that's mine too. I wish they did that version of "Speed Wash" more often. I think that was the only time they did it, no?

  • Kansas City 2003. I was in graduate school and skipped my only class that summer (Ethics) to be in the 10c line. Got a speeding ticket on the way there. Ended up like 5th in line and after waiting nearly 7 hours in the sun, got front row tickets to the show. Gates open. EV comes out and plays "Dead Man." We were so close I could see the Doc Marten label on his shoes. By the time the opening act comes on it's pouring down rain. So much so that we're standing in about 3 inches of rain that didn't seem to be draining out anywhere.

Pearl Jam takes the stage and the intro notes to "Release" come through louder than I've ever heard before. It's pouring down rain and lightning is everywhere. Ed gets to the "oh, dear dad, can you see this now" lyric and a huge flash of lighting comes though. Perfectly timed. Ed says "hi dad." Chills. Absolute chills. So close you could see how hit Ed was at that moment. He closed his eyes tight and just belted out the song like I've yet to hear him again. I challenge anybody out there to find a more finely sung version of "Release."

Show's over. Sunburnt, soaking wet shoes, that completely JAZZED feeling you have after a show. Showed up in that Ethics class 2 days later with my shirt from the show. Professor looks over and says, "missed you earlier this week, how was the show." Got a "B" for missing just that one day, but it was worth it.

I highly recommend the 2003 KC show to anybody on here. A short, but sweet set. I sent a review to Five Horizons and they ended up using most of it, paraphrasing a bit.

I have not heard that boot but would love to.

Fave moment from a boot = Oct 30, 2009, show 3 of 4 at the Spectrum (closing shows) in Philly. The band finishes 'Given to Fly' and Ed marvels that he didnt think that he had ever heard that song sung so loudly before.
Loved it! <<btw, out of the tons of boots I have listened to this is probably my favorite show. If you don't have the 2009 set or the 2009 Philly 4-pack it is out of this world kick-ass.>>
The love he receives is the love that is saved

My favorite moment from any boot is the Daughter tag at the Pittsburgh 2000 show, a killer bit of Bull in the Heather by Sonic Youth.

Hawaii 78 and the local crowd recognizing it. I didnt know a thing about it the day of the show, and only learned later what it meant to the native hawaiians. Gives me the chills every time I listen to it.

Actually, the entire Honolulu 06 boot gives me the chills. I'm listening to that on the way home for sure!

    Thanks for the chance

don't know 92 so I'll go with favorite moment of any boot I've heard so far.. 1998 West Palm Beach first show (9/22/98). the end of Daughter has what sound like wolf howls in echo. then Ed starts singing about Hyenas in the tag. Don't know what song it's from, and I'd imagine those howls beforehand are actually supposed to be hyenas. anyway it's real cool. thanks Hugh Freaking Dillion. who is that avatar picture of by the way?

it's of Hugh Dillon. He started out as a Canadian musician; lead singer of one of my favourite all time bands The Headstones (my former band-The Dime Sized Drops-takes it's name from one of their songs-Dripping Dime Sized Drops). Ask any Canadian on here. They know and/or loved them too (and they recently reunited!)Then they broke up and he went on to star in Flashpoint (the bald guy-Ed Lane) and also Durham County. He was the lead in one of the best mockumentaries of all time, Hard Core Logo.

speaking of Sonic Reducer, my boy, Hugh Dillon, does a version of it with Swamp Baby on the Hard Core Logo soundtrack. I'd strongly recommend listening to it.
