After some consideration, I think Reload is my favorite album.

Pumped for the Charlotte show in October.
growing up in the 90s with MTV, I might agree.
i'm guessing you are probably in the minority.  I personally didn't care for ReLoad that much.  The songs i did like off ReLoad were mostly the non-singles like Low Man's Lyric and Carpe Diem Baby although I dug Fuel also.   Load I liked a whole lot better though.

Outlaw Torn.....listen to it. Best way to end an album.

INTRODUCING BLACKENED AMERICAN WHISKEY... WHISKEY REMASTERED

    Aug 29, 2018

It’s not often that we announce a brand new, never-been-done-before Metallica endeavor, so we’re incredibly excited and super proud to introduce Blackened American Whiskey. Those of you who are whiskey connoisseurs may have heard some rumblings earlier this summer as we’re honored to partner with Master Distiller extraordinaire, Dave Pickerell, to create a unique blend of straight American whiskey available in select U.S. cities later this week and online at thinkliquor.com or spiritedgifts.com.

This collaboration is the perfect match. Legendary in the spirits community, Dave is a chemical engineer who has revolutionized the distilling processes with techniques like solera aging and triple-finishing. He experienced the power of soundwaves during his time as a student and then a Professor of Chemistry at West Point, home to the world’s largest church organ. When the lowest note would reverberate through the halls, “the whole building would tremble, it would really shake your guts,” Dave says. With that in mind, “Blackened” isn’t just the name of a song on …And Justice For Alland now on the bottle; it literally helps to shape the flavor! That’s right, the blend of bourbons, ryes, and whiskeys from all across North America, carefully selected by Dave himself, is housed in black brandy barrels and inundated with low hertz sound waves so intense that it actually enhances the molecular interaction and ultimately the finish of the whiskey.

We are fortunate to have a long-time collaboration with Meyer Sound, who have engineered a proprietary subwoofer that amplifies the low frequency sound waves and all the planets aligned. It just so happens that the low-frequency range needed for Dave’s vision was the range you hear in our music and the process of sonic-enhancement we call “Black Noise” was born. A patent-pending process, the playlists that we create helps to shape the flavor of the whiskey.

And you guessed it, the soundwave that fronts the bottle comes from “Blackened” and we’re pretty sure you know why the inaugural batch is labeled 081. Each batch of 5,000 bottles of Blackened American Whiskey will come with an accompanying playlist at blackenedwhiskey.com and on Spotify and Apple Music.

Blackened will be available in stores, restaurants, and bars surrounding a handful of U.S. tour dates this fall including our first stop in Madison on September 2nd. If you’re in the area before the show on August 30th, stop by the locations below, meet Dave and pick up a bottle and swing by our pre-show party at Wando’s on Sunday. Keep an eye on blackenedwhiskey.com for more events in the near future and use the locator to see where you can either sip or carry out Blackened American Whiskey for yourself. You may order online at thinkliquor.com or spiritedgifts.com; please note that unfortunately all states do not allow delivery of spirits. "Sport the Blackened American Whiskey logo on a T-shirt, hoodie, hat or beanie, available now in the Met Store.”

The ultimate goal with Metallica is to connect with our fans through recordings, through concerts, and increasingly through any other way that further creates a bond. We want to show the world, and in this case especially the whiskey connoisseurs, how seriously we take this endeavor. We are obviously not just slapping a Metallica label on a pre-existing mediocre whiskey, but have been working on this for the last several years and overseeing every detail from the first idea to your first taste with careful precision. The ultimate goal is to make a whiskey that fits into the Metallica experience and sets itself apart from all the others. We can’t wait for you to taste it!

Strange that whiskey is being branded and sold by a band with two recovering alcoholics.

Went to the show last night in Madison, show was fine.  Metallica played their basic 18 song set, mostly focused on Hardwired songs.  Still had a fun time.  Wish they would do a 25 song set list and start a bit earlier with the prices of their tickets as high as they are.

The part I disliked the most was at the outdoor merchandise stand, some 'fans' bought six to eight posters and then they were immediately posted on eBay.  Seems that this is happening with every big band and their posters.

  • Attended the Madison show.  First time seeing them since 1996.  Was blown away!  Their fans put PJ fans (at least in the USA) to shame with their interaction and excitement!  The entire stage setup was cool as hell!  They have invested a lot of money into it.  The mix of both new and old songs was great as well!  I highly recommend anyone to catch this tour!

  • Does anyone have any merch pics? Going tonight and like to decide what I'm buying before I get there. All I've found is a side view shot from Minneapolis where I can't really see anything clearly.

damn, didn't win.  They were giving away tix every hour so that was like 4 opportunities.  Only about 20 or so people showed up and each one so had a semi-decent shot.  Oh well, might look for a cheap ticket on stubhub or something as the date draws nearer.

Seeing Metallica this spring (first time) I'm a bit disappointed their return to Sweden next summer is still under the "Hardwired" banner.

Would have hoped it would be something else and the show as a result being "shaken" up.

I guess I'll still go though, being in my city and all - but I don't feel the need to see them drum in unison again. Haha.

They've been known to tour for 2 years straight promoting the same album.

As for "mixing it up"?  They change a song or two in the set list, nothing crazy.
  • Bought tickets.

Hoping for WHEREVER I MAY ROOOOAAAAAM

I just watched 'Some Kind of Monster' for the first time last week. What the fuck? It seemed SO put on by the band members - except for James's addiction of course.

listened to Hardwired for the first time last night. Maybe I wasn't in the right headspace, or maybe since I'm not really a metal guy anymore, but it just sounded a lot of the same. one track kind of blended into another. Then again, I'm like the only person on the planet that actually liked St Anger though.

    St. Anger is really underrated.

Bought tickets for their show in Finland next summer. 109 euros for the Golden Circle. Not that bad.

But what is interesting their "Black Ticket" is only 598 euros. It gives access to as many shows as you want, in the Golden Circle. And they haven't even sold out on those yet. Imagine if Pearl Jam offered something like this. Seeing Metallica once or twice is more than enough for me though.
