I would love to hear I'm One live. Ed does such a great job on that one. Very jealous of those who were there.
It's nice to be nice to the nice.

This show was amazing. Really liked the venue. Brain Damage was a highlight for me, as was Mike at the end! :D

Great show but I must say that I believe the crowd bailed early. Weirdest ending to a Eddie show I've seen...Ed and Mike play Led with the lights on (awesome crowd vibe) and then they proceed to walk side stage behind the curtain with no typical Ed ending thanking everyone. I honestly believe they would have done a 3rd encore if the crowd wanted it. A younger crowd might have gotten that third encore with Mike and Ed rockin' more PJ.

Either way it was a great show...Society was da shiznit.

I agree that the ending was a bit strange and that it felt like maybe we could've got another song or two out of Ed. But it seems like he's been playing only 2 songs for the 2nd encore and after watching Mike rip YL with the awesome sound produced in that venue, I was not about to complain.

Thumbing My Way was a treat for me as that was the first time I heard it live. I actually dug Picture in a Frame and LOVED Brain Damage.

I was hoping that they would've done the slowed down version of Lukin. I was at the NYC show on 5/22/10 when he first played it that way and it was haunting.

10 club seats were eh, 9th row of loge, but it really didn't matter. I thought the crowd was intense but respectful at the same time. To see such a unique artist with that sound quality and to hear such great covers...memories I'll never forget.

Can't wait for the U.S. tour announcement....otherwise....O' Canada...
  • It was a really good show. We were in the 1st row of loge 3 so not the greatest but not the worst. Wished we were in the bottom with the more well behaved people :D .

It would of been so much better had the Eastern European slags behind us not been so annoying. They proceeded to: seat squat, take the brightest flash pics, sing horribly to songs the audience wasn't singing along with and talk with each other and on the phone.

I wanted to punch one in the jejunum.

Glen Hansard is the man, sorry to see the crowd missed his set.

Got to hear 5 songs from PJ albums I have been wanting to hear. Ed sounded great and was very talkative.

I saw Cameron Crowe from the loge area on the floor. It would've been nice to chat him up.

Night 1 of a personal 4-show run of EV shows. Have to admit, seeing how the show was in Long Beach, I had no idea what to expect from Ed or the crowd...but both blew me away and far exceeded my expectations. The audience was overwhelmingly respectful to both Glen and Ed AND very into both sets. One could tell Ed was extremely grateful for the great audience, even after the first song, when he thanked the crowd for being "already better than last night" (what happened last night?).

As for Ed's set...wow. His voice has never sounded better, and despite a few flubs here and there, he showed some real chops on the ukulele, guitars, mandolin, and whatever else he played (would have loved to have seen him follow through with his banjo threat, but it's all good). The setlist included some unexpected treats and just enough PJ hits to keep the momentum going. Personal highlights:

    - Without You (personal fav off Ukulele Songs, I identify with this song so much that tears were in my eyes)
    - Sometimes (first PJ track of the night, really got the crowd pumped up, and Ed was intense)
    - Long Nights (best ITW track of the night; the duet with Glen sounds reallllly good)
    - Unthought Known (kicked the set into another gear; quickly becoming an all-time EV/PJ concert highlight)
    - Lukin (have heard this 7 times at EV/PJ shows, but this one was the best)
    - Arc (simply beautiful)
    - Elderly Woman (I will never get tired of hearing Ed and the crowd sing this song in unison)
    - Picture in a Frame (dedicated to a couple near the front who were celebrating an anniversary; absolutely beautiful rendition)
    - Porch (another song that will always be a highlight and will never get old)
    - Yellow Ledbetter (now THAT was totally unexpected...an absolutely lovely moment, one could sense the joy in both Mike and Ed to be able to share the stage and play for the crowd)

This definitely rivals LA #2 in 2008 in terms of overall epicness...and that was my favorite show of all time by any artist. Can't wait to see what Eddie has in store for us at the Wiltern on Friday.

I've been bitten before by lousy 10 club seats. 8/23/09 in Chicago on my birthday no less, I had upper deck seats opposite the stage. This show I was in loge, seciton 5, 9th row (out of a possible 12 rows). So again, not great seats. But I did win the lottery once and got 9th row seats for LA 2!!!

For a show like this, being able to be up close and to see his facial expressions would've been incredible. But the sound quality was so good that you could make out all the words to the songs with ease from where I was sitting.

I look at the 10club as a platform to share ideas about the band and to read comments about shows. It keeps me connected to the band in some way. Plus, you get first look at tickets (if you don't get shut out). I always hope for great seats, but I'm just so excited to be seeing these guys that I don't let it detract from my emotional high.

This will be my only Ed show for this tour and after looking at all the setlists from the others, I feel extremely lucky.

Thanks again, Ed for filling us up with an energy like no other.
  • Ed was amazing (as always) and I loved his mellow, talkative mood. He and Glen Hansard are perfect together when onstage - they seem to have a genuine friendship that resonates.

I called Mike showing up as soon as I saw the Angel Stadium annoucement. I was so happy to rub that in my hub's face! No words to describe Yellow Ledbetter.

Can't say it was the best crowd, though. I went three nights in Sydney and have to say the energy was much better there. I don't know, maybe it was just the lame ass people around me who seemed to care less if they were there or not - which totally irritated me. It's EDDIE VEDDER, people. Do you know what you are experiencing????

I was thinking the same about the ending. Ed seemed kind of hesitant to leave, especially after earlier talking about his day off tommorow...but everyone was bailing.

ARC - man, that was the shit. Second time seeing it solo and this one somehow topped the last. There is nothing more chilling/emotional/ethereal than a darkened stage and Ed's amazing voice - sent me right into fullblown waterworks.

    Can't wait for Friday.

This was my best EV/PJ experience ever. The energy of the crowd, Ed seemed so playful and just on. Tim Robbins and Cameron Crowe were in the crowd, Mike walked by me before the show and gave me a high five. I couldn't ask for a better EV show. The setlist blew my mind. Blue, Red and Grey?! Are you kidding me?

Oh and thanks to Jesse (I think that's his name) for the free upgrade to front row center!!!! Ed walked up to me and handed me his pick after Porch. UNREAL!

WOW> The last 4 songs prior to encore break were stunning.
Falling Slowly was absolutely amazing and I had a hunch Mike would be involved at some point since he is playing at the Angels game tonight - told me buddies before I was wishing against wish for Present Tense but that YL would be even better for the crowd.
    It was.

  • Great show! Ed clearly wasn't as hungover and moody as he was in San Diego. :D

I loved the story where Ed talked about the Uke being such a great songwriting instrument and then he went on to say how when you meet someone and fall in love - you go through the stage of inspiration and you'll write 20 songs..... then somewhere down the road she'll show up at your door step with a big dump truck full of shit and break your heart - then you'll sit down and write 40 songs (that was the 10 second version of the story). Then he went on to play the first verse of Goodbye before abruptly stopping. He then said, "so then you meet someone NEW and then you write This kind of song - and then broke into, You're True.

Yellow Ledbetter was one of the coolest surprises ever. I loved hearing the slower acoustic version... AWESOME.

For all the people complaining about 10club seats - C'mon, really? They told us upfront that there would not be preferred seating for 10 club members. You all sound like a bunch of whining victims and to make matters worse you're whining about something you knew from the beginning.

Oh, the poster was HUGE. It's the biggest PJ poster I've ever seen. The colors in person are a little glittery and it really pops off the print.

Night two of my two shows for the year and it was great. Seems like every time I see back to back shows the second one somehow never lives up to the first, but tonight was in many ways better than SD (although SD had some great moments).

Brain Damage - I'm a huge Floyd/Roger Waters fan, so that was a great surprise.
Picture in a Frame - Second favorite Tom Waits song, awesome to hear Ed sing it. Also cool intro while waiting on the banjo and then deciding to play it for a couple in the audience's wedding anniversary.
Thumbing - First time to hear it live, so very stoked for that (somehow I always find myself singing this when out surfing, don't really know why).
Lukin - Love it fast with strings. Slow version is an interesting one off; I'll take the hard charging version any day.
Arc - Powerful. Really was hoping to get it the night before so glad I got to experience it tonight.
Unthought Know - I never really cared for this song on the album, but it's very quickly become one of my favorite songs live.
YL - In hind sight I guess I should have expected this knowing that Mike was in the building, but still got chills when they hit the opening notes.

The crowd was good tonight...minimal talking during songs and fun energy. The woman sitting next to me in row 10 with the PJ vans was a great seatmate. Cool to see a friend I hadn't seen in close to 10 years sitting two rows in front of me. Also cool to look up at the balcony during one of the songs when everyone was on their feet with the house lights up and see the nurse I was talking to pre-show in SD (she ended up with front row balcony for the second night in a row) rocking out (btw - if you read this, Dana was stoked for the extra ticket last night).

Would have loved to make it to the Wiltern and SB Bowl (why'd my sister have to schedule her wedding this weekend!), but these two nights were excellent so I can't complain.

PS - Pleasantly surprised with the area just north of the venue; I don't spend much time (any) in Long Beach, but it looked like a fun little area. Would definitely come back to see shows here.
    1994 - Bridge School I; 2005 - The Gorge; 2006 - SD & LA I; 2008 - SD II(EV) & Camden I;
    2009 - LA III & SD; 2011 - SD (EV) & LBC (EV); 2013 - SD & LA II; 2022 SD (EV)

Amazing show! the crowd was really into it and so was Eddie. Mike playing on Ledbetter was just incredible. Loved San Diego but Long Beach was clearly the better show.

at the beginning of the show ed said 'hello long beach' and commented that that was the first time he'd ever said that...later he told a story of when in 1992 at the palladium in hollywood they played a show supporting spinal tap and when tap finished their set, derek smalls raised his arm and said 'thank you long beach!':lol:
