interesting....it is obvious many of our poltical views differ around here, yet we will agree that a raise is "hell no".

You should have to have the median family income of the United states as your salary. If you want a raise...your policies should be based on raising that income. Making life better for your constituents makes your life better...I have no sympathy for those people who chose to run for office...screw em
this is a formula i support.

I'll be damn happy when we get Tea Party representatives and the Conservatives take over the Congress so we'd see an end to all of this liberal elitest bullsh...

    hate seeing this
they get jobs lobbying their contacts who remain in power.
I think that to get the pension after your time in office you are not allowed to join any company like this.
But lets see em fuck themselves over instead of the general public
    LIKELY????

Okay... we all know that Congress's approval is in the single digit range. No one likes them, right? I mean, do you like them? They are doing a terrible job, right?
    ...
We need to get the brightest, most motivated people in those seats to run this nation... right?
Is that going to cost more... or less than the going rate?

right.. but they shouldnt be motivated by the pay packet. $174000 is, in my opinion, enough. if you want to enter public office then you need to be aware of everything involved, including how much you will be paid. if youre not happy with having to 'survive' on $174000 then find another way of serving the public.

I agree... motivation should be what best for ALL Americans... not just the one in your district... not just the one who have a job today.
The problem is... it SHOULD be that way... but, it isn't that way.

Here a description of the type of person who is in it for the country as a whole.

One who pays insurance out of pocket, donates pension back to treasury, is able to run their office with one secretary, and most important votes whats best for the COUNTRY not whats best for the party.

Wake me when this person runs.
