It is for sure, but you can't go wrong with Boxer, self-titled, Alligator or Sad Songs For dirty Lovers either :)

Yeah I love them too. I found that Bloodbuzz Ohio is a great work out song. Whenever I'm running, I have it set as my "power song" so when I need that extra push, I put that on.

I love this band dearly! They have quickly become a favorite band of mine over the last year (having not discovered them until last summer with High Violet). Just got the Cherry Tree EP on vinyl and it sounds so good!

Thought I posted in another thread for this band earlier, but sometimes the search function for this forum doesn't work all that well.

If only. I think they've only played here once in 2005. Bum deal.

There are at least 2 - 3 other threads about these guys in this forum ... becuse I know I've pulled the whole "use search" post on others that started ones up. And I've posted pics, etc etc etc.

DC - High Violet is a great album, but I gotta admit, I think it falls short of Alligator or Boxer.

And let's not forget the first two albums. I love the self titled album even if it's got more of a country twang than they've shown recently (probably why you'd love it DC). Beautiful Head is probably one of my favorite songs, completely fitting as the first song on the first album ...

And Sad Songs ... hell, Available is right up there as one of my faves as well.

I'm in Boston that weekend, it's a quick trip so I haven't been able to commit to this concert, but it's on my short list of things to do.

I'll admit, I've yet to venture into their earlier stuff. I listened to a bit of Alligator last night via Grooveshark and I enjoyed it. I noticed the difference in the sound on that record and that of Boxer (which I agree, is fantastic). It's very cool that they have, at least for the most part I think, had a hand or complete control over producing their records... gives them all a genuine feeling.

I'm in serious need of getting new music, I haven't for a while... the list I've compiled is getting to be quite large. :)

The National may be the greatest band of the last 5 years. There's your bold statement of the day. Every album thus far is a masterpiece in its own right.

Not too bold for me to stand behind.

They're excellent. Definitely a band that I think get's more rich in sound and emotion with each release. Boxer and High Violet are my favorite records from them... there is just something about the atmosphere on those albums that do something for me that no other band has done.

"England" has been on repeat for me lately, it's a magnificent song.

The layering (if that is the right word) on High Violet is phenomenal. I hear a little something new everytime I listen to it. And Boxer is a rich, wonderfully diverse album. I love the National.

The set was the tightest I've ever seen them play. In seeing them 4 times by now, 2 inside and 2 outside. I had said before on another National thread that these guys sound the best in a small indoor venue, but Harborlights (5000) capacity was perfect for them. They have come so far as a band since I first saw them in 07. I've never been a huge fan of High Violet, but they killed several of those songs which I was never too fond of. They went deep into the catalog, playing a few songs from the first two records. Slow Show, Abel, and Anyone's Ghost were big highlights for me. That, and the most beautiful girl I've ever seen in my life was sitting right behind us with her friend, so my buddy and I made friends. Fun times.
