Agree with the first 2, but no booze? Why punish the majority for a few drunk assholes?

I can't imagine anyone is going to try and enforce a no cell phone rule at a concert. Turning it on vibrate or off? Absolutely. But, what about parents that have young kids at home and need to be reachable? That's a lot to ask of a crowd to not even bring a cell phone.

The other 2 you could definitely do.

Kinda difficult to enforce the no cell rule. And most venues (and artists) would complain about the no booze, due to the fact that they make a boatload of money off of alcohol sales at shows.

So what the hell did we do a decade ago when most didn't have cell phones??? How did we ever survive!!!

No booze = loss of revenue on the highest marked up product a venue sells = never happen.

As someone who really enjoys the setlist relay threads I would hate to see cell phones banned at a show.

    Exactly....

And go ahead then and serve booze...
    No problem...

But when you leave your seat...
You are not allowed back in the theater until intermission....

It isn't like cell phones have been around for hundreds of years. Couples with small kids used to go to theaters without cell phones. We don't need cell phones.

That's something I would expect already. Most theater venues have a policy that when you leave your seats its at their discretion to reseat you. Hell during sporting events you have to stand at the gate you your section and wait till a break in the action.

The Beacon didn't have that policy, at least not in the upper balcony. people were freely walking in and out, though that didn't bother me as much as this girl with a really bad sounding laugh.

    No he certainly did not.

I have a couple of pics on my phone and my camera from that show (of course I took the pictures without a flash)... and the crowd was so fucking loud you wouldn't hear a cell phone go off anyway...

Mind you maybe it was different for people who were given tickets in the seats for his shows (the seats that never went on sale to the general public and pushed everyone who paid for a GA ticket to the outskirts of the fucking venue).
Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.

    Mr. vedder wants intimate shows...
Then he should enforce the rules to keep these as intimate and 'pleasant'? as possible....

    No cell phones...
    No cameras...
You can leave your seat, but you must wait until intermission to be seated again....

As far as rules towards booze....
    I dont know....

    Mr Vedder?
  • I guess cameras could be banned - but people sneak it in. And you couldn't ban cell phones, just enforce rules not to use them during the show. In this day and age, and with people having lives, you can't stop them from being able to communicate with others.

Booze - limits should be placed on how many you can get at a show.
IMO - from what I've seen at concerts and what I'm reading about Eddie's shows - its these so called drunk fans that are causing a lot of upset. I think that being that drunk at a show is stupid - you'd just forget everything and also end up being rude if you're not careful, with no inhibitions.

But like people have said, for the venue and because of $$$ - which is what it comes down to essentially- booze could never be banned. But limits can be placed and I think they should. I've seen way too much upset at shows just because of booze.

    Well then...

If the majority here believes they need to sell booze....and
They need to allow cell phones...

Then I dont wanna hear you people come on the board the next day, whining and complaining, about how people fucking behaved at the show.....

Talking, consuming beverages, using the restroom, texting (unfortunately), the occasional outburst of enthusiasm when your favorite song is played, clapping...all seem like pretty normal human behavior at a concert.

And if this behavior is considered offensive to some, then maybe they should reconsider the next time
it's time to buy a ticket to a concert.

Black Crowes too on their last tour. No pictures. No phones. They put signs up. People respected it for the most part.

+1..if you want silence in a concert, then buy the bootleg and listen it alone in your room..drunk people are everywhere and can rule your day wherever..people go to see live show for have fun and express them selfs..
ofcourse you have to respect the artist..and not to yell the whole 2 hours like an idiot..

    :lol::lol:

You will never be able to control someone else's behavior, just do your best to ignore it and if they're really being obnoxious, complain to security. Let them do their job.

And my opinion on the cell phone, put it on vibrate and leave it in your pocket. If there is an emergency where you need to use your phone, step out of the seating area and use your phone.

I agree with this. I have seen Eddie solo three times and there have been a few rowdy audience members each time. Most people, however, behave perfectly fine. I think the yelling at inopportune times continues to be a problem at these shows, but I also think too often we are using one brush to paint both the screaming asshole and the poor guy who has to use the restroom during the show.

Couldn't agree more, so next time you buy tickets to a big loud rock concert like, then by all means have at it. But when you buy tickets to a small intimate show, such as an EV solo show, please show some self control... because you are NOT at a rock concert.

actually an ev show is a rock concert, imo
