I think his strategy will include the "YES! WE! CAN!" speech again and again.

    Ageed. About the Kerry part.
Rick Perry on the other hand will deliver a serious Obama smackdown!
Or Mitt, I will take either.

Ive said it before, so here you go....

RICK PERRY WILL WIN THE PRESIDENCY IN 2012.

Forget about the fact that he's a mormon. It's the same tactic the GOP used against Kerry in 2004.

except it's the gop base who are uncomfortable with him being Mormon. The Dems won't have to use anything against him.

Rick Perry, Michelle Bachman, etc., are this election's version of Mike Huckabee. I was a registered Republican last time around and I attended my local caucus where everyone there was swooning over Huckabee (well, except for the crazy people shouting RON PAUL). And I got up and spoke to the fact that John McCain was the only viable candidate who could stand toe-to-toe with Clinton or Obama. I was right, the conservatives were wrong, and McCain might have had a slim chance up until the moment he selected Sarah Palin. After that it was just game over.

    I call bullshit.

Perry will enter the presidential race undefeated, having never lost an election in his three decades of working in government.

You remember Sam Brownback from 2008? (I only do because the POS is my governor) Same scenario. The field is already overcrowded with social conservatives. And Rick Perry will be just another egotistical flash in the pan of American politics. Besides, I don't think we're ready for another semi-literate governor from Texas.

If the GOP goes with a social conservative instead of a fiscal conservative, I predict four more years for Mr. Obama.

He's a Republican in Texas. You tend to win those races. A lot.

Perry very well might win the GOP nomination. In the general election, where you have to appeal to a wider swath of people, he's going to struggle to explain how he now wants to be president of a country that a year ago he wanted to secede from.

Also, his religiosity -- which has created some strange bedfellows with the Houston prayer rally event -- is going to to cause some problems.

Perry's greatest selling point: The Texas economy survived the recession much better than the rest of the country. It is arguable how much Perry actually had to do with that, but it makes for a good campaign ad nonetheless.

Fair or unfair (mostly unfair), this typecast is something else Perry will have to work to overcome. Perry is not GWB, and in fact, the pair squabbled often when GWB was governor here. There's been some talk Perry won't win the GOP nomination because former Bushies (aka Rove) will mobilize to make sure it doesn't happen.

Perry is far more fiscally conservative than Bush is, and was openly critical of Bush's fiscal policy when Bush was in the White House.

There are hundreds of reasons Perry shouldn't be president but "he's just another governor from Texas" isn't one of them. In fact, it's borderline offensive for people to say that. It would be like saying, "Obama's been such a disaster, we don't need to elect another black guy."

There's about 100 of them on this board. Mingle...

Do you honestly not read the way Christians are persecuted on this board by gays and non-believers?

If i used similar rhetoric to describe the gays on here, I'd be banned fatser than Kat can say Yes We Can- same for Muslim rhetoric.

Christians are consistently persecuted here- and peace lovin', tolerance preachin' self-described hippies on this board turn a blind eye. All day everyday.

If I were on the President's team (which I have been in the past), this is what I would focus on. The far left is upset with him, the far right is upset with him...so he must be doing something right that the average American voter agrees with. His numbers with independents are right where they should be going into 2012.

Since taking office, the economy has grown. Unemployment is still at 9%, but that's a tough number to bring down. The stimulus has proven to create jobs and improve the country's crumbling infrastructure.

All the President has to do is run a down the middle campaign and he will win. When you're running against a fractured party that no one can center around...the work is being done for you. Run down the middle and the President will get another 4 years.

    Refreshing. You're exactly right.

The President's numbers with Independents has the President shitting in his pants. I would love to see some facts on your assertions. Would also love to know what position you occupied on which "President's Team".

I'm gonna guess, Clinton, and Secretary of State.

His numbers ARE down with independents. I didn't say that he had high numbers, I said that they were good for 2012. IF the Republicans get their shit together and can fully support one candidate (which will not happen), at that point Obama should be "shitting in his pants" about independents. If the I's have a choice between a down the middle incumbent and a radical right (or left)...they play it safe and go with the incumbent.

I don't have to explain to you how far back I go with the President.
