Pearl Jam drug use

Just out of curiosity, has anybody read or heard about any drug use from the band since it's early days? I know Dave Krusen had a problem with booze and was basically asked to leave the group. In an early interview Eddie flashed a shirt to the camera that boldly stated "DROP ACID". Was it a joke or did he partake in psychedelics?

Lol it's just a question. I've wondered the same myself, just because a lot of other bands have drug stories that have been made public (i.e. Metallica being deemed "Alcholllica"). There's a difference between being nosy and being curious. I have no idea....Severed Hand is about psychotropics?

Ed talked about Some in Rollingstone a few years ago

Hardly " the bands private life" if he's talking about it

I'd say all the answers you need are in the band's lyrics.

Stone has been in High Times Magazine a few times, including this article

    http://pearljamhistory.no.sapo.pt/PJArticles_Interviews_08-xx-95_-_high_times.htm

There was another one I read somewhere that really didn't focus on the drugs, but the journalist commented on being in a studio with Stone and he was smoking, I want to say it was some guitar magazine. Normally I wouldn't comment on what they do in their private time, but Stone has discussed it openly, or allowed journalists to discuss it on several occasions. Granted, this was back in the 90's, I don't know or care if he or anybody in the band still smokes pot.

Ed has said in the past he used to smoke pot before some shows. And he's always got a bottle on stage.

Mike had some drug problems that he took care of in 95, I believe.

Boom is always high. ON LIFE.

Ed talks about his "ecstasy phase"
In the June 2006 RS article

He says he tried to record some techno :)

Who knows if he is full of it, but it's a good read

yeah, this is a delicate subject. pretty sure it will be locked though since it's talking about the band's life, no matter if they talk about it or not. maybe if we stick to already documented cases where the band members willingly talk about it and no speculation... but still, wouldn't be surprised at all if it got locked.

Eddie had a long rant about weed in Hartford earlier this month. And then outed Glen Hansard as a smoker, too.

    Mike is happily sober.
Stone is an enigma, but we know he's a pimp.
Eddie and Matt are both happily stoners.
I tried to buy some island kind off of Boom in Hawaii but he told me we were on the wrong island for him to score, so we smoked a joint of ours with him in consolation.
We know Boom shares the love with Matt and Eddie.
Matt asked a friend of a friend if he could score some weed when I was in St. Johns.
    That was funny.

Pretty sure everyone but Mike drinks,
and that Eddie will still do anything recreationally if he's in the mood. He's admitted several things publicly in recent years (the MDMA\techno thing being one, Severed Hand being some vague psychedelic reference, and over in Holland he said if Caleb (KoL) ever offers you a pill, don't take it - some sort of pharme, i think ... he was pretty fucked up that show ...)
and Jeff is probably too burnt to do much other than bake down these days. lol
    (sorry Jeff)
    :D

Pretty sure NO one is doing the H anymore.
    That would just be dumb.
I know someone in the band has a nose for something or other, but I wouldn't dare say more.

    Now ...
Go ahead and lock it Kat, sheesh.
    ;)

During the latest ev solo tour, Ed mentioned spending all day to get to a certain state of mind and wondering why everyone was going to sleep. So he grabbed a recorder and some headphones and recorded the ocean, before stumbling into some sticker bushes. Oakland 1. But that sounded like drunken tales. (He played that ocean track in the background during a uke song at the show, and said he had to cut the track short, about the 3 min mark you hear him go, "Ow! Fuck! What the...")

At Seattle 1 he was talking about pot and made it sound like he had stopped awhile ago. If he could tour with Ben Harper and pull that off, bravo! Ben has been pretty open about....

But as rock stars, I'm sure there is a natural inclination to heavily suggest it, portray the lifestyle. Keep up the act.

As for relying on their lyrics, please, I'd put money down that none of them are seeing dragons.....

As we all know, Eddie drinks a lot on stage. Mike finished with drug problems sometime around 2000 (before Riot Act was released). The latest thing I know is an interview Matt gave to one famous Greek music magazine called Pop & Rock, while they were rocking Athens back in 2006. He said: We are all older now, we are parents and we cannot take so many drugs as we did in the past. According to the magazine, that statement was followed by a big laughter.

All due respect, Fixer, I notice you make PC statements about the band, like you're the PR Mgr. or a blood relative. And your not the board moderator, but I wouldn't doubt that you narc on people here.

Who cares if people are curious about this, especially since the members of PJ publicly talk about many private subjects - drugs, relationsips, et. al.? Get a grip, and get off your soap-box.... And I do mean it when I say all due respect.

I think it's actually a good thing to know about the band though I can also understand how it falls under the privacy issue of their lives. But the fact that they lived through it and seem like reasonably intelligent nice guys; it could be inspiration for people that suffer drug addiction.

I'd say all the answers you need are in the band's lyrics.
The first 5 songs on Backspacer kind of give you sense that the names of the songs are about drugs, Gonna See My Friend, Get Right, The Fixer, Johnny Guitar & Just Breathe. Anyone else ever thought of that?
