was feeling especially generous. We never got to see it.
Finally got it at the last show I saw on the 2000 tour.
Same with me, took me until my 5th show to see it, and I've still only seen it once. I remember them playing Baba O'Riley at that 5th show, and I was a little upset that I would miss it again, but then they played it anyway!

I was just thinking the other day how amazing a cover of How I Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd would be by PJ. A totally different vibe but imagine Mike on that intro and Ed on those vocals.
I do love hearing Ledbetter, still after each show I've gone to, but a change would be nice.
Rockin in the Free World, however, is terribly played out. I mean, I still like hearing it, but I'd love to hear them close with something else, any of the following would be AWESOME:
Release
Alive
Black
Porch
Indifference
RVM
Immortality - bring the outro to absolute CHAOS after the drum solo
Smile
All Those Yesterdays
No Way

Sign No. 4,204 that it's time to stop going to shows.
Seriously.
Yeah, seriously. YL is the perfect closer. It's PJ's "thing", it lets you know the show is coming to an end. When they closed with Indifference, it was fuckin sick, but I felt like I still wanted something. But when YL is played, the show always ends on a happy note. And I agree that RITFW is played too much, and Fuckin' Up should be played more often...or just save Alive for that slot, that would be very sweet.
I love when they play YL. It gives me a 10 minute head start on the crowd as I leave as soon as I hear the first 2 notes. It's so old and the lyrics are so butchered every night.
And seriously if I do leave and they play something else after YL it would be RITFW, another song I can't take anymore.
You sound like a true fan

It's bittersweet for me. I can't even listen to it if not at a show. It means it's over and that makes me sad. :(
Unless, there's a show the next night to look forward to.

I agree, it is somewhat bittersweet knowing that the show is over. But, it just puts me at ease hearing those opening notes. The show goes through so many fast points, slow points, intense points, funny points...it's nice to have the show close on a note where you can see all the fans and the band just relaxing and having a good time. They look so at ease when they play it it's like they're just hanging out with you.
I've brought that up before too. So many of their closers would make great openers and vice-versa. Open with RITFW, close with Wash or Oceans. Play YL to end the first set and then close with Release. I mean, imagine!
Help! PJ is stalking me!! They played Release in the final encore.
I need to enter the witness protection program.

WTF?! Where does that happen? Not to any shows that I have been to...
the second Gorge show in '06.
i never thought i would walk away early but when i heard the opening riff i told my wife i wanted to leave. a whole lot of people thought the same thing.
Esther's here and she's sick?
hi Esther, now we are all going to be sick, thanks
You know I can't disagree more. I've seen 14 PJ shows and I'm always disappointed w/out Ledbetter. It's just the ultimate closing tune for me. Even when I fly on planes I've got this song playing on my mp3 as the plane lands. There's something spiritual in the song (as with many of the songs). I guess if I saw them every show they ever play I wouldn't anticipate it so much but I don't and the times I get to see them are too few and too far between. I'm hoping they play it tonight in Columbia as I'm leaving Athens now for the show tonight.
