So what are the Eddie shows really like?

I contemplating buying tickets for Eddie's show in Minneapolis this weekend, but I'm wondering if the show would be worth the steep asking price from Stubhub. Does he have a backing band at all? I've seen the setlists, and I like what I see, but I don't know anything about the shows themselves. How have they been received? Is it literally just him and a uke?

They are a good time. Small venues, great sound. Don't buy from stub hub, you can get tix on here for face value in the GTF and lost dogs forums. And ticketmaster will probably release some in the next day or so.

There's a DVD out that will answer all these.

The 2 I've been to rank among the best concerts I've seen.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

he plays with all the uke songs with a uke but he plays about 6 uke songs, the rest are him on guitar, sometimes with glen hansard(support act) sitting in and playing bass, or guitar and backup vocals,

the show itself is different but amazing

GO, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

But don't pay the scalpers, there are other options. Most likely they will release tickets on the day of the show.

It is basically just Ed and some ukes and some guitars, but it's also part comedy. The man is a great story teller. :D

Uke, guitars, mandolin, whatever. No backing band, though occasionally he'll use the opening act (Glenn Hansard this time around) for background vocals and additional accompanyment on songs like "Society" and "Hard Sun."

You ever do the deal where you and your buddies sit around the campfire or whatever, passing the guitar around and swapping songs and stories or what not? It's kind of like that.

Except, this case, the guy with the guitar is Eddie f'n Vedder.

Because the shows are so small and intimate, and the event is so rare, tickets are harder to come by than a full band show. I'll tell you this: If Eddie was playing a show on Thursday in my town, and Pearl Jam was playing Friday, and I could only choose one show to see ... I'd see Ed.

Guess what I'm saying is ... if you can procure a ticket to the show without putting you or your family in dire financial straits ... DO IT.

yes it's just him and a uke (and guitar and mandolin) and sometimes someone else comes out for certain songs (like glen hansard for long nights). it's intimate and he likes to tell intimate stories between songs (in 08 he explained how the lyrics in Guaranteed "don't come closer or I'll have to go" made his daughter think he was actually leaving her when he sang the song to her one day). he's amazing just by himself, he doesn't need anyone as backup (except maybe his own back up vocals in arc). if you're thinking about going, GO!!! it's amazing and if i could go to them all i would.

Not sure what price that means, and what your financial status is. So, it's impossible to tell you if it's worth it. Only you can decide that.

But, the show itself is incredible. I was at the Beacon II, and it had everything. The beginning is just him and the uke for about 15-20 minutes. But, it's great stuff. Makes the new CD come alive (sorry for the weak wording there).

Then, he'll do a couple PJ stuff, go back to Into the Wild, then "roam around" different stuff. Acoustic. So, it will not be a PJ sound. It will be an EV sound. But, good none the less. They're his words (for the most part), so he obviously does a great interpretation of the music to accompany.

He does use a guitar and mandolin, and eventually switches back to uke (plus organ a little). Brings out a couple people to help him. Always Glen Hansard for a couple songs which are cool. We had a string quartet and was graced with Longing to Belong with the cello.

If you are expecting a PJ show, then you would be disappointed. If you are expecting to hear the words and music in their simpliest, most beautiful form, then you will be beyond thrilled. It's all what you would like. I loved it, as have many others. But, it will not be Mike shredding with a percussion/bass to keep the rhythym. It is simple strings with incredible voice in an intimate setting that sounds awesome (at least to me).
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

The earlier shows were better then this tour i thought . 08'-09'

Even though his guitar work is far better Now . and he looks more at home up there . just like anything else the shows must grow . soon he will have to take his solo shows to stadiums .

Not saying this tour is not bad but felt more commercial ...

more commercial? i thought this tour was way better than 08 and 09. what's commercial about ed talking about his daughters and clarence clemons? ed is so much more comfortable up there by himself.

I have no idea how this tour could be considered commercial in any way? unless you consider Ed's Corona kick box an advertisement.

Meaning !! the people that were not at the 08-09 tour are now coming to these shows . Feels like its getting out of hand ..

i have no problem with what ED talks about on stage or off . OR anything to do with EV

Really reminds me of PJ blowing up . OR DMB blowing up . Went from one kind of fan being there to a bunch of people that look really out of place . ;)

My first show EV show was the Ryman . Hands down the best Venue for sound !!
To a bunch of drunks in Detroit . the standing up sitting down to let a drunk threw gets old . and to watch all the fights was old . I was there to hear the music !!

if you want to experience a truly gifted singer/songwriter in his most purist form (short of the amps) ... this is it ... eddie's true gift is his belief in the songs he sings about ... he just doesn't sing the words to man of the hour ... he sings about opportunities lost and the chance for redemption ...

please don't go if your sole purpose is to rock out to pj faves and drink copious amounts of beer ... for eddie's sake and for your fellow fans sake ... haha

    They are awesome

Don't miss out on Glen Hansard, either. He was very very good.

This comes off as very elitist and extremely douchey.

Ooooh me too. Go if you have the chance! All the fan reviews and the DVD look and sound like it's an amazing experience. I hope he makes the decision to visit Europe for a solo tour once and I'll be able to see him ...

I would love to share my experiences at an Ed show... Unfortunately he has deemed my area of the US undeserving of his music since he started playing solo shows...

Almost 20 million people within a 200 mile radius of where I live, and not a show for any of us to enjoy.....

Houston, Texas... Believe it or not, there are 7 million people here... must be a couple of fans who'd love to see you play.
