Paying $400 to Stand Outside the Beacon

Anybody reading this who had been looking forward for months to seeing Ed at the Beacon, and got shut out of the 10C presale, and sweat blood deliberating whether to pay the scalpers' price, and be thrilled tonight when you were finally going to get what you paid for... only to be told the tix were fake???

My heart especially goes out to the young man whose wife had bought the tickets for him as a birthday present.

Pretty heartbreaking.

So sorry this happened. I got screwed last night as well. I couldn't swing spending another $200-300 for a real ticket on Stub Hub so I didn't go either night. Some people are just scum. Only solace is that you aren't alone....a whole lot of people got taken. There is a nice spot place in hell for all those scam artists.

I can't begin to imagine how disappointing that must be for everyone in this situation. Can I ask where people bought the fake tickets so I know what to avoid?

I'm pretty sure, from what I heard yesterday that they were printable tickets purchased on StubHub. I suppose that printable tix from other than the original vendor will not be an option in the future. I use the print at home feature from TM/LN and that's been fine, but StubHub is just "people" selling tix, right? Bad news. :(

Stubhub offers a guarantee for their tickets so I would think it is unlikely that they got them from there. Most I have heard purchased through craiglist. Unfortunate for all.

Stubhub has something called FanProtect Guarantee:
•If tickets are invalid and are not honored by the venue:

In the event the Buyer encounters any problems at the venue, the Buyer is encouraged to call StubHub Customer Service immediately at 1.866.StubHub (1.866.788.2482) for assistance. If the Buyer contacts StubHub from the venue at the time of the event, StubHub will attempt to locate comparable replacement tickets for the buyer. If replacement tickets cannot be found, or if the Buyer was not able to contact StubHub before the event, StubHub will provide the Buyer with a prepaid FedEx shipping label to use in returning the tickets to StubHub along with a Ticket Return Form. Upon confirmation by the venue that the tickets were invalid, StubHub will issue the Buyer a refund for the full cost of the tickets, including service fees and shipping and handling charges.

Seems like this is something that should be addressed with StubHub if it was indeed them they got the tickets through.

The guarantee at least means the money isn't lost - but the heartbreak would still be there.

What is someone supposed to do when tix are sold out and they are desperate to go? Chances have to be taken sometimes.

I have bought from scalpers and ended up in the first few rows, for equal to or less than face value. Sometimes you just have to go for it. I am sure there are plenty of people who bought from scalpers and had a great time tonight. Sucks they had to pay more though.

A member of this board sold me my ticket which I am grateful. However, I was in line for 2 hours at the box office. Had I not bought my ticket I would have still gotten in as the folks in line around me were able to buy tickets directly from the box office. No show is ever truly Sold Out! Don't deal with scalpers, go directly to the source! You almost never will be shut out. And if this applies to a tiny venue in Manhattan, it will apply anywhere! Nonetheless, I'm still sorry to those who were screwed over.

I must say that I was a little mad to see that people who were on the box office line ended up in the first 6 or 7 rows of orch and I was in the loge for the second night though 10C. Not mad at 10C- at the venue. Seats were good anyway though.

What time were you in line? Do they usually sell the remaining tickets just before the show, or the day(s) before, or what? There were a bunch of people waiting in line but we were told no more tickets were going to be available.

Yeah, that's how I felt. I did take a chance and I'm not feeling sorry for myself. I knew it was a risk and I decided to take it. I mean, how often does Ed play a small venue right down the street from where you live? I'm gonna miss that? Maybe there would have been smarter strategies. I think I underestimated the chances of a bad outcome b/c I've had surprisingly good experiences in the past.

Does this happen with every show?

I wanted to think that if Ed knew we were standing out there having been duped, he'd let us in-- but he'd probably say 'sorry but that's what you get for dealing with scalpers.'

I'm pretty sure Stub Hub etickets are legit, but it still doesn't stop the individual from selling multiple copies of it via other sites, etc. First one to use it gets into the venue, the rest are screwed.

Thats why I never go for etickets, just too much risk.
