The Arlene Schnitzer hall is an old Paramount theater that's been renovated and boy is it beautiful inside. What a great place to see Ed and Glen. I was really excited to hear Walking The Cow as the opener and it just got better from there. But I'm skipping ahead.
Glen Hansard is as amazing as everyone who's seen him has been saying he is. His first song was Pennies in The Fountain and in the middle of the song, he clarified that he's saying "Pennies" and not "panties" which was hilarious. This led to some stories about a particular gentleman's club he frequented last night and being amazed that it was "that easy" and then mimed showing off the goods and comparing to an Irish girl pulling back her sleve slightly. Really good set and enjoyed seeing him.
Ed was spot on. I believe there was really only one flub that I can think of. Blue, Red, and Grey was awesome and after that and Walking the Cow, I felt like we were in for a treat. Some other highlights include him describing Chris Cornell trying to make the ukulele "sound evil" ending in Chris "puking off the balcony" . . . "I guess the uke won" This and a story about a guy who got his penis cut off by his wife and then destroyed in a garbage disposal and Ed reading the guy identified as "John Doe" and worrying that it was THE John Doe.
Long Nights, You've Got to Hide Your Love Away, ARC, Tonight You Belong to Me (first time this tour I believe) made for a very memorable night. It'll be difficult to top at the 2 Seattle shows. Time for bed.
Oh and our 10Club Seats were front row Mezzinine and afforded a wonderful view of the stage.

2. Golden State with Corin Tucker was brilliant.
3. Thanks Scnitz ushers for being so vigilant about forcing people to keep the phone's off during the show, especially the technology addicts who kept trying to sneak them out to record after being warned repeatedly (I would have thrown them out after two strikes).
4. Except for the frizzy-haired woman standing up and trying unsuccessfully to skake sexily in the front row of Dress Circle D, blocking people's view behind her, the audience members were respectful of each other.
5. Eddie had a fantastic way of shutting up the meatheads shouting out song requests: "Yeah, scream all you want. But you see, my dressing room in the back has this big sign that says 'conductor's suite.' The means I'm in charge. Don't worry yourself, I've got you taken care of." (The Schnitz is home to the Oregon Symphony and Ed was in the conductor's suite back stage.)
6. I'm buying Glen's album
7. I was very happy with my 10 Club seats (dress circle D, fourth row, looking right down on Ed)
8. 2 1/2 solo set
9. Great stories from Ed
10. I want that rug.

Check out "Wild Flag" if you haven't yet.
After following the tour day in and day out and hearing some bad stories about seating, I was very happy with the 10c when we arrived to find we were in Orch, Row K. Hands down the best seats I've ever had. The random awesomemness of the evening started within a minute of sitting down when my wife spotted her supervisor from work three rows in front of us! Neither of them knew the other was going to the show. We chatted for a few minutes about how me (and her husband) are both PJ nerds and long time 10c members. So, two psychologists were brought to the show by their PJ nerd husbands.
Having already been a fan of Glen Hansard prior to the tour, we made it a point of coming out early for his set and MAN is he amazing. So much talent, passion, humor and sincerity. I would pay that much to just go see him to a full set.
In between sets I found myself wondering what special guests might be in the building when right on cue, there's SNL and Portlandia's Fred Armisen talking in the aisle ten feet from us. I've never been that into Sleater-Kinney, so I didn't realize it till later that the girls he was talking to were Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss.
Eddie's set was perfection. As an avid set list follower, I couldn't help but have some songs that I was wishing for and he really delivered. Getting to hear Blue, Red and Grey was awesome. Thumbing My Way has long been one of my favorites so hearing that was a treat. Just Breathe was (like many people I'm sure) the song my wife and I danced to at our wedding 363 days ago, so hearing that live was very special. As well as Rise. My Dad's wife passed away unexpectedly 6 weeks ago and I sang Rise at her memorial. Given the new context for my wife and I, hearing that song was very emotional. Immortality was great and finnalllly I get to hear Arc and it blew me away. Having all of the lights out and just hearing Ed layer his voice like that is incredible.
The encores were pretty much like an epic good time campfire. The mood was extremely joyful and the music just reflected that. Everyone was standing for the majority of them and the connection between audience and performer was strong. Speaking of audience, I was very proud of my home city. After reading about many nightmare concert goers on this tour, from what I could tell, this crowd was near perfect. A few random yellers, but even they only yelled every now and then. And when they did, Ed "The Conductor" knew how to handle it, after someone yelled out Dirty Frank.
Anyways, I've gone on way too long. But in short, it was a magical night that left me grinning from ear to ear when my head hit the pillow.
Thanks again, Ed, Glen and friends.

it's just me"
+1 (except I didn't have 10C seats for this one, but will Sat night!)
Anyone going to the Seattle shows and haven't yet heard Glen Hansard - YOU'VE GOT TO GET THERE TO SEE HIM! He's amazing.
Also, to the people that sat behind us talking and wondering if Ed was going to "play anything they know", THANK YOU FOR LEAVING EARLY.
Yup - if you look at the list of Ed's Gear in the "Sniper" program, at the bottom, after all of his guitar and amp equipment, it says 8' Persian Rug "Courtesy of Jeff Ament"...and his stool courtesy of the Texas State Longhorns, from their locker room!
As for Ed's performance, I was expecting a lot and he did not disappoint. Loved Walking the Cow to start. Only five uke songs to start, including Can't Keep and Blue, Red and Grey. Uke set to (sort-of) start was great and certainly didn't seem too long to focus on the uke. For me, Blue, Red and Grey was the highlight of that portion of the set.
I am Mine was incredible. Really awesome syncopated strumming. A foreshadowing of things to come for sure. Not a huge fan of Thumbing My Way but it was better than expected. Would have hoped for something else instead but it was fine. Ditto with Just Breathe.
Then Ed began the Into the Wild portion with 5 songs in a row. All were fantastic. Each one stellar. Loved them all.
Immortality was incredible. Definitely a highlight of the night for me. Great start to winding down the first set. Wasn't too huge a fan of Unthought Known but Ed really nailed it. Arc was unbelievable. I have no idea what he does with the looping, but I loved it. I was worried he'd skip Arc - I seem to recall him not playing it a couple of times this tour? - but I loved it. Very impressive.
Encore to start with the banjo. He wasn't really sure of playing it and then asked if he should play it and didn't wait for an answer but ran over to grab it and went into If you want to Sing Out. He had the crowd clap the beat and after two or three false starts - all his fault for setting beat too fast or too slow - he played it. Love the song, really love it. But the banjo didn't really add much for me. And I'm not saying I didn't like the version because I did. It's just that the banjo didn't really do it. Maybe the volume was too low or something. Or maybe he was sort of strumming it (sort of) rather than really finger picking like I'd expect with a banjo. Anyway, cool song and glad I heard it.
Then came the only two (minor) gripes of the show. Really had no desire to hear You've Got to Hide Your Love Away or Elderly Woman. Fine versions but I'd much rather hear pretty much anything other than those two (somewhat tired songs in my view).
Golden State w/ Corin was cool except nowhere near as good as 2009 at Clark County Amphitheater. They destroyed the 2009 version and this one was only okay. And Ed cut off/stole Corin's verse, which didn't help. But the song was great - just not as good as I (luckily) experienced before. Tonight You Belong to Me w/ Janet Weiss was AWESOME. Rusty to be sure but really awesome. Then he brought out Glen for a few songs which were great. You could hear a pin drop during Sleepless Nights. Falling Slowly was, somewhat surprisingly, perhaps my favorite song of the night. Really really really great. Porch, as always, was killer. The crowd was standing for the entire first and second encore. Hard Sun was really great with all four of them having a great time. I know some can't stand her, but Corin really nailed it.
Great show. Great set list that I can only take cheap exceptions to. Good crowd for a seated show. Not too much yelling or DB'ery which, like the fears about seating from earlier shows/reviews this tour, had me a bit concerned. I think the show ended just before 11.
After listening to PJ for 20 years, it was the perfect show to finally get to share the music with my father, who grew up on Neil Young and James Taylor. Glad Eddie played Immortality. Got to point it out to my dad and say "See, that's the song my band played at that acoustic show back in high school!"
I haven't listened to them before. I have already listened to the new Corin Tucker's music project (The Corin Tucker Band) but not this. Maybe, because I'm mainly a Corin's fan.
The ushers were handing them out at the end of the concert as you exited.
I didn't see them either but I did see people looking a them.
Must have been in a box somewhere, ushers were too busy looking for cell phone to hand them out.
well actually, carrie was in town, just busy shooting her show "Portlandia". bet he tried to snag her for a quick reunion, but shooting schedule is tight.
don't be jealous....just be envious. it was a really great show, great set list...i'm sooooooo appreciative of it all.
