i never saw the gorge in person but i have seen the photos and desktop download thing from 10C , like everyone else who hasnt seen the place.
I see that it is an incredible stage and backdrop like no other-
i already pointed out that as far as ambiance it hands down probably beat MSG.
But the sound at an outside venue is going to be dramatically different then that of an indoor arena .
Lights and sound effects also dont translate well outside ( yeah I know pearl jam doesnt even use video screens let alone lightshows with special effects- does the discoball for wishlist count ? )
A much smaller venue- like jones beach, could probably photograph well enough to be compared in some small fashion with the gorge,....an east coast version. I hope and pray everyday, that Pearl Jam never ever play there again . ( * Alltho if they did decide to do another 3 show stint, I'd no doubt be there at all 3 ),....but the outside atmosphere has really gone to hell out there, the place gets bigger and bigger every summer ( they keep adding sections up top that are no question nosebleeds ). Too much croneyism is blatant and in full view. The State Troopers are out in the lots too- so be very careful or youll find yoursewlf in the precinct trailer in the parking lot getting booked. !
Whoever said the sound is pretty much the same at all indoor arenas :
I respectfully disagree here.
Listen to any show you want at the Continental Arena the place is cavernous and an audible nightmare ! The place cant come close to MSGs sound, acoustics, all that jive.
then there are even smaller indoor venues- ( Radio City Music Hall, Beacon Theatre, Asbury Park Convention Hall , The Old Felt Forum , Ed Sullivan Theatre )
One only fdreams about these small intimate shows- probably the hardest to get into and probably sounding the best,....

I really enjoyed the 3 shows at Jones 2000. Like the venue alot.
I think MSG is a better venue only because EV is so excited to be there. Like he was the spectrum.

its not the same venue / place it was back in 2000.
it is a different solar system from what it was , say , like 1985 .
i wanted to add that i hope the garden retains its mystical atmosphere after the forthcoming renovations and modernizations.

I'm assuming that's the rumoured extra show ..but no idea of the date for it is supposed to be (frankly, I can't see it since Mansfield is not even sold out both days...and when in the schedule would they fit it?)
but if it's Stadium, unless I get 10c tickets..no interest... I just don't do Stadiums...being 100 yards from a stage seeing nothing but 'maybe' ascreen, with overblown crappy sound just isn't my cup of tea.
I spose you're not up for another Chorzow Slaski Stadium show?
And Jase, you know you'd like to attend a gig at the Myer Music Bowl. Or the Opera House forecourt or Goat Island in Sydney. The crowd wouldn't be comparable to the Euros, much less the South/Central Americans, but the venues...
Like I said, everyone is gonna be bias and pick their local venues... I saw front row for Tool at the Myer Bowl and it was the worst Tool show ever. And don't even start on Sydney crowds haha.
Seeing a show outdoors is just generally better than arenas. Arenas aren't built for concerts. Concert halls like Benaroya or the Opera house, on the otherhands, are great.
See, that's why I mentioned those 2 places, cos the forecourt is simply a forecourt with the Opera House behind it, and Goat Island is just a tiny little space in the middle of the harbour with the bridge as the backdrop

The Pistoia 'venue' still makes me drool.
and if you come to camden, you can get mugged afterwards, and that makes a concert story to write home about
I'm fortunate enough to have experienced shows all around the world in all types of venues, some good experiences some not so good. I guess my local arena or most frequented arena is Wembley and I can't stand the place, the atmosphere for PJ in 2000 was frankly embarrassing and the sound terrible. When I've travelled to see PJ I've always tried to pick venues that are different, i.e Verona and Salzburg in 2000, I'd never been to an amphitheatre until 2003 at the 3rd Boston show (I thought the sound was good) and I just had an inkling that those MSG shows would be pretty special.
As for the crowds Milan 2000 was hands down the best crowd I've ever experienced and as for Sydney crowds, they're pretty rubbish. I think I can say that having lived there for 3 years, then again us English can be much the same, a bit reserved and snoby.
My PJ shows:
London 28/10/96, Las Vegas 11/7/98, London 29/5/00, Nurnburg 11/6/00, Prague 14/6/00, Salzburg 18/6/00, Verona 20/6/00, Milan 22/6/00, Zurich 23/6/00, New York 8-9/7/03, Boston 11/7/03, Reading Festival 27/8/06, Shepards Bush 11/8/09, Berlin 15/8/09, Manchester 17/8/09, London 18/8/09, Dublin 22/6/10, Belfast 23/6/10, London (HRC) 25/6/10, Alpine Valley (PJ20) 3-4/9/11, Manchester 20-21/6/12, Leeds 8/7/14, Milton Keynes 11/7/14 To be continued....
No offense but I'd rather goto any other show they are playing this tour. I just dont get it.
The bonzai festival i guess it is.
I know nothing about it i just see a lot of proplr talking about it here.
I believe Andrew the (so-called) Legend may have been referring to Bonnaroo rather than Bonzai...if not, I have no clue what the hell he was getting at
All I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow
They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all
i've been to both...and both are fantastic for enitrely different reasons.
some day i would like to experience a concert at red rocks.
me, i prefer outdoor shows....just love the whole vibe. however, i prefer outdoor shows with ample water and restroom facilities. so as much as i am slll glad i made it to the gorge in 2005, nah...not my thing. i loathe portapottys. add in mega heat and porta-pottys.....
however, MSg is a mega exception for me. perhaps being a NYer makes me a bit biased.....but love a NYC show.
and...i have no idea of any rumored added shows......hmmmm......take off for the weekend and miss new rumors apparently.
I guess this is going to be my biggest thread here.
I was making the point that I don't get why the festival show is the most posted about here. If I was doing the entire tour I would skip that show and would be the last one I would choose to attend.

but Bonnaroo will be the best show of the tour and then you have all of those other bands- wow! It's gonna be a damn good weekend- but then again, it's not for everyone.

Why would i do a weekend festival with metallica? Have you seen their fans?
I am doing 5 pearl jam shows in a week including 2 philly and 2 MSG.
If bonzai beats any one of those 4 nights. I will retire my legendary status.
Tibetan freedom festival was great but for pearl jam experiences it is the least of all the shows I have been to.
I don't think PJ has anything to do with the other bands that are playing there...other than Harrybu McCage
And bro, it's BONNAROO

I have seen the band in every time zone in america. 2 coountries. Have done over 20 shows in a tour. Been front row many times. Held up eddie for porch at state college. My legendary status speaks for itself.
I am certainly a legend in my own mind. Instead of the metallicca festival I would have gotten a cheap flight to florida and done those shows.
I would consider going to this festival a hassle and would skip it if going to the southern shows. Which I am not doing anyway.
Not a sermon just a thought.
P.S. have fun all the shows are great its just not my cup of tee.
Really the only opener for the band I really loved was the Sleater Kinney. If i only ever saw pearl Jam and Sleater the rest of life I would be very happy.

Been to alot done alot. both MSG and 3 jones beach 2000 and 2003
Been around. long story as to why my last show was ottawa 2005. but i will be back this tour Philly through NY. I am getting old and it upsets me to not goto VA beach. But i have a full plate.
I have missed naming many shows. That were a great time with great people.
