What a great Kat-ism! I love it. Excellent idea!

Have a great day... everybody! :D

Please do. You're all capable of making wonderful, thoughtful posts with great discussion. I've seen it. There are a lot of things deserving of deep discussion and I've learned a lot when you're on the high road, making those dazzlings posts.

    Thank you for that too.

i think the high road also includes showing some tolerance ... if everything that everyone found the slightest offensive was banned - what kind of forum would this be?

as contentious as this forum is and as bottom of the barrel it can become - i am happy that i haven't been banned ever nor ever reported anyone to the mods despite having some crappy things thrown my way ...

i feel like good threads are being locked now simply because someone isn't getting their way ... yes this discourse could be better but i really don't think it is that bad ...

I agree 100% with you. however, i do believe that people can express their points without the insults. i do also believe that while the mods are an important part of the board we as adults must also monitor ourselves.

where i work, if someone has a complaint, we first go to the person we have a problem with and if that doesn't work then we go to the supervision and i think we should do that here.

    I've never reported anyone.

I've been given a timeout once I believe for a couple days to a week. I don't even remember why.

It seems that it sometimes takes some of that "low road" discourse to get to the high road...more so with some people and more so with specific topics. And I'd agree with you polaris, if you cut the road off while its on it's way, you never get to that highroad and you start all over again in another thread. ;)

It's the internet and it's typed words, it can take a hour to get to a place when a conversation over a beer would get you there in 5 minutes.

I've never been banned never contacted the mods and won't... I don't contact anybody :?
just reply to pms sent cause I'm shy ....

I'm ok with who I am and can take the high road, not always easy when people are mean.
Since recent stuff I learned just not engage if people insult me
seems to work the best in the end, it was good advice... thank you.

I don't like getting into trouble with the mods they scare me :? sorry Sea and Kat ....
    just silly me

Hey I think I might stop quoting people too cause then they feel compelled to write back and
    get personal.

Actually, to be technical, it didn't even last past the OP since you questioned it as the first reply. Nicely done!!!

Not sure which thread you're refering to but what I think the moderators are saying is not that we shouldn't have strong opinions or radical ideas or push the envelope of thought but that we don't make personal attacks on other board members. It's one thing to have strong feeling for or against an idea and another to make attacks or use name calling. I'm pretty sure it's the latter that we are being asked to avoid.

For those of us with strong convictions, it's easy for us to get our buttons pushed or to want to lash out against those with whom we disagree. For example, if you're very concerned about environmental issues, in your inner dialog you might think people who don't care about the environment are generally full of ... (you get the idea). BUT, saying that here or on any forum or even to anyone in person gains you nothing. Instead, maybe try to work hard at making sure you know what you're talking about and try your best to present counter ideas. It's easier to make a difference by educating than it is by belittling. I even think, in the long run, it feels better.

Others issues are less pragmatic. For me, race and sexual preference predjudice is totally wrong. I'll come to the defense of anyone I know is being attacked for such reasons. I'll call someone on that sort of thing big time but I won't call them names or be abusive in return.

If I ever forget to follow my own thoughts here, I hope someone here will call me on it- please, just don't call me a jerk (I hate that- just ask my wife! :D )
