I'm not sure an Egyptian/Libyan style uprising is the only answer. Especially since the only people with the inclination to do something of that nature are the far Right. The far Left are mainly armchair revolutionaries, who even at their most active mainly just put on elaborate protests that are more focused on performance art than their message.

As much as I hate to say it, the Tea Party sort of has the right idea, just the wrong motivation. And they too are prone to getting carried away with the pageantry of their demonstrations as opposed to what they are supposedly trying to say, just like the Left. Plus they aren't all that organized or focused.

We do need change, but I have no clue how to accomplish it. I would like to think there are ways other than an uprising that could put people's lives in danger. And since the population of the country is so divided in their ideals, the people can't really rally together as one. Whichever side of the political spectrum manages to accomplish change is going to leave a good half of the country disenfranchised.

What needs to happen is that somebody needs to go Washington and slap all the politicians around and get them to stop playing games, and treating the party system like some rivalry that matters more than the lives of the people they represent. Republicans need to stop demonizing Democrats, and Democrats need to stop demonizing Republicans. As long as they keep up this game, not only will nothing be accomplished in Washington, but the population will be at each others throats as well. And there can be no change for the greater good of the country while the people who can actually create change all hate each other and label one another as being either on their side or being the enemy.

As it stands, any uprising would actually be uprisingS, and be more of a Civil War than a revolution.

Well, that's not going to happen. At least not until Jersey Shore is in re-runs again.

It'll never happen. Too many are dependent on the government.

But if it did, rest assured the TEA Party (the original not these new TEA-O'Cons) will be leading the way.

The only way you'll get the lazy to do anything is to cut off their welfare checks.

  • I'm not waiting for any sort of revolution as I feel that the so-called grass roots of America are every bit as greedy and arrogant as their elected representatives. I suppose the positive in this is that if the US eventually falls, most of the developed world will go with them which is bound to make more than a few people happy.

    Yep.

BUT... does the people of this country actually have it in them to take to the streets? Sadly, the majority either don't care enough or are just plain lazy.

If it's thoroughly corrupted, than it's because of corrupt individuals that the American people put there. We don't need an uprising, we need to vote the right people in. Even if there was an Egyptian/Libyan type uprising, what makes you think we Americans wouldn't put the same type of people back in power?

because said uprising would overhaul the electoral system ...

And after everyone goes Egyptian, guess what people are going to want? elections. And they'll vote the same people in because a large chunk of voters are swayed by shiny things and false messages that bring them comfort. Money will buy the shiny things and the corporate candidate. The whole ball of wax doesn't need to be changed, but money needs to be much less in the equation.

that can't happen right now because if you're a moderate candidate, you don't stand a chance. both sides pander to the extremes. as much as politicians are the problem, so are the morons who support the extreme ideologies.

I'd say Obama is a moderate. The Republican candidates are more extreme, first of all to differentiate themselves from Obama, and second, because were all supposed to be in a panic and they are going to save us.
