    I've heard of people doing that before. Seems very very odd.

    Although, if I was in a position where my newborn baby died within a few hours I'm not sure what I would do. I doubt it would be that, but grief makes you do strange things.

    Santorum is crazy... I lived in PA during his time in office, there, and he is so far out there on a lot of things.

    This sounds weird, but I have a hard time judging someone for really anything they do in the aftermath of losing a child.

    no, it's not fucking normal. that's like a psychotic break. it would be bad enough if he just involved himself and his wife, but to parade his dead child in front of their other children, that's fucking emotional abuse.

    it's just fucked up. those kids will be telling this to a therapist at some point.

    i dont know who this guy is but i can tell you if i lost my premature child, there is every chance that i would want its siblings to say goodbye. and if thats not considered normal then you all gotta know i dont give a fuck.. its something that may need to be done for my family, not the rest of society.

    It's something that is regularly done in hospital after a still birth or a baby dying shortly after birth. The baby is dressed/wrapped in a blanket, the family have private time with him/her - cuddling, talking, singing, etc., a photographer is also available to take pictures. These people decided that, instead of staying in hospital, they would do this at home - their time, no rush from hospital to vacate a room/bed.

    This is not strange and whether this guy is a member of the tea party and whether you agree with his politics or not, what I see is a grieving family saying goodbye to their son/daughter/brother/sister and no cheap shot should be taken regarding their loss and how they choose to cope with it.

    why don't you tell me what is normal after you or someone close to you loses a baby like this...
    The guy is a dick for sure, and someone who should not and won't be in the white house in any capacity...but to talk about this like all of you know what that feels like...shame on you...I had a baby born prematurely...she was in intensive care, had NEC(horrible if you don't know what it is) and luckily the nurses who took care of her for the month she spent in the hospital saved her little life...I couldn't tell you how I would react if she were to have passed, and none of you should judge the actions of this family during what I am sure was a very difficult time...

    as freaky as bringing a dead baby home and sleeping with the child is.......what kid of fucking moron would dig up this kind of crap to try and discredit anyone ? the loss of a child is a very hard thing to deal with and some people handle the experiance differently...odd as it sounds...maaaan the media and polititions are constantly sinking to new lows,what does that say about the media source or the politition that used that info for a tool to discredit someone ? what a bunch of bottom feeders.

    Is this normal? Probably not. Would something like this influence my vote? Again, probably not. From my POV it seems like a rather odd custom, but I don't think it reflects on a person's ability to do their job. Of course, the fact that I find Rick Santorum's social policies to be reprehensible would make it impossible for me to vote for somebody like him. The very idea that somebody like him could hold public office sends chills down my spine. I'm just thankful we don't seem to have nearly as many folks sitting on the far right here up in Canada.

    Catholics (well, in the 'old' country) still hold wakes with the open coffin at home. Quite traditional, really. This is not that much different. These parents decided to take the baby home and arrange something themselves as opposed to sending the baby straight to the mortuary. Has the USA become too 'sanitized' when it comes to death?
