I always thought In Utero was better than Nevermind. But those are all great albums and there were plenty of others, too.
  • I would say soundgardens badmotorfinger is more important than superunknown

IMHO - Live has no business being on that list, and it would be better to compare STP's Core to the others because it was from the same time period, and it was their breakout album, just like the other albums on this list.

Having said that, most of us were introduced to Pearl Jam by Ten. It obviously has stuck with us, seeing how we are paying to be members of this site 2 decades later.

I put Nirvana in because you have to, but they were honestly always that other band that everybody else listened to for me and I just didn't get it...Love Unplugged and some select songs, but I feel the talent and complexity of the music in a number of other "grunge" surpasses Nirvana.

I agree with you Gremmie. I've just never "gotten" Nirvana. Their music has never done anything for me and I find them to be VERY overrated. PJ and SG (in that order) are also my 2 fav bands from that period.

    Lol. Not true at all.
Nevermind and the MTV videos for it was one of the first things that got an entire (extremely wide) generation of "kids" in to "alternative" culture and in to screaming losers with guitars and addictions.

Honestly, while i "kind of" get all the anti-nirvana \ kurt hating, because in reality it WAS\is overblown ... i don't (in my heart of hearts) understand it at all. Kurt wrote DAMN fine pop-inspired post-punk music, and positively affected MILLIONS of kids across the world. Wanting to trash all that just because it wasn't important to you, or because you think you are too cool to fall for the "hype" is just ... well ... not cool, in my book.

    +1 FOR THE BADMOTORFINGER COMMENT.
    Best "grunge" album there is.
    ;)
If I was to smile and I held out my hand
If I opened it now would you not understand?

I love Core, brilliant album. Both Purple and Core are 2 of my fav albums ever. ;) I love Morphine too. I know they weren't as popular but they were awesome.

Did I say it wasn't important to me? Did I say that I didn't listen to Unplugged in NY over and over again when I was 12-13? Did I say I did not have a huge awesome Smashing Pumpkins Tonight Tonight poster on my wall opposite my bed for several years? Because I did. I'm just saying I don't think people would be talking about Kurt Cobain had he not died. However I see 13 year old kids today who have the Nevermind smiley face on their jeans in pen. Outside of this message board most people don't think about PJ nor do they think they still tour.
