MSG I converted me and I now have a new band to add to my shortlist of faves. No other music is sounding good to me right now!

i envy you. sometimes i wish i'd never heard this band before, and could re-discover them for the first time. having followed them religiously for the last 15 years or so, it has been a great ride, but we have come to expect the best from them, which they truly are.

  • Maybe this is kind of funny, but I'm actually holding off on buying No Code and biurnal because 1) I can't stop listening to Yield anyway and 2) this process of digging into their back catalogue is so fun, and I wanna make it last. Nerd alert!

    Welcome to the club!!!!!!
    Conversations getting dull
There's a constant ringing in my ears
Sense of humor's void and numb
    And I'm bored to tears.......
  • Yep, all I had heard before the show on 6-24 was the first 3 albums, loved them obviously but didn't know there was so much more to this band than that. Although I should have paid more attention when they picked Sleater Kinney (my all time #1 fave - moment of silence please) to open for them...

Once I finish digesting Yield, Lost Dogs, and the live Gorge that should be on its way to me now, I will buy No Code and then come rave about it on this board like I've discovered some fantastic secret! Also saw Into the Wild a couple months ago, was afraid because I loved the book so much and didn't want it spoiled for me...but it was great, and I thought Eddie did a really beautiful job with the soundtrack.

Take your time with the albums... it's better to let them soak in before moving on to another.
    Stone Gossard...riffmeister extraordinaire!

I was converted 2 years ago in camden. Now nearly everything I listen to is pearl jam. Whats funny is, I bought all of their albums within a few months BEFORE I saw them in camden. I was really excited to see them and I was really getting into their music, even binaural and riot act. I bet you''ll be listening to PJ for years now. Its the type of band thats almost impossible to grow tired of.

Welcome my friend. I agree with enjoying 1 album at a time. Once you have done that the fun really starts with bootlegs. You have a long wonderful road ahead. Enjoy.
Many many wonderful shows, since day one.

Don't be afraid to digest the albums quickly because another beast lies in the very near future. Trying to obtain every show that you like that this band has played. I saw a thread that says they're approaching 800. I've probably got 200-250 of them, which is more than enough for me. I guess 366 would be the ideal number so you could listen to a different show every day each year and have leap year covered. Believe me there are plenty that have at least 80% of these 800. I love the albums, but the real joy for me of this band is putting together setlists of 25-30 random live songs. Honestly, that's why I'm never disappointed with a live show I see. Sure I want to see a song performed in person, but this band makes ALL their music soooo accessible, that at the very least I can hear the shit. I know what they fucking look like whilst playing.

Welcome to the cult, and if you ever need any song, show, etc, just throw out a request. Some kind soul will surely help you out, after all, we're all about spreadin' the Jam.

Just do us all a favor and don't make a thread complaining when you don't get front row fanclub tickets.

I highly recommend the Gorge CDs. They are precious. I have them on heavy rotation. I didn't have a good appreciation of the band until I moved on to the boots.

Thumbs down for complainers. I said this in another thread, but my turn for front row will come in 15 years - the geriatric tour for me and the band both! Here's hoping...
  • Good for you! I saw them first in 2003 in Albany and couldn't have been more amazed and elated. Every time I see them I realize I must see them again. And I converted my coworker too-he just saw them and now has his Vs. on heavy rotation.

Im surprised recommending mansfield 03 or penn state 03 was not mentioned. Those boots are always recommended to new fans. You can pick any of them up at bestbuy, they come in a thin cardboard sleeve.

Looked for these on a random Best Buy stop the other day, they didn't have them but I just ordered on Amazon. Thanks for the recommendation! :)

Big fan when I first heard Ten , then vs. , then Vitalogy. Started to lose track of PJ after that, stayed a casual fan though. Never quite pulled the trigger on going to see them live, but in June when I heard they were coming to MSG I went to see them for the first time. Awesome show, I loved it. I didnt know every song , but the musicianship was so good I loved every minute of the show and especially the songs I did know. Once wasnt enough for me so I went to Beacon show. What a special night , it was awesome. I felt a bit guilty not being hard core , but it was great.

So now going back and restocking some of the old cd's I had and adding some new ones.

I have a short list of bands I love and go to see in concert, Pearl Jam is now on the list. I cant wait to see them again.

Hm I can try to do this for you but living in NYC, I got no wheels, haven't been on a roadtrip in a couple years! And don't know when my next one will be, so can't promise anything...maybe it's a good subway album? :)
