20th ANNIVERSARY OF NIRVANA’S “NEVERMIND” ALBUM CELEBRATED WITH A DELUXE EDITION IN SEPTEMBER
Nirvana, the trio comprised of Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl, hailed originally from a coastal fishing town in Washington and rose to become one of the most influential rock bands in history with irreverence, intense honesty and an overriding passion. The cultural shift Nirvana’s Nevermind initiated was felt instantly on release -- and the profundity and depth of that shift becomes even more apparent when seen through the prism of the two decades of art and music created in its wake.
Released in September of 1991, Nirvana’s Nevermind garnered near-unanimous praise and rose within a few months to the No. 1 slot on Billboard’s U.S. sales chart. Nevermind was propelled to No. 1 across the globe by their young fans worldwide that identified with the band and embraced their anthem "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and its landmark music video. Since then, it has sold more than 30 million albums.
Nirvana changed the course of popular music forever and remains an inspiration to those who have followed.
Today, Universal Music Enterprises is pleased to announce the 4-CD/1-DVD Super Deluxe Edition of Nirvana’s Nevermind available September 19, 2011, in the U.K. and September 20, 2011, in North America. The CDs will include previously unreleased recordings, rarities, b-sides, BBC radio appearances, alternative mixes, rare live recordings and an unreleased concert in its entirety on DVD.
The 20th anniversary of Nirvana will be marked throughout the year, with various events and releases.

interested to see what they throw on it that is not already avaialbe on the net.
Wrong. WTLO sucked because they just grabbed whatever tapes were lying around and stuck them together haphazardly, without doing any research or making any effort to locate original master tapes or anything. They reportedly spent less than an hour looking through Courtney's stash! That's not even enough time to listen and determine what's good!
There is still lots of stuff in the vault including...
- Butch Vig's original mix of "Nevermind"
- Unreleased "Sappy" from "Nevermind" sessions
- 1/1/91 demo session ("missing" when WTLO was put together)
- 4/90 demo session (parts were on WTLO but were taken from cassettes)
- 5/91 boombox demos (mostly unreleased still)
- a few still-unreleased BBC tracks
- their original soundguy's tape collection which has yet to be plundered by Universal
- Courtney's stash which includes god knows what
There should be plenty of stuff left to make a 4-CD set, as long as they search high and low for the original tapes and don't do a half-ass job like with WTLO.
cool. glad I'm wrong on that. cause some of the stuff on WTLO would embarass the hell out of Kurt I'm guessing.

Nirvana Celebrates 20th Anniversary of 'Nevermind' With Deluxe Reissue
Landmark album will be expanded with unheard songs and an unreleased live DVD
Nirvana's 1991 album Nevermind – the epoch-defining record that Rolling Stone has declared the Number One album of the Nineties and the 17th greatest album of all time – will be reissued on September 20th as a deluxe 5-disc edition. The expanded set celebrates the 20th anniversary of the record's original release with an extensive collection of previously unheard recordings, rarities, b-sides, radio sessions, live performances and an unreleased concert presented in its entirety on DVD.
As of yet, Universal has not released a full track listing for the deluxe edition. As it turns out, even band member Dave Grohl isn't quite sure what will turn up in the set. "I mean, as far as content and releases and stuff like that, honestly, it’s like I’m the drummer again. I’m the last one to know anything," Grohl told Rolling Stone. "It’s almost like a wedding anniversary – something that someone reminds you of about a week beforehand, and then you panic and buy flowers."
Even still, Grohl hints at other Nevermind anniversary surprises down the line. "I wouldn’t doubt it if something very special happens – we have a few things up our sleeves. I can’t really say anything yet. But you’ll see. It’ll be fun."

Small Fire in Courtney Love’s Town House
By ELISSA GOOTMAN
A small fire broke out early Thursday morning in Courtney Love’s West Village home, a Fire Department official said.
The fire, in a fourth-floor bedroom of Ms. Love’s town house, at 250 West 10th Street near Hudson Street, was probably started by a candle next to the curtains, the official said. Ms. Love discovered the fire, the official said, although it was not clear whether she placed the 911 call, at 1:52 a.m. There was also a male occupant at the home at the time.
By the time firefighters arrived, the fire was mostly extinguished. Ms. Love had a light burn on her hand, “almost like a sunburn,” the fire official said. She was not taken to the hospital.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it has been deemed not suspicious. The bedroom curtains were burned, the official said, and nearby bed linens were also slightly burned.
After an all-consuming search for the perfect downtown town house, Ms. Love, the singer, actress and widow of Kurt Cobain, decided to rent the West 10th Street home in February, agreeing to pay about $27,000 a month, according to brokers.
The home is described on StreetEasy as “a beautifully renovated and redesigned historic town house” that is “made for luxury living and entertaining,” with three bedrooms, five bathrooms, a 25-foot living room, six fireplaces and a modern kitchen with exposed natural stone. “A must see!!”

The Inside Story of Rare Kurt Cobain 'Nevermind' Photo
On October 28, 1991, just as Nirvana were tearing up the rock'n'roll rule book with their major label debut Nevermind, photographer Kirk Weddle was commissioned to shoot the band for photos to promote the impending blitz. His idea? Toss the band into a swimming pool to mimic the album's infamous naked baby cover image.
But when the band showed up for the session at a Los Angeles pool, they were hardly in the mood. Call time was 10 A.M. The weather was unseasonably cold for an outdoor swim. And Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl were wiped out from a string of West Coast concerts. (Cobain was so exhausted, he even took a nap.) "I remember Kurt was like, 'Fuck! I have to get in the pool?'" recalls Weddle. "He was not a water guy at all."
But Weddle, known as one of the industry's best underwater photographers, was able to convince the band to take the plunge and he snapped some 200 images — many of which have remained unseen. "I've just kept them stacked in a closet, unorganized," says Weddle.
The most striking photo taken from that shoot is a haunting, strangely prescient one of Cobain floating, seemingly lifeless. That image graces the cover of SPIN's August issue, where we look back on the album that changed everything on the eve of its twentieth anniversary.
"I loved the compositional weirdness of the floating head and foreshortened body," says SPIN photography director Michelle Egiziano, who selected the picture. "And this photo makes an intriguing connection between the album cover and a Kurt that not many fans have seen."
Inside our issue (on sale at newsstands July 26 and available via SPIN Play for the iPad on July 19), we take a look back at the album changed everything. Highlights include:
• Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl, R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, Jeff Tweedy, Henry Rollins, Wayne Coyne, Nirvana manager Danny Goldberg, Flea, and others who witnessed first-hand Nirvana's rise reflect on the heady days of grunge and the album's lasting impact.
• Current artists like Girl Talk's Gregg Gillis, the Black Keys, Titus Andronicus' Amy Klein, Of Montreal's Kevin Barnes, Mark Ronson, Thursday's Geoff Rickley, Against Me!'s Tom Gabel, and more open up about how the album impacted their youth — and shaped their future approach to music.
• SPIN has tapped artists like EMA, Meat Puppets, Titus Andronicus, the Vaselines, Surfer Blood, and more to cover one track each from Nevermind. In the issue, the artists talk about the process of tackling Nirvana's classics. The album will be available for free download on SPIN's Facebook page on July 19.
• Journalist and author Latoya Peterson goes in-depth to examine why angst has disappeared from youth culture in a thought-provoking essay titled "Teen Esprit Revisited." What made skepticism, political awareness, and soul-searching so uncool?
• SPIN's Brandon Soderberg on how Kurt Cobain's music, lyrics, and rebellious nature made him a grungy thug lifer within hip-hop culture.
• Nirvana inadvertently helped take the flannel and torn jeans look from the thrift store to the runway. That dalliance with haute couture may have seemed ridiculous at the time, but grunge's come-as-you-are look left a permanent mark on the fashion world.
Nirvana's label Universal is also planning a deluxe anniversary edition of Nevermind, a 4 CD/1 DVD set of b-sides, a live concert, and other unreleased rarities. Details about that edition have yet to be announced, but fans can pre-order the 2-CD version over at Amazon.

Nirvana 'Nevermind' Reissue Details Revealed
By Kevin O'Donnell on July 26, 2011 9:36 AM Comment
Nirvana's label Universal has revealed more details of their 20th anniversary reissue of Nevermind, and the multi-format set is stacked with B-sides, alternate mixes, live recordings, and studio rarities. It will be released on September 27.
The limited-edition Super Deluxe Edition will include Nevermind demos that were recorded with producer Butch Vig at Smart Studios in Madison, WI, plus "boombox" recordings of tracks like "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Comes as You Are," and "On a Plain." The original version of Nevermind was mixed by Andy Wallace, but the reissue will also house the Devonshire Mixes — the album as mixed and produced by Vig. Other highlights include BBC radio recordings, and a live DVD of the Kurt Cobain and Co.'s 1991 Halloween show at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle.
In addition to the 4-CD/1-DVD box and single-CD edition, a 2-CD Deluxe Edition will be available (featuring the remastered album, B-sides, Smart Studio sessions, boombox rehearsals, and BBC sessions), as well as a 4-LP 180-gram heavyweight vinyl version. The 1991 Halloween show will also be issued on DVD and Blu-ray.
Even though Nirvana is one of my all time favorite bands and very dear to me I hardly listen to them anymore unless something new is released....last time was the Live at Reading CD/DVD release
