try rooting for the pirates. :fp:

obviously, this year is off to a decent start (4th best record in baseball), but long long ways to go.

 I hope the Bucs don't start trading away prospects. I'll really believe if they are still in contention in September.

i don't think they will. maybe some lower level prospects for a rent a player, but i can't see them trading an A level prospect

i think they will hang around this year, unlike last year's post all star collapse. imo, pitching is better and the offense is more mature. nice to see them winning games by more than 1 run. offense has been solid the last month or so.

I think the Pirates should trade away what they have to to make a run this year. Whats the point of keeping prospects if/when they pan out and you can't keep them? They are in a very winnable division this year to get to the playoffs. Go get that stud pitcher and maybe a bat or two and let your balls hang out. It's like the perfect storm for this team.

There really is nothing worse then reading about teams that dont spend money but want to keep their prospects. When the fuck was the last time the Pirates even had a winning record let alone the possibilty of making the playoffs? This team should go for broke.

1992 was the last winning record. :fp: last year they were in contention until post all star break

i disagree. they have some stud pitching prospects comeing up in a year or two. McCutchen is locked up for a bit and most of the other key palyers are young and under team control for the near future. no need to rush things. it's on the right path. trade low level prospects for rent a players, but don't mortgage the farm for a 3 month rental

1992 is also the last time I could have had a slim chance of kicking Bond's ass as well

As someone as a backroom fan of the Pirates because of the Andy VanSlyke connection they need to push forward now. Prospects are just that. They come and go. How many "prospects" have the Yankees traded away that actually did anything and they were some of the most hyped in the game at the time. It's just in my eyes a very winnable division for them this year and they should go for it. They haven't had a winning team in 20 years? Trade away the prospects...go for it. :fp:

Exactly, they have some great pitchers in the farm system. They just paid Mccutchen decent money, so I think they will spend money.

Andrew is signed thru 2017 with a club option for 2018. dude is playing like a stud right now. i hate to say it, but he reminds me of a young bonds. not the biggest guy, but he hits for average, power, can steal bases and plays a solid OF.

Pedro is starting to hit...or at least hit for power. be nice to see his average come up a little.

Cole and that other guy that went to KC for the future prospect game are both on the way

i was pissed a couple of years ago when they traded xavier and bay and what's his name, but those trades are turning out good, if only because xavier was always hurt, bay is sunk to average and what's his name was just Mcclouth was just cut.

i just wish we would get a few more pirate games on tv out here.
