Obama's re-election campaign/strategy

First of all, he is going to constantly repeat "Look, I inherited this mess. Don't think it's going to fix itself overnight. We have a lot of hard work to do. Give me four more years to continue banckrupting this country"

The Obama campaign are planning a "ferocious personal assault" on Romney's character and business background.

"Unless things change and Obama can run on accomplishments, he will have to kill Romney," a prominent Democratic strategist aligned with the White House said.

They are going to hit Romney where it really hurts: They are going to make fun of his jeans.

Now Democrats close to the Obama campaign say they'll focus on Romney's denim makeover--as a part of a larger attempt to play up what they describe as Romney's "weirdness."

In a statement issued this morning, Romney campaign manager Matt Rhoades called the Obama strategy "despicable"--though he wasn't just talking about the coming attacks on his boss's jeans.

"It is disgraceful that President Obama's campaign has launched his re-election with the stated goal to 'kill' his opponent with an onslaught of negative and personal attacks," Rhoades said. "President Obama will say and do desperate things to hold onto power because he knows he has failed."

I think his strategy is going to consist of shrugging his shoulders and saying, "Don't look at me. You voted for those idiots in 2010. I'm just trying to clean up the mess."

for sure he will say that he is just trying to "clean up the mess". His trying no worky.

He will no longer have the HOPE, PROGRESS, CHANGE etc crap to fool the fools. He will have no accomplishments to speak of. He will be in the midst (probably) of a double dip recession that will sting harder than the first. He will have 9% unemployment. He will have....to get a new job.

The question is, who gets pinned with the blame for those things. I'm betting that the House GOP and Tea Party will be Obama's ticket to a second term.

he doesn't have to do much because of what the right is offering up as competition.

of course he could just point to the Dow and the jobs which have greatly increased since he has been prez compared to how Bush left it. Little things known as facts.... that the right ignores as they throw their toys out of the pram

I actually think Obama delivered on his promise of Hope. Think back to the post-2008 election days, and the days following his inauguration. There was hope in the air. A hope that America sorely needed at that moment. The GOP and the Tea Party took the problems that led us to Hope For Change and turned them into fear and anger. The are the Sith Lords of American politics.

Forget about the fact that he's a mormon. It's the same tactic the GOP used against Kerry in 2004.

and will yield the same results for Romney. John Kerry lost because he was a poor choice for a presidential candidate.

    Ageed. About the Kerry part.
Rick Perry on the other hand will deliver a serious Obama smackdown!
Or Mitt, I will take either.

except it's the gop base who are uncomfortable with him being Mormon. The Dems won't have to use anything against him.

Rick Perry, Michelle Bachman, etc., are this election's version of Mike Huckabee. I was a registered Republican last time around and I attended my local caucus where everyone there was swooning over Huckabee (well, except for the crazy people shouting RON PAUL). And I got up and spoke to the fact that John McCain was the only viable candidate who could stand toe-to-toe with Clinton or Obama. I was right, the conservatives were wrong, and McCain might have had a slim chance up until the moment he selected Sarah Palin. After that it was just game over.

And once you get past that, it's just Romneycare vs. Obamacare. Romney's too similar to Obama. And also probably the most viable candidate.

Reading all these political posts, puns and jabs, I get to thinking one of three thoughts:

    1) PLEASE UNIVERSE, let 2012 be the Mayan end of politics!

    or

    2) PLEASE BRAIN OF ME, don't fall into politcal apathy!

    or

    3) DAMN, I think it's time for a margarita!

    Today, it's hot, it's damp, it's choice #3!!

If the economy is still in the crapper a year from now, I don't see how Obama gets re-elected. It would be unprecedented in American history.

I think his strategy will include the "YES! WE! CAN!" speech again and again.

Perry will enter the presidential race undefeated, having never lost an election in his three decades of working in government.

You remember Sam Brownback from 2008? (I only do because the POS is my governor) Same scenario. The field is already overcrowded with social conservatives. And Rick Perry will be just another egotistical flash in the pan of American politics. Besides, I don't think we're ready for another semi-literate governor from Texas.

If the GOP goes with a social conservative instead of a fiscal conservative, I predict four more years for Mr. Obama.

He's a Republican in Texas. You tend to win those races. A lot.

Perry very well might win the GOP nomination. In the general election, where you have to appeal to a wider swath of people, he's going to struggle to explain how he now wants to be president of a country that a year ago he wanted to secede from.

Also, his religiosity -- which has created some strange bedfellows with the Houston prayer rally event -- is going to to cause some problems.

Perry's greatest selling point: The Texas economy survived the recession much better than the rest of the country. It is arguable how much Perry actually had to do with that, but it makes for a good campaign ad nonetheless.
