This was a really good read.
"You can have as many debates about gay marriage as you want, and over the last 22 years of campaigning for it, I’ve had my share. You can debate theology, and the divide between church and state, the issue of procreation, the red herring of polygamy, and on and on. But what it all really comes down to is the primary institution of love. The small percentage of people who are gay or lesbian were born, as all humans are, with the capacity to love and the need to be loved. These things, above everything, are what make life worth living. And unlike every other minority, almost all of us grew up among and part of the majority, in families where the highest form of that love was between our parents in marriage. To feel you will never know that, never feel that, is to experience a deep psychic wound that takes years to recover from. It is to become psychologically homeless. Which is why, I think, the concept of “coming out” is not quite right. It should really be called “coming home.”"

Godfather.
Did you even read the article?
yes I gave it that much...then I looked at the wedding gallery and got that sick queezy feeling in my stomic
sorry man this stuff just grosses me out,I can't even imagine this sort of thing in my life.
Godfather.
the US i would suspect has the same proportion of gay people as many places that allow gay marriage ... this whole issue is ultimately about human rights ...
chadwick.
p.s. dont be a homophobe
those ppl are idiots

Where I'm not ugly and you're lookin' at me
HAHAHAHA ... who gets that? You aren't married are you?
Now if your Ugly and Gay, i truly feel bad for you.
this site is turning into a gay support site...I just don't get it, if a man wants to marry another man it aint my business but that's not the reason I came onto PEARLJAM TEN CLUB, so if your asking me to embrace and support gay sex and or marrige your waaaaaay off the mark,I don't care to read about some dude's boyfriend
or how cool you guy's think it is that these men are coming out...or coming home
I have been pretty tollerent and did my best to keep my comments to myself but it seems that nobody else will
when it comes to other thing's that I or some others support or believe in on here.
Godfather.
A sick queezy feeling from pictures of people getting married? Wow. Maybe your imagination is just too good I guess. :P
Actually, the pic #9.. or 9/10 I thought was a great picture. I felt you could see the joy and happiness in their faces.
I have a cousin who is gay. He is a very intelligent, funny, amazing person..and imagining that anyone wouldnt want him to get married is just sad to me. I felt this article was really good because it made me wonder what a gay person really has to go through. Though I'll never really know, it is saddening.
I found this interesting too:
"If you’re a heterosexual reading this, have you ever considered for a millisecond that your right to pursue happiness did not include your right to marry the person you love? And that is why, over the centuries, the U.S. Supreme Court has upheld the right to marry for everyone, citizen or even traveler, as a core, inalienable right, bestowed by the Declaration of Independence itself. The court has ruled that the right to marry precedes the Bill of Rights; it has decided that prisoners on death row have a right to marry, even if they can never consummate it. It has ruled that no limitations may be put on it for anyone—deadbeat dads, multiple divorcées, felons, noncitizens. Hannah Arendt wrote in 1959 that “the right to marry whoever one wishes is an elementary human right … Even political rights, like the right to vote, and nearly all other rights enumerated in the Constitution, are secondary to the inalienable human rights to ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’ proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence; and to this category the right to home and marriage unquestionably belongs.”"
that's some funny stuff there !!!!!

sorry Bro it means nothing to me.
Godfather.
Maybe just try to stop imagining them having sex bro.
Ever imagine your parents having sex?? its a disgusting thought, sure, but you wouldnt be here if THAT had'nt happened. Just because it seems gross to you doesnt mean certain people should not be allowed the same rights as you. I think dirty people are gross, and it makes me queasy to think about old, saggy, fat people having sweaty sex, but it doesnt mean they shouldnt be able to get married.
I respect your opinion, and i'm honestly not trying to change it, but maybe you're thinking of sex too much! lol!
Not being incendiary... based on your language here it is an unfortunate fact. The THOUGHT makes you "queezy" in your "stomic." Do blacks make you feel that way? Women in the workplace? Where does your bigotry start and stop?
ohhh man brother that's got mee laughing my ass off "and it makes me queasy to think about old, saggy, fat people having sweaty sex,"

you may not be your mothers brightest child.....wtf does Women in the workplace or Blacks have to do with ANYTHING I POSTED.....
Godfather.
I think it has to do with human rights.
besides tax ramifications/social security benifits/health care what is the point of marriage?
marriage is nothing but a sham that the .gov forces on your to potentially save a buck in taxes, or get more back come retirement....this goverentment sponsored sham is than carried over to the private sector to allow you to share your health benifits with a spouse. its a scam
they charge you to get married
they charge you to get divorced
you may not be your mothers brightest child.....wtf does Women in the workplace or Blacks have to do with ANYTHING I POSTED.....
Godfather.[/quote]
I used women and blacks as an example of subgroups within a population that used to be discriminated against and *hated* in this country and still are elsewhere in the world, similar to the way gays currently are. As man EVOLVES into a brighter, more accepting and loving race we hate fewer and fewer subgroups.
The hatred for things we don't understand or aren't "normal" is typical mammalian behavior found within monkeys and other lower primates. Lower primates also throw shit at these subgroups, while slightly more "advanced" primates use ink excreted on paper (or a computer screen) as their form of shit that they throw around.
At the end of the day, one has to ask himself; "am I a ma ma ma monkey being controlled by my 2 million year old instincts throwing shit at things I don't understand or am I a person who wants to evolve into where we're all going; LOVE?"
"With our thoughts we make the world"
Nope. Livin' in sin for the last 11 years. Just because it's something that we haven't done, doesn't mean other people shouldn't be allowed to experience it. Out of all of our "core" friends, Jamie and I are the only couple still together. Some of our friends have already been divorced TWICE, and we're only in our mid-thrities. We're mortgaged DILDOS (Double-Income, Little-Dog-Only's). Seems to last longer than marriage nowadays. Although with the rate we're paying it off, maybe Jamie is trying to get rid of me sooner than later!
Godfather. What. The. Hell. I thought you were a higher-evolved member of the species. It's not like anyone's asking YOU to do it, so what do you care? You prolly live with 50% gay couples in your neighbourhood already. The only thing it's done is bring the property value up. If you want it to keep going up, you should be next to move out.
I have an idea. Godfather, why don't you post a pic of yourself, and we'll all imagine you having sex. If 2/3rds of us get queasy, we'll pass a constitutional amendment banning you from getting married.
I'm not getting a gay marriage, an abortion, or planning a trip to the Middle East, yet I feel as if I'm going to get constant updates and news on these issues for the rest of my life.
a picture posted of me......you know what they say right ?....beauty is only skin deep but ugly goes clear to the bone, a picture of me would change your life
Godfather.
easy fix; don't watch/read the news. It doesn't concern you. That has helped me immensely.
When I get the urge to read the news, I stop and remember it's just going to say; "THE SITUATION IS DESPERATE AS USUAL"
Godfather, its OK to be gay. It really is...
It's OK to be republican too....
To be denied the right to marry the person you want to commit the supposed rest of your life with
IS unconstitutional and the laws should be changed and fast.
