Any other Mastodon fans on here?

I'm just looking for one person I can bullshit with about them! I don't know a single person that's into them so I go to all the shows alone and have no one to talk with about how excited I am for the new album!

  • I'm a huge fan of leviathon and blood mountain. not great live, but not bad either.

Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

    I enjoy the DON!

I'm excited about the new album but at the same time a little worried about it. I hope it blows my mind but we'll see.

I also hope they scrap the vocal style they used on Crack the Skye and get back to some Remission/Leviathan sounding growls but i highly doubt that will happen.

Awesome! I knew I couldn't be the only one.

Intodeep-I'm a little worried about the new album, too. Not because I don't think it will be any good but because I think they've purposely gone for a non-epic, "fun" sound this time around and I don't think that serves a band like Mastodon well. With Mastodon, I love the themes and the depth. In fact, I find I gravitate to most bands for those reasons. Also, some of the song titles are frightening. Any album with a song called "Bedazelled Fingernails" is cause for concern.

I think at this point Blood Mountain is my favorite record. Though Leviathan is a very, very close second. What about you guys?

Actually, Crack the Skye is my fave. It's metal, it's prog, it's EPIC!

Mastodon is pretty cool. Not a big fan of their earlier albums, but I love Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye. Got Blood Mtn and it basically sat in my cd case aside from a few tunes till after Crack the Skye hooked me, but it moved into the top spot after a few times jammin it.

What do you guys think? What's your favorite of the three released so far? I would say Black
Tongue. Still have to give Spectrelight a few more listens though.

With PJ20 and new Mastodon, not a bad September for music!

Don't forget Wilco. They streamed their whole new album just in time for me to get a good rip of it for the trip to night 2

I have the exact same fears. It sounds like Brent was making a push to make a non serious album instead of lettign Brann lead the charge like he usually does. If it is ultra heavy with crushing riffs and growls i'm down but if it is cheesy i'l be disapointed.

I go back and forth between blood mountain and leviathan as my favs. I'll convince myself BM is better then i'll listen to Leviathan and have to say "fuck man this shit is so killer"

On a side note i met Brent this weekend. I was down at Dragon Con in Atlanta and sitting at the Hilton bar he walks in with some buddies. Ijust said hello told him your shit is killer. Nothing much. Oddly enough an hour later i wander into the Hyatt bar order a beer look to my right and there he is again. I did not say anything this time as i did not want him to be like "damn this dude is stalking me" Considering there were 40,0000 people downtown for the Convention it was odd to run into him twice.

That's awesome. I. Met Brann after a show in Brooklyn once. Very cool and down to earth dude. Brent threw the biggest hissy fit on stage that night I've even seen and stopped the show about five times during The Last Barron. Brann said he was going nuts back stage so he had to go and chill him out.

Anyway, I couldn't have said it better about the direction of the writing. It are Brann's themes that make this band so much more than four dudes that can really play. Granted, if they just relied on ability alone they would still be better than pretty much everything else out there but I would hate to see them lose the "thinking man's" metal style they've perfected. You hit the personalities perfectly and I can actually hear Brent saying that about a looser non-serious style. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Or have you read anything about it? All I've seen is that they keep calling it "heavy" and "Zeppelin like" or "like Leviathan".

I'm digging the tour but where is the love for the home town?? I assume they'll get an atlanta show in there sometime soon.

Of course, I wonder if they can top Crack The Sky!!

Brann Dailor, one of the best drummers on the planet.

Met them all at Readin 06 the day Pearl Jam headlined, Brann was like "what's with all the avocados?"

Big Mastodon fan here. Have been since Remission.

My first live experience was seeing them with Slayer and Children of Bodom at a MySpace secret show in SLC, Utah back in August of 2006. My, was that a wonderful day of unexpected metal. Mastodon killed it. They were supporting Leviathan and the absolutely played each song perfectly. I was really impressed.

Saw them last October in support of Crack The Skye, and again... they did a wonderful job. The show was much more elaborate. They've certainly been gaining popularity. They are scheduled for yet another show here very soon and I cannot wait! Also really excited about the new album.

Mastodon and Down are probably my two favorite modern metal bands. Type O Negative would top that list... but, ya know... with Peter Steele passing they are kind of no more.

Very good to hear! I have had the album now for two days but haven't been able to listen to it yet! Stuck at work for a bit longer but can't wait to crank it when I get off (wow, that's kind of a filthy sounding sentence...)

Same here! I honestly didn't know what to expect with a title like that but the song rules. The whole album is amazing!

So I think the band is stalking me i seem to see them everywehre. I've seen them out on the town twice this week along.
Saw Troy and Brann ath the Kyuss/Sword/Monsto show on Monday night (sure it had some to do with troy's brother being in Monstro)
Saw Brent at the Wilco show (yeh did not expect to see him there!) last night about 4 rows behind me.

I think they are stalking me and it needs to stop.

I like that i see them at shows though. Love knowing I am listening or listened to the same shit they do.

As for the new album..... its not blown me away but i'll give it some more time.
