I saw them live years ago - maybe somewhere around 03 or 05? Can't remember, think it was on an Ozzfest stage or something. Anyway, I do remember they put on one hell of a live show - enjoy!

Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

Yes you do! I've seen them 5 times and they've never disappointed. Saw them open for Metallica on the Death Magnetic tour, but IMO they blew Metallica away.

I used to be a really big fan but I haven't kept up with them at all lately. I seen them open for Metallica as well and I did enjoy the old songs that I knew but everything else just kinda sounded the same. Phil mentioned Dime a lot the night that I seen them. I don't know if that's a normal thing for him or not, but the show was in Columbus where Dime died so I thought maybe that had something to do with it. The crowd didn't really seem all that into them but every time Phil said Dime's name, the crowd popped. It made me feel like he was only talking about Dime to get the crowd hyped. I might be wrong, but that's how I took it.

Yep - Kirk Windstein from Down and Jamey Jasta from Hatebreed are in Kingdom of Sorrow. If you haven't checked out Crowbar, do so - Kirk's in that band too and you'd definitely be into it.

Phil mentions Dime all the time no matter where they're playing. I can't decide either whether it's just to get the crowd going or not. He's a strange bird that's for sure, but to me his diatribes add to the show.

Just announced a show here in SLC too. Super excited... one of my favorite modern metal groups as they aren't repetitive and obnoxious like a lot of metal that is out there.

I first saw them open for Metallica and Phil hit himself in the head so many times and so hard he started bleeding. Finished his set too... what a bad ass.

  • I've seen Down 7 times... got a Down tattoo... and used to live with some folks who know the band... They're great and all but I dunno, last time I saw them it was a bit too much 'The Phil Show' and they're set was sooooo similar to the last few times i'd seen them. I think it's time they put it to bed for a bit and went back to their own projects.
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

You know, I remember it was what, 5 years between Nola and Down II, and another 5 between Down II and Down III. I think you're right that all that time in between made it more exciting and special. On the other hand, I'm insanely obsessed with Phil, so he could play a show in my area every night and I'd never get sick of it :D They played the HOB in Chicago a couple years back and I was excited that they closed with Nothing in Return as opposed to Bury Me in Smoke for once.

Down IV is apparently in the works I think... I never saw their DVD they recently released, "Diary Of A Mad Band"

Love Down! Nola is my favorite, then Down II.

Favorite songs are Pillars of Eternity, Life, Jail, Stone the Crow and Lies, I Don't Know What They Say But...

I hope/wish Rex get back in and is in better health!

Down III I was not found of. Hopefully 4 is back in the saddle!

I have to say that I was not too impressed with the show last weekend  Most of it wasn't Down's fault - the place it was at was full of total d-bags and I think I'm getting too old to deal with that kind of crap. They started about 45 minutes late, so the show seemed to be cut short. They played the regulars - Stone The Crow, Bury Me In Smoke, Lifer...but they played Pillars of Eternity which I've only seen live once, so that was pretty sweet! I think at the end of the show Phil talked more than they played, but that's kind of par for the course. Best joke of the night from Phil: "Kirk's like a mix between Kimbo Slice and Billy Joel"

The coolest part was seeing Pepper, Kirk, and Jimmy hang out with the crowd before the show. Such cool guys!
