I feel a little bit like a horses ass. About a week ago I started a thread about getting choked up listening to Army Reserve. All these people wrote in about having lost loved ones. NOW I feel THEIR pain any my heart goes out to you all.

Still, there is something very healing about listening to the music. It helps purge all the feelings sometimes. Feels like a very heavy weight has been lifted from your shoulders when you listen to a song that describes just the way you feel.

    100% true.

When we experience loss, we often feel alone with our pain, we act like we can deal with it on our own.. but even the toughest of the tough break down at a point. To be able to listen to a song and feel comfort, and feel like you are not the only one, and that you will get through it... that is priceless.

    Hey all!

it's amazing how this music, this particular song can mean so much to us, us who lost their loved ones, our best friends whom we will always truly miss.
on 27 Oct. 2009 my mom passed away. she was 58 and my best friend. i know this sounds tacky, but can anything related to real friendship be actually tacky?
she knew a bit of pearl jam's music thru me. she could recognize Ed's vocal and PJ songs with what she was embarassing my dad at times:) but when "Into The Wild" came out, it became her favorite record of all times! weird. we played the whole album at her funeral. ironically, my dad came with this idea.
ever since listening to this record is like talking to my mom. and so is listening to "Come back".
now, as the Ed's solo DVD came out, i wish i could watch it with her..
again, thank you Ed and thank you Pearl Jam for the music thanks to which i could spend so many great, moving moments with my best friends.
i hope you will find as much comfort in this music as i did.
    peace, people!

I was fortunate enough to be in Chicago in 09 where I got to hear what I feel is the trifecta of emotional Pearl Jam songs live at the same show.

    Long Road
    Come Back
    Man of the Hour

Such a great experience and amazing at how a few song can reach inside and stay with you and help get you through the rough times.

My grandfather just passed away this past Thursday. He spent three weeks in the hospital, the last 2 weeks as hospice. NEVER spent a day in his 92+ years of living in the hospital before this. Between his 9 children (and spouses), 25 grandchildren (and even more spouses) their were a lot of different emotions as most of us were visiting him every day. I dealt with alot of my emotions through Pearl Jam and a particular song. I rather not ask how but it just works. It just works. He was the King of our huge family. Did I mention he had another 23 great-grandchildren?! He will be missed. Thank you Pearl Jam.

I've heard this live a few times and it's one of my favorites from the Avocado album. I hope they play it at PJ20

Yup, exactly. Pj is my therapy. Every situation from losing my dad to my divorce, their music has helped me heal. Nice to hear from people who get it. And on sorry to you all who have lost someone, especially recently. my thoughts are with you all. As cliched as it sounds though time does help heal. My dad's been gone 10 yrs and whole I still miss him achingly, it hurts a little bit less each day. In the meantime, continue w the pj therapy :-)

The best threads, like the best songs, often spring from personal pain and hardship. This is a good thread.

It hit me so hard just now.

    Ugh. So Painfully beautiful.

If I hear this on Sept 3rd or 4th... I would smile so much. So many on this board can relate to this.

    I love you, Pearl Jam.

Agree! This song reminds me of good friends/family I've lost and reminds me of how special life and our family/friends are.

Thanks for that story man, sorry bout your grandfather... COMEBACK hits me the exact same way everyone on here has described... its a beautiful beautiful song... I fell in love with it immediately... I have a family just like that and have gone through that a little myself... I have a grandfather now im extremely close with who is 84 and i treasure every single time i talk to him and get to see him these days... your post above will make sure I continue to do that... Much appreciated

If I could create a band in my head and have them act and conduct themselves exactly how i would like... that could NOT compare to what Pearl Jam does and how they do it... Its truly just an amazing thing to be a part of... I always thought as I got older and started really building my own life and family that my Love for Pearl Jam and the amount of time and money I spent on them would mellow...i couldnt be more wrong... with every year, every tour , every album and every interview they do.... my love and respect and admiration for this band just continues to grow... There has never been and never will be a band like PJ...

Thank you thank you thank you
