that comparison has already been tried here...little government intrusion does not mean no laws...
why does it have to be the most extreme example...obviously no one wants a thunderdome ... well maybe uncle ted does...

Well yeah... they do.
But the problem with Tea Party people is that they're extremely selfish. If it doesn't benefit them personally and directly... they're DEAD SET against it. The second that it benefits them... the whole country should pay for it.
If they don't personally gain from it, they're going to stop it at any costs... take gay marriage just as an example... it helps people other than them... has zero impact on them personally.. but most are donating money to stop it. But public roads... oh, they're for that. A library? No... that carries books they don't read.
I love your generalizations, have any more?
So should i think that all liberals want the government to take care of all their needs on the backs of rich people? or should I realize that people think with their own minds and simply portraying them as ignorant assholes and taking it all the way to an extreme doesn't make them ignorant assholes....they just disagree with you...and yes, it sucks that they cannot realize that gay marriage should not even be a concern to them,
I don't know why I bother, I don't want to change your political views, but man you take things to an extreme and throw out any possibility of a middle ground. It is like saying that if you are pro-choice you are anti baby...that isn't true, and neither is saying things like tea partiers don't read books(untrue, actually they are more educated than the average american according to the ny times).

No. That would be socialists. And socialists and liberals and progressives are different things. Which are different from Nazis, fascists and communists. No matter how much people at Tea Party rallies try to tell you otherwise.
Well I agree with that. I hope you said the same things to the guy in the other thread who, when we said having no minimum wage would be catastrophic to our way of life in America, fired back at us that we were advocating for a $100 per hour minimum wage.
Couple days ago The Romney thread got locked b/c someone was making generalizations about an entire group- i.e. Mormons are all ______, or All Muslims are _______, or something like that. Kat posted a message about it.
Calling ALL people, who happen to belong to a larger group, a derogatory word like "selfish" is against one of the millions of rules on the forum.
Oh, wait, you were talking about the Tea Party? Oh, ok, that's allowed. Carry on....
I can't watch the vid at work but it sounds like they are trying to tap in the out-sourcing America is looking for
but American business' don't realize that you only get what you pay for....yet.
Godfather.
no, they're poking fun at the Tea Party mantra that "we don't want the government to do anything for us" which is taken to a rather comedic extreme in this video. It starts out with two people saying they don't to be on a "socialist public beach" and then they talk about how there are no socialist things in Somalia and no Government to get in people's way.
Then they joke about how without any public health monitors, the woman in the video gets Cholera.
Of course ALL Tea Parties don't think that. But being a tea party member is a choice... you're not born into it and it's not a religion in which you're raised (you'll note I just walked away from the Mormon thing, by the way... but I didn't take anything back). People who choose to be tea party members tend, in my rather extensive history of getting into cat fights on the internet, a pretty selfish group who don't want to be paying for anything that doesn't directly benefit them but they DO want the whole country to pay for their roads, beaches, parks and infrastructure.
Dude, those people already payed for the roads, beaches, parks, and infrastructure with their taxes.
they just don't want to be taxed again to pay for healthcare, housing, GM, foreign aid to enemy countries, welfare, bank bailouts, free cell phones for inner-city babies' mommas, "green jobs- whatever the fuck that fairy tale was supposed to be- abortions for teens in Panama, or gov't studies to find out the effects of exercise on sick shrimp, or the effects of cocaine on monkeys w/ hangovers, or a billion other bullshit programs.
check the box on your tax return that says you'd like to pay more. leave my moneyout of it.
And those things need to be maintained. It's not something you buy once.
And paying for things like the high=speed rails would be a brilliant idea.. creates jobs here in America, gets the people moving, makes us a more attractive destination and makes it easier to travel. But the Tea Party people are all totally against it because, I think, it isn't in their own back yard and (let's face it), it would make our current president look good.
Maybe, except for the part about making Obomber look good. Impossible.
YEAH... stuff like that.. PLEASE keep saying stuff like that for the next year or two, OK?
Maybe wear a T-shirt that depicts him as King Kong attacking New York City?
THAT will play well on BET.
-Eddie Vedder, "Smile"
If any leader of the tea party has outlined where they'd like to cut the budget (which programs and how much would be saved), where they'd cut taxes, and how that would affect revenue I'd like to see it. Is there a link?
Of course they do. Tea Baggers love to go on about how they get "free healthcare" by going to emergency rooms and falling down.
No, they want their mortgages lowered.
But they hate foreign cars
Unless it's a Dick Cheney-owned company "rebuilding" a third-world nation we bombed back to the stone age.
Other than tax cuts for billionaires
Unless it's their own bank
Since they're all black
Unless they're cleaning up where we want to fish or swim or live
Which is something you just made up
Until it helps cure the cancer that I got from eating the shrimp I ate out of the gulf that was poisoned by the oil company that I just gave a mega tax cut to..
No thanks. Tired of being the only one to clean up your mess.
How about you hold a lightbulb over your head and see if the whole world revolves around you?
great post...
It's funny that those who hate gov't are quick to dismiss this wonderland of freedom...
But not much of an intellectual.
Leave my hard earned money alone.
Now THAT is funny!! I like that.
You're alright Dorkness- I don't care what Dick Cheney says about you.
Fiscal Responsibility
Constitutionally Limited Government
Free Markets
I know those are some pretty far-right extremist ideas, but take them for what you will.
Your generalizations are ignorant and you have proven your intolerance.
Ok but even the tea party doesn't really want that.
Fiscal responsibility? Since when? They support tax breaks for billionaires, wars we can't afford...
Limited government? Hardly. forcing rape victims to look at ultra sounds of their fetuses, forcing gay couples into a second class citizen status, trying to mandate schools teach bible fairy tales...
Free markets? Few even know what that means. "free" sounds like such a great word. But what it's going to mean isn't what they think they'll get.

Sorry, but this is what comes to mind when one speaks about 'being an intellectual', taken from another thread.
You're very right.
I find it very hard to tolerate people in the tea party with their over-simplified, unworkable solutions to complex problems they don't understand.
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."
You just did it again. You seem to take on this elitist attitude...everyone in the Tea-Party is a gun-toting, backey-spittin' redneck.
Are you suggesting those with conservative values are immediately stupid? In this country, at this moment in history, I would say our problems affect those with leftist and conservative ideals equally. Instead of making these incredibly angry and bigoted generalizations, why not bring something useful to the table?
I didn't mention guns or tobacco. But nice imagery.
No, but not everyone with conservative values is a tea bagger, either.
Wait.... bigoted? Tea Party is a race?
Are people at the Bagger rallies now going to burst into choruses of "Born This Way?"
It's happening in Wisconsin and Florida, really.
In Wisconsin, tens of thousands of people are having their health care taken away because of the clumsy attempt to stop abortions... instead, they closed down a lot of smaller Planned Parenthood clinics where they don't perform abortions and they accidentally made cancer screening illegal.
And in Florida, their governor refused a huge high-speed rail system that would have created thousands of jobs, brought billions into the state and boosted tourism in a state that depends on tourist dollars to survive.
That is the biggest challenge that Democrats face in taking down the Tea Party ... there is no official leadership, just three core ideas. There are politicians who have tried to herd demographics of the tea party for their political advantage, but they are not figureheads. It drives liberal leadership nuts that the Tea Party is truly a large grass roots organization so their strategy is to label everyone as a white, dumb, and racist. Perhaps a better goal would have been to reach out and try to appeal to the group in the early stages. Too late now.
In regards to fiscal responsibility, that to do with more responsible spending and budgeting (versus generating more money via the common citizen to cover irresponsible spending and budgeting). The Tea Party does support giving billionaires tax breaks. It also supports giving the middle class and poor tax breaks as well.
Also, abortion, gay rights, and other social issues are not on the true Tea Party agenda.
link to the wisconsin story? I would be interested to read that

Well no... that's just what has become clearly obvious from watching them.
Ok, but I don't want to "take down" anyone. That's more of a conservative idea... the "we win/you lose" scenario. Liberals are more a "let's find a solution that works for everyone" slant.
Grass Roots? Please. they're mostly just sheep being lead by phony dummy groups created by corporations and billionaires. That's the real problem. People think this is "moms and dads and concerned citizens" but all those mega rallies in the center of DC... who do you think foots the bill for that?
I have seen little evidence of that.
Really? So how come all those Tea Party-supported candidates didn't really do much about cutting spending but instead went right for Planned Parenthood, made it illegal to say "gay" in schools and fought anti-bullying programs as a top priority?
