How are RHCP live? I haven't seen them yet but i have a chance this december. I'm not a really big fan of their latest work, especially not a fan of the latest single from the upcoming record...

I dig "One Hot Minute" though...

Should i go see them live or not?

My biggest draw to RHCP was John, really loved his style. Without him, I have no desire to go and see them at all... shame really.

funny you should say that, i love their music, and never seen them live, but from footage i've seen, i've no desire to go see them live either.. maybe, hopefully i'm wrong, and they are a good live band

Can't speak for the current lineup obviously. They were pretty good when I seen them in 07 or so. I thought they coulda benefited sound wise from a 2nd guitarist. Keidis was pretty dull, but the other 2 guys were dancing around getting pretty wild.
  • Keidis has always seemed flat live. But Flea and Chad Smith are just ridiculous. I could listen to Chad Smith play drums all day...

I have seen them three times in Spain ('94, '99 and '07) and is the band that has disappointed me the most live, with or without Frusciante. None of their shows was more than 1 hour 15 minutes, that hour was amazing, but just 1 hour?

I saw them in 2006 in Columbus. I left the show really disappointed. They jammed entirely too long between songs. They could have easily fit in 4-5 more songs for the setlist. Then, for the encore they came out wearing University of Michigan outfits (the show was at the Ohio State basketball arena) and played the Michigan fight song. The crowd boo'ed as loud as if Lloyd Carr walked on stage and gave everyone the bird. After that, they played Under the Bridge and left. 2 song encore, boring show. They won't get my money again.

I've seen them twice. Once was a free show and I was front row, the second was at the ACC in Toronto and I was 6th row. The one at the ACC was very disappointing. Anthony was surprisingly crappy live. and he was actually shy it seemed.

And they didn't play a single song off of One Hot Minute...so there's that too...

I've seen them several times. Sometimes they are ok...I don't think they've ever been bad. When they toured with Muse and Foo Fighters they were only the 2nd best act on that stage and the Foo Fighter SUCKED.

Then I saw them in 2007 and it was a GREAT show. The best I had ever seen them. Sounded great and was a party atmosphere. I'll miss John though and unsure if I would see them without him.

Seen them when Foos opened up. Not a good combo for the RHCP, the opener isn't suppose to be the best band!!!! Gave them another chance at Lollapalooza, with the same results. Great CD's not live tho

So the verdict is in...looks like the chili peppers will be playing in empty arenas next tour!

What the hell...are you serious? Why would they do that?

i've seen the chili peppers twice. i thought they were fucking incredible both times. not sure why they get such a bad rep. however, that was with frusciante, who is one of my favorite guitar players ever. i still imagine they'd be cool to see live though. anthony keidis really can't sing very well, but the guys in the band playing instruments are all top notch. great show.

I've seen them once, and it was awesome (i think 2006).

I am a huge fan of Chad Smith on drumms, and Flea is always amazing. But I love Frusciantes guitars and backup singing as well, so I dont know how they will be with the new guitarist, but I would check it out if they were coming close on tour.

Anthony Kiedis is from Grand Rapids, MI so maybe that's why they did that.

I saw them in a unique, intimate setting at the top of the world trade center (food court, one floor below the roof). They were not particularly tight sounding, and when I listened to the soundboard audio the next day, it was even more apparent. ...but I don't think that show was when they were technically on tour, so maybe they lacked some practice.

It was a private radio show event. Very small. Couple hundred. Literally in the lunchroom area where there were windows all around. "Tallest Concert In The World" or something, from KRock. I used to work with the two large NYC promoters, and we were asked to produce the show up there. ...and RHCP's management I had worked a ton for them with another band, so when they wanted to leave before the show ended they just asked me to take the recording from the soundboard after the gig and got it from me at the hammerstein a few days later. I gave it a listen for a few minutes. I don't recall it sounding too good... then again, it was recorded in a lunchroom. I think I have the handwritten (before I made copies of it) setlist at home somewhere.

Yeah, but why would you want to alienate a paying audience of potential album buyers.

    Strange.

I remember checkin setlists around the time I seen them and while it was about a half hour short of your standard PJ show I remember them changin up quite a few tunes from show to show. Honestly I was expecting a pretty canned show before I checked that out.

I have only seen RHCP once, on the Stadium Arcadium tour. They were awesome. I have heard they are hit and miss though, but our show was A+ I will see them again.
However, they do rely pretty heavily on new material. They play old stuff too like from "Californication" , "BTW", "BSSM", and even dive back for one song or two early eighties. Did "Me and my friends" when I saw them on the SA tour.

They usually don't play anything off "One Hot Minute," but with Frusciante, announcing his departure, who knows? He never bothered to learn songs off that record from what I have heard, as Dave Navarro played on that record.

Anyone like the stuff they did with Dave Navarro?

I really liked it. Should have used another name as it was more rock, less funk, but it was feckin' good imo.

The opener on the tour was the best band because it was MUSE. The Foos sucked and the RHCP were decent.

    seen them in 2000X2, 2002 and 2006

they are not the most amazing live band ever, but Im a big fan. REALLY hoping this album is okay with no frusciante in the mix. the last time i saw them I was second row at an arena show, the seats got torn the fuck up and it turned into GA pretty quick. they did an AMAZING, UNREAL end jam at the end of the show with the guitarist from Mars Volta, it was insanely good him and frusciante trading off. and as mentioned, flea and chad are SICK!!!! purple stain is wicked if you can get to see that one live, great jam.

Go see them, you gotta see them once at least!

seeing them surprise open for pearl jam two nights in a row in 2000 wasnt bad either! ;)
