are you serious? YL is mostly improved anyway....
  • I'm telling ya, just once, they should open the show with Yellow Ledbetter and follow it up with Baba O' Riley.

I think that would be great. It is a great closing song but this is a nice tour length to really mix it up and add some freshness. It would certainly shake up the die hards in front!!!

YL is a classic, and it feels great in concert but yes, perhaps they need other closers...Just not sure they have the right song to close apart from YL. Indifference is great, but its not a closer IMO. RITFW & Baba are nearly as overplayed as YL....

    Perhaps Alive or Black....

it def. does not fit anywhere in a set list other than a closer.

but i agree... i wish they would start to play it less and less. i would love to see them close out a show with an intense version of RVM or blood.

I love when they play YL. It gives me a 10 minute head start on the crowd as I leave as soon as I hear the first 2 notes. It's so old and the lyrics are so butchered every night.

And seriously if I do leave and they play something else after YL it would be RITFW, another song I can't take anymore.

Yeah, because there's a "right" way to sing it.

I would love to see them open with it, that would be crazy.

By the way, I can remember a time ... it doesn't seem like too long ago ... where Yellow Ledbetter was the holy grail.

The first five or six shows I ever went to, that's all my friends and I talked about: "Is this the show where we FINALLY get to see Ledbetter?" It wasn't played that often, usually only on nights where the band was feeling especially generous. We never got to see it.

Finally got it at the last show I saw on the 2000 tour.

Best version was in San Antonio on the '03 tour ... one of the first times Ed "changed" all the lyrics to be obviously about the impending war in Iraq. And it was beautiful. I just stood there with goosebumps.

Then, they closed with Baba, which is a great second encore song. You've got the lights up, the entire stadium singing that middle bridge part a capella --- it's one of the best moments of my life.

I hope I never get to the point in my Pearl Jam touring career where that feeling becomes boring. If I do, it's time to hang up my touring shoes.

Same with me, took me until my 5th show to see it, and I've still only seen it once. I remember them playing Baba O'Riley at that 5th show, and I was a little upset that I would miss it again, but then they played it anyway!

I was just thinking the other day how amazing a cover of How I Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd would be by PJ. A totally different vibe but imagine Mike on that intro and Ed on those vocals.

I do love hearing Ledbetter, still after each show I've gone to, but a change would be nice.

Rockin in the Free World, however, is terribly played out. I mean, I still like hearing it, but I'd love to hear them close with something else, any of the following would be AWESOME:

    Release
    Alive
    Black
    Porch
    Indifference
    RVM
Immortality - bring the outro to absolute CHAOS after the drum solo
    Smile
    All Those Yesterdays
    No Way

    Covers

Something by the Doors or Pink Floyd!

Yeah, seriously. YL is the perfect closer. It's PJ's "thing", it lets you know the show is coming to an end. When they closed with Indifference, it was fuckin sick, but I felt like I still wanted something. But when YL is played, the show always ends on a happy note. And I agree that RITFW is played too much, and Fuckin' Up should be played more often...or just save Alive for that slot, that would be very sweet.
